As the number of arteriosclerotic diseases continues to increase, much improvement is still needed with treatments for cardiovascular diseases. This is mainly due to the limitations of currently existing treatment options, including the limited number of donor organs available or the long-term durability of the artificial organs. Therefore, tissue engineering has attracted significant attention as a tissue regeneration therapy in this area.

Objective: Adolescents with congenital heart disease (CHD) are exposed to disease-related stressors and have elevated risk for cardiovascular and cognitive complications that are exacerbated by e-cigarettes and marijuana. The aims of this cross-sectional study are to: (1) identify the association between perceived global and disease-related stress and susceptibility to e-cigarettes and marijuana, (2) determine if the association between stress and susceptibility differs by gender, and (3) explore the association between stress and ever use of e-cigarettes and marijuana among adolescents with CHD.
Methods: Adolescents with CHD (N = 98; aged 12-18 years) completed self-report measures of susceptibility to/ever use of e-cigarettes and marijuana and global and disease-related stress.

Purpose: Aortic dilation and valvar regurgitation can develop in transposition of the great arteries (TGA) after the arterial switch operation (ASO). Variation in aortic root rotational position affects flow dynamics in patients without congenital heart disease. The aim of this study was to assess neo-aortic root (neo-AoR) rotational position and its association with neo-AoR dilation, ascending aorta (AAo) dilation, and neo-aortic valvar regurgitation in TGA following ASO.

Severe coronary artery calcification is one of the greatest challenges in attaining success in percutaneous coronary intervention, limiting acute and long-term results. In many cases, plaque preparation is a critical prerequisite for delivery of devices across calcific stenoses and also to achieve adequate luminal dimensions. Recent advances in intracoronary imaging and adjunctive technologies now allow the operator to select the most appropriate strategy in each individual case.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the impact of angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) and angiotensin II type 1 receptor blockers (ARB) on 3-year clinical outcomes in elderly (≥ 65) acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients without a history of hypertension who underwent successful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents (DES).
Methods: A total of 13,104 AMI patients who were registered in the Korea AMI registry (KAMIR)-National Institutes of Health (NIH) were included in the study. The primary endpoint was 3-year major adverse cardiac events (MACE), which was defined as the composite of all-cause death, recurrent myocardial infarction (MI), and any repeat revascularization.

Owing to the paucity of information on the clinical outcomes in female patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in relation to the comorbid disease burden, we explored the differences in their clinical outcomes and identified predictive indicators. A total of 3,419 female AMI patients were stratified into two groups: Group A (those with zero or one comorbid diseases) (n=1,983) and Group B (those with two to five comorbid diseases) (n=1,436). Five comorbid conditions were considered: hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, prior coronary artery disease, and prior cerebrovascular accidents.

Background: Cardiomyopathy (CMP) is the most common cause of mortality in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), though the age of onset and clinical progression vary. We applied a novel 4D (3D + time) strain analysis method using cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging data to determine if localized strain metrics derived from 4D image analysis would be sensitive and specific for characterizing DMD CMP.
Methods: We analyzed short-axis cine CMR image stacks from 43 DMD patients (median age: 12.
