Background: The transfemoral (TF) approach drives most of the advantages of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) over surgical aortic valve replacement. Alternative accesses for TAVI are associated with higher complication rates, but are still considered in ∼5% of cases due to peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty can still allow TF-TAVI in selected cases with severe calcific PAD; however, ancillary techniques for calcium management are often needed.

Background: The subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) was developed to avoid complications related to transvenous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (TV-ICD) leads. Device safety and efficacy were demonstrated previously with atypical clinical patients or limited follow-up.
Objectives: The S-ICD PAS (Subcutaneous Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator System Post Approval Study) is a real-world, multicenter, registry of U.
Background ACURATE is a transcatheter aortic valve implantation system consisting of a self-expanding bioprosthetic valve with supra-annular leaflet position and featuring innovations to facilitate placement accuracy and reduce paravalvular regurgitation. Methods and Results The goal of the Early neo2 (Early neo2 Registry of the ACURATE neo2 TAVI Prosthesis) was to gather real-life data on safety and efficacy in a European transcatheter aortic valve implantation population treated with ACURATE . Data were collected from 554 consecutive patients treated with ACURATE at 12 European sites (mean age, 82 years; 66% women; mean European System for Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluation II, 4.

Background: Infective endocarditis (IE) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is associated with high mortality and surgery is rarely performed. Thus, to inform on preventive measures and treatment strategies, we investigated patient characteristics and microbiology of IE after TAVI.
Methods: Using Danish nationwide registries, we identified patients with IE after TAVI, IE after non-TAVI prosthetic valve (nTPV), and native valve IE.

Aims: Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is a conduction disorder characterized by an accessory electrical pathway between the atria and ventricles, which may predispose to supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and sudden cardiac death. It can be seen as an isolated finding or associated with structural heart disease. Our aims were to determine the prevalence of a WPW pattern in a large and unselected cohort of neonates and to describe the electro- and echocardiographic characteristics as well as the natural history during early childhood.

Background: Elderly patients with aortic stenosis (AS) not only have a reduced life expectancy but also a reduced quality of life (QoL). The benefits of an AS intervention may be considered a balance between a good QoL and a reasonably extended life. However, the different questionnaires being used to determine the QoL were generally not developed for the specific situation of patients with AS and come with strengths and considerable weaknesses.

Background: We aimed to determine the prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) in persons with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV; PWH) and investigate whether inflammatory markers, including interleukin 6, IL-1β, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), were associated with CAD.
Methods: From the Copenhagen Comorbidity in HIV Infection (COCOMO) study, we included virologically suppressed PWH who underwent coronary computed tomographic (CT) angiography. Any atherosclerosis was defined as >0% stenosis, and obstructive CAD as ≥50% stenosis.

VA-ECMO can be lifesaving in cardiogenic shock in children. While surgical vascular repair is the current standard of care for decannulation, it comes with notable risks. We present a series of eight patients who underwent decannulation with a collagen plug-based vascular closure device (MANTA) for the common femoral artery.

Down syndrome is a congenital disorder resulting from an extra full or partial chromosome 21, which is characterized by a spectrum of systemic developmental abnormalities, including those affecting the cardiovascular system. Here, we generated an iPSC line from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of a male adolescent with Down syndrome-associated congenital heart defects through Sendai virus-mediated transfection of 4 Yamanaka factors. This line exhibited normal morphology, expressed pluripotency markers, trisomy 21 karyotype, and could be differentiated into three germ layers.

Down syndrome is a genetic anomaly that manifests when there is a mistake during cell division, resulting in an additional chromosome 21. Down syndrome can impact cognitive capabilities and physical development, giving rise to diverse developmental disparities and an elevated likelihood of certain health issues. The iPSC line NCHi010-A was generated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of a 6-year-old female with Down syndrome and without congenital heart disease using Sendai virus reprogramming.

Background: Neonates and infants undergoing cardiac surgery tend to receive high volumes of blood products. The use of rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) has been shown to reduce the administration of blood products in adults after cardiac surgery. We sought to develop a targeted administration of blood products based on ROTEM to reduce blood product utilization during and after neonatal and infant cardiac surgery.

Background: Most risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) are modifiable, suggesting that the burden of CVD could be substantially reduced through cardiovascular screening and healthier lifestyle. People who have social support are more likely to adhere to cardiovascular prevention recommendations, but it is not clear whether the benefit of social support is equal for men and women.
Purpose: We investigated whether sex moderates the relationship between social support and adherence to cardiovascular prevention recommendations in a nationally representative sample.

Background: The burden of cardiovascular diseases is undeniable in local populations, who have high mortality rates and a young age of disease onset. A systematic review of emerging evidence and update of the Saudi Heart Association (SHA) 2019 heart failure (HF) guidelines was therefore undertaken.
Methodology: A panel of expert cardiologists reviewed recommendations of the 2019 guidelines following the Saudi Heart Association methodology for guideline recommendations.
Risk prediction scores for long-term outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) or surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) are lacking. This study aimed to develop preprocedural risk scores for 5-year clinical outcomes after TAVI or SAVR. This analysis included 1,660 patients at an intermediate surgical risk with severe aortic stenosis randomly assigned to TAVI (n = 864) or SAVR (n = 796) from the SURTAVI (Surgical Replacement and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) trial.

Background: Patients with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) and Kawasaki disease (KD) have overlapping clinical features. We compared demographics, clinical presentation, management, and outcomes of patients according to evidence of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Methods: The International Kawasaki Disease Registry (IKDR) enrolled KD and MIS-C patients from sites in North, Central, and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), also known as pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome (PIMS), is a new postinfectious illness associated with COVID-19, affecting children after SARS-CoV-2 exposure. The hallmarks of this disorder are hyperinflammation and multisystem involvement, with gastrointestinal, cardiac, mucocutaneous, and hematologic disturbances seen most commonly. Cardiovascular involvement includes cardiogenic shock, ventricular dysfunction, coronary artery abnormalities, and myocarditis.

Multicenter studies in pediatric cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) improve statistical power and generalizability. However, a structured process for identifying important research topics has not been developed. We aimed to (1) develop a list of high priority knowledge gaps, and (2) pilot the use of a wiki survey to collect a large group of responses.

We analyzed US national vital statistics data to evaluate the association between neonatal depression (AS 0-3) and 1-year mortality in CCHD. Methods and Results We performed a retrospective cohort study using 2014 to 2018 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cohort-linked birth certificate and infant death records.
