Objective: The objective of our study was to compare the ablation zones of two cooled-shaft microwave antennae-one operating at 915 MHz and one operating at 2,450 MHz-in in vivo porcine livers.

Conclusion: The 915-MHz cooled-shaft microwave antenna can lead to deeper penetration of liver tissue and can yield a significantly larger ablation zone than the 2,450-MHz cooled-shaft antenna in in vivo porcine livers. In light of the result, 915-MHz cooled-shaft microwaves may be more effective for tumor ablation, especially for large tumors.

To investigate the effects of a tissue inhibitor of the matrix metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) gene on the extracellular matrix of the abdominal aorta, models of rat abdominal aortic aneurysm were utilized and a solution of AdTIMP-2 was perfused into the abdominal aorta. The models of rat abdominal aortic aneurysm were constructed with intraluminal perfusion of the abdominal aorta with porcine pancreatic elastase, and an adenovirus solution carrying the TIMP-2 gene was transferred into the aorta by local perfusion. After 14 days, aortic wall elastin and collagen concentrations were measured with an image analysis system and fixed aortic tissues were examined by light microscopy for inflammation.

This study was aimed to explore the relationship between changes of IL-4, IL-6 levels in blood plasma of patients receiving allo-HSCT and aGVHD through dynamical detection. The IL-4 and IL-6 levels in peripheral blood were detected by protein chip and were observed for 10 weeks. The results indicated that the IL-4 level increased rapidly in 1 week after transplantation in aGVHD group and was higher than that of non aGVHD group (p<0.

[Regulation of immunity by sphingosine 1-phosphate and its G protein-coupled receptors--review].

Zhongguo Shi Yan Xue Ye Xue Za Zhi

December 2007

Department of Hematology, The General Hospital of PLA, Beijing 100853, China.

Sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) is an important biologically active lysophospholipid that transmits signals through a family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) to regulate the vital functions of several types of immune cells. The S1P GPCRs suppress both generation of specialized functional cytokines, such as IFN-gamma and IL-4, and proliferation of T-cells. Although S1P is chemotactic to T cells, B cells, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells, the major effect of S1P on the immune system is the regulation of lymphocyte recirculation and tissue distribution by S1P and S1P1.

The purpose of the present study is to test whether chemically extracted acellular nerve segments can be used to repair the sciatic nerve gap. Fifteen canines were divided into acellular nerve allografting group (ANG, six canines), autografting group (AG, six canines), and fresh nerve allografting group (FNG, three canines). The sciatic nerves on the right side of the animals were exposed, and 5-cm-long segments of the nerves were removed from the midthigh level and replaced by the three types of grafts.

Profiling of genes differentially expressed in a rat of early and later gestational ages with high-density oligonucleotide DNA array.

Wound Repair Regen

June 2007

Wound Healing and Cell Biology Laboratory, Burns Institute, The First Affiliated Hospital (304 Hospital) of the General Hospital of PLA, Trauma Center of Postgraduate Medical College, Beijing, China.

The early gestational fetus heals dermal wounds rapidly and scarlessly. This phenomenon appears to be intrinsic to fetal skin and is probably modulated by interplay of many genes. We ventured to study differences in gene expression between earlier gestational skin (EGS) and later gestational skin (LGS) with the aid of high-density oligonucleotide DNA array to explore the molecular mechanism underlying scarless healing.

To explore the clinical and pathological characteristics of hepatosplenic gammadelta T-cell lymphoma and its relationship with Epstein-Barr virus infection, the clinical features of a 9-year-old girl with hepatosplenic gammadelta T-cell lymphoma were investigated, the smears of bone marrow was stained with Wright' s stain, biopsies of bone marrow and liver specimen were embedded in plastic and sliced about 4 microm in thickness and routinely stained with HE staining, the immunohistochemical staining was used to mark the tumor cells, and EBER probes were used to detect Epstein-Barr virus RNA. The results showed that the girl presented with prolonged fever, anemia, thrombocytopenia, hepatosplenomegaly, chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection, and elevated levels of serum ferritin and lactate dehydrogenase. Bone marrow aspirate revealed the infiltration of atypical lymphocytes in the bone marrow stroma.

Potentiality of mesenchymal stem cells in regeneration of sweat glands.

J Surg Res

December 2006

Wound Healing and Cell Biology Laboratory, Burns Institute, 304th Clinical Department, The General Hospital of PLA, Trauma Center of Postgraduate Medical College, Beijing, P. R. China.

Sweat glands play some key roles in homeostasis maintenance and body temperature regulation. In full-thickness burn wounds, sweat glands cannot regenerate to form their three-dimensional organization via the division and terminal differentiation of sweat gland cells. However, the plasticity of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) may offer the hope and potentiality to regenerate sweat glands after severe burn injury.
