Article Synopsis
  • A new study investigates OS-MRSA (oxacillin-susceptible MRSA) isolate FC1102921 found in imported meat and examines its resistance characteristics.
  • The isolate has a low resistance mutation frequency of 0.036% and a mutant prevention concentration (MPC) of 16 μg/mL for oxacillin.
  • Findings suggest that the high resistance levels are not linked to a curable plasmid, indicating the need for further research into the mechanisms behind OS-MRSA emergence and transmission, particularly for the ST398-t034 strain.

We aimed to characterize the role of HMGB1 overexpression in glioma and to evaluate its use as a biomarker. We used the gene expression datasets and tissue microarray to assess the expression levels of HMGB1 among gliomas of all grades; We then assessed its correlation with the malignancy and outcome of glioma. The increase in HMGB1 mRNA and protein levels was found in glioma, but there was no correlation between HMGB1 expression and glioma malignancy, and overall survival and vital status of glioma patients.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection continues to be a major public health issue worldwide. HBsAg loss is associated with functional remission and improved long-term outcome, and is considered to be a 'functional cure' (also referred to as clinical or immunologic cure) for chronic hepatitis B. This ideal goal of therapy can be achieved using optimized combination regimens with direct-acting antivirals [eg nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs)] and immunomodulators [eg pegylated interferon alpha2a (Peg-IFN)] in selected patients with chronic hepatitis B.

May 2019

Department of Medical Genetics, College of Basic Medical Science, Third Military Medical University, Chongqing, China. Electronic address:

An increasing number of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been discovered, and dysregulation of lncRNAs plays critical roles in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. In this study, we identified a novel lncRNA LINC01980, located in both the cytoplasm and nucleus, which was significantly upregulated in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) tissues through microarray profiling. Further analysis revealed that LINC01980 overexpression was positively correlated with deeper invasion of cancer, positive lymph node metastasis, and advanced TNM stage.

Infrasound, a kind of ambient noise, can cause severe disorders to various human organs, specially to central nervous system (CNS). Our previous studies have shown that infrasound-induced CNS injury was closely related with astrocytes activation and astrocytes-mediated neuroinflammation, but the underlying molecular mechanisms are still largely unclear. FGF2/FGFR1 (Fibroblast growth factor 2/Fibroblast growth factor receptor 1) pathway was reported to play an important role in anti-inflammation in CNS disorders.
