Preventing moderately severe and severe acute pancreatitis (MSAP & SAP) is the primary goal of the management of hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis (HLAP). The main aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting serum triglyceride (TG) clearance, particularly blood glucose (GLU) levels, which could potentially help to prevent the development of MSAP & SAP. The clinical data from 177 patients with MSAP & SAP and 195 patients with mild acute pancreatitis (MAP) on days 1-6 after the onset were collected and analyzed by multivariate logistic regression to identify the factors that have an impact on the severity of HLAP, especially TG.

Background: Prognosis prediction is crucial for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment planning. While tumor hypoxia significantly impacts patient outcomes, identifying hypoxic genomic markers remains challenging. This study sought to identify hypoxic computed tomography (CT) radiomic features and create an artificial intelligence (AI) model for NSCLC through the integration of multi-modal data.

Background: Superficial temporal artery (STA)-middle cerebral artery (MCA) side-to-side microvascular anastomosis can achieve the same clinical effects as traditional STA-MCA end-to-side anastomosis in extracranial-intracranial revascularization surgery, furthermore, STA-MCA side-to-side anastomosis has the lower risk of postoperative cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome (CHS) and the potential to recruit all scalp arteries as the donor sources via self-regulation. Therefore, STA-MCA side-to-side microvascular anastomosis seems to be a revascularization strategy superior to traditional STA-MCA end-to-side anastomosis. In this study, we presented seven cases in which a STA-MCA side-to-side microvascular anastomosis was performed with a 4-5 mm long arteriotomy using the in-situ intraluminal suturing technique.

Galactose oxidase oxidation and glycosidase digestion for glycoRNA analysis.

Anal Methods

January 2025

Center for Clinical Mass Spectrometry, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Soochow University, Suzhou, 215123, China.

Ribonucleic acid (RNA), essential for protein production and immune function, undergoes glycosylation, a process that attaches glycans to RNA, generating unique glycoRNAs. These glycan-coated RNA molecules regulate immune responses and may be related to immune disorders. However, studying them is challenging due to RNA's fragility.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is commonly occurred among males worldwide and its prognosis could be influenced by biochemical recurrence (BCR). MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are functional regulators in carcinogenesis, and miR-221-3p was reported as one of the significant candidates deregulated in PCa. However, its regulatory pattern in PCa BCR across literature reports was not consistent, and the targets and mechanisms in PCa malignant transition and BCR are less explored.

Background: Artificial intelligence-driven clinical decision support systems (AI-CDSSs) are pivotal tools for doctors to improve diagnostic and treatment processes, as well as improve the efficiency and quality of health care services. However, not all doctors trust artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and many remain skeptical and unwilling to adopt these systems.

Objective: This study aimed to explore in depth the factors influencing doctors' willingness to adopt AI-CDSSs and assess the causal relationships among these factors to gain a better understanding for promoting the clinical application and widespread implementation of these systems.

The effectiveness of established biomarkers for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) within the updated framework of steatotic liver disease (SLD) remains uncertain. This cohort study examines the association of four metabolic biomarkers-retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP-4), fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF-21), adiponectin, and osteocalcin-with SLD and its subtypes: metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction with alcohol-related liver disease (MetALD)/alcohol-related liver disease (ALD). Among 3,504 Chinese participants aged 55-70, 938 (26.

Polysaccharide-based biomaterials for regenerative therapy in intervertebral disc degeneration.

Mater Today Bio

February 2025

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, The Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Suzhou Medical College, Soochow University, Suzhou, 215000, China.

Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration represents a significant cause of chronic back pain and disability, with a substantial impact on the quality of life. Conventional therapeutic modalities frequently address the symptoms rather than the underlying etiology, underscoring the necessity for regenerative therapies that restore disc function. Polysaccharide-based materials, such as hyaluronic acid, alginate, chitosan, and chondroitin sulfate, have emerged as promising candidates for intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) therapy due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and ability to mimic the native extracellular matrix (ECM) of the nucleus pulposus (NP).

Microenvironmental β-TrCP negates amino acid transport to trigger CD8 T cell exhaustion in human non-small cell lung cancer.

Cell Rep

January 2025

The Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Institutes of Biology and Medical Sciences, Suzhou Medical College of Soochow University, Soochow University, Suzhou, China; Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Infection and Immunity, Soochow University, Suzhou, China. Electronic address:

CD8 T cell exhaustion (Tex) has been widely acknowledged in human cancer, while the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate that reduced amino acid (aa) metabolism and mTOR inactivation are accountable for Tex in human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). NSCLC cells impede the T cell-intrinsic transcription of SLC7A5 and SLC38A1, disrupting aa transport and consequently leading to mTOR inactivation.

Background: Prostate cancer is the most common diagnosed tumor and the fifth cancer related death among men in Europe. Although several genetic alterations such as ERG-TMPRSS2 fusion, MYC amplification, PTEN deletion and mutations in p53 and BRCA2 genes play a key role in the pathogenesis of prostate cancer, specific gene alteration signature that could distinguish indolent from aggressive prostate cancer or may aid in patient stratification for prognosis and/or clinical management of patients with prostate cancer is still missing. Therefore, here, by a multi-omics approach we describe a prostate cancer carrying the fusion of TMPRSS2 with ERG gene and deletion of 16q chromosome arm.
