Objective: To explore the clinical and laboratory features of disseminated Penicillium marneffei infection in patients with AIDS.

Methods: The HIV antibody in serum was assayed by both enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and Western immunoblot (WIB) methods. Morphology of the pathogenic fungus in smear and biopsy specimens of bone marrow was observed.

Objective: To investigate the relationship of expression of NPM-ALK cohesive gene protein with the subtypes and prognosis of anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL).

Methods: Nineteen cases of ALCL with CD30 positivity were studied. Immunohistochemical staining was performed in paraffin sections by using polyclonal antibody anti-p80 and other monoclonal antibodies.

Objective: To detect the rearrangement of T cell receptor gamma chain gene in single H/R-S cell as an indication of early T lymphocyte differentiation.

Methods: CD30 positive H/R-S cells were isolated with micromanipulator from the frozen sections and analyzed by single-cell PCR. TCR-gamma chain gene rearrangement was detected through semi-nested PCR.

Background: To explore the clinical significance of detecting micrometastasis in lymph node, peripheral blood and bone marrow from patients with lung cancer for selection of surgical indication and the correlation among them.

Methods: The CK19 mRNA expression was detected in lymph nodes, peripheral blood and bone marrow from 29 lung cancer patients and 11 benign pulmonary lesion patients by nested RY-PCR.

Results: The sensitivity of RT-PCR technique was 10(-6) in this study.

Background: To summarize the results of extended resection of the heart, great vessels, or both in the treatment of 349 patients with locally advanced lung cancer.

Methods: From February , 1983 to December, 2000, lobectomy or pneumonectomy combined with extended resection of the heart, great vessels or both were carried out in 349 patients with locally advanced lung cancer. The operations included bronchoplastic procedures and pulmonary artery reconstruction in 205 cases, extended resection of left atrium in 75 cases, superior vena cava resection and reconstruction in 65 cases ( 3 patients had carina resection and reconstruction simultaneously) , and aorta resection and reconstruction in 4 cases respectively.

Background: To study the collateral pathways of superior vena cava syndrome ( SVCS) .

Methods: Thirty-one spiral CT phlebograms of patients with SVCS were obtained. Superior vena cava was divided into upper and lower segment by azygos arch, and the collateral pathways were divided into anterior and posterior groups according to their sites in the chest wall.

Background: To provide an HGPRT ( hypoxanthine guanidine phosphoribosyl transferase)-defective cell line for the establishment of lung cancer and dendritic cell( DC) fused vaccine.

Methods: The HGPRT-defective cell line was gradually induced by 8-AG ( 8-azaguanine) from the Lewis lung carcinoma cell line( L3-8) . Its biological characteristics and tumorigenicity were observed in vivo and in vitro.

Background: To explore the character istics of K+ channel of human non-small cell lung cancer cells ( NSCLCC) .

Methods: The characteristics of membrane potassium channels were detected in NSCLCC and benign pulmonary epithelium cells ( BEC) as control by whole cell patch clamp recording technique.

Results: (1) The transmembrane K+ current in NSCLCC was voltage-dependent.

Objective: To investigate the effect of tetrandrine (Tet) on the collagen contents of lung tissues in rats with chronic hypoxic pulmonary hypertension.

Method: Using colorimetric method after oxidized by chloramine T to determine hydroxyproline contents of lung tissues and extrapulmonary arteries, using Masson method, image pattern analysis technique and gray scale scanning to observe the changes of collagen distribution in extrapulmonary arteries and lung tissues in rats with hypoxia and the effect of treatment with Tet.

Result: Tet could remarkably reduce the mean pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance in rats with hypoxic pulmonary hypertension and could inhibit the increase of collagen contents in lung tissues and extrapulmonary arterial wall.

Objective: To investigate whether or not estrogen receptor and other sex hormone receptors are present in hemangioma tissues of children.

Methods: Fifty-two specimens of hemangiomas were taken from 52 children. The specimens were doubly stained with hematoxylin-eosin and enzyme-linking affinity immunohistochemistry.

From 1986 through 1990, among the cases of traumatic myelopathy of the cervical spine admitted in our hospital, 31 cases complicated with sagittally narrowed vertebral canal were reviewed. The stenotic cervical canal would be susceptible to spinal cord damage, such as a very minute trauma or violent hyperextension motion of the neck in the aged patients would lead to the cord damage. This type of cord injury was characterized by very little symptoms and signs in the neck, normal or only minimal bony damage seen on roentgenograms or CT scans, even though the spinal cord damage was very severe.
