MicroRNA-106a-5p (MiR-106a-5p), a small non-coding RNA, has been reported to be downregulated in astrocytoma, osteosarcoma and colorectal cancer. However, the expression levels and biological function in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) have not been studied yet. In this study, we found that the miR-106a-5p was significantly downregulated in RCC tissues and cell lines, and that overexpression of miR-106a-5p led to decreased cell metastasis ability in a xenograft model.

Patients who undergo corrective surgery for cleft lip are known to be at risk for subsequently developing secondary nasal deformity. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Y-shaped conchal cartilage transplantation on the correction of nasal deformity secondary to cleft lip and its influence on mental health. Sixteen patients with nasal deformity secondary to cleft lip admitted to The First People's Hospital Xuzhou (Xuzhou, China) from February 2014 to February 2015 were selected for the study.

Diabetic retinopathy is the most universal and severe complication of diabetes mellitus. The primary aim of the present study was to determine whether tanshinone IIA (TSA) has an inhibitory effect on the proliferation, migration and vascularization of human retinal endothelial cells (HREC) under high glucose (HG) conditions and the associated underlying mechanism. It was demonstrated that TSA exhibited a significant inhibitory effect on the proliferation, migration and vascularization of HRECs in a dose‑dependent manner, under conditions of high glucose (25 mM) medium.

Aims: This study aimed at detecting the difference of metabolic profile in mild gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) patients, and at identifying the correlation between the disturbed metabolites and insulin resistance pathway induced by the inflammation factors secreted by the placenta and adipocytes.

Materials And Methods: Blood samples were collected from 36 pregnant women diagnosed with mild GDM and 36 normal glucose-tolerant (NGT) pregnant women. Metabolic profiles were acquired by using proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-NMR) spectroscopy, and the data were analyzed by multivariate statistical data analysis.

Increasing studies have indicated that the dysregulated microRNAs (miRNAs) are associated with tumorigenesis, development and even the poor prognosis of a variety of tumors, including the non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here in our study, we found that miRNA-484 was expressed highly in NSCLC clinical tumor samples in comparison to the matched adjacent tissues. In addition, high and low expression of miRNA-484 was observed in NSCLC cell lines and lung normal cells, respectively.

Postoperative benefits of dexmedetomidine combined with flurbiprofen axetil after thyroid surgery.

The present study determined the effect of dexmedetomidine (Dex) combined with flurbiprofen axetil (FA) on analgesia, immune response, and preservation of cognitive function in patients subjected to general anesthesia. We recruited 100 patients with thyroid surgery and randomly divided them into four groups: Dex (D), FA (F), Dex combined with FA (DF), and saline control (C). The extubation and recovery times for Groups D and DF were significantly longer than for Groups F and C.

Patients And Methods: 126 patients with acute SSI in the perforating territory of the vertebral-basilar artery, admitted within 24 h after symptom onset, were recruited between August 2010 and May 2013. The patients were divided into proximal SSI and distal SSI according to the relationship between their lesion location and their parent artery.

Clinical study on anti-epileptic drug with B vitamins for the treatment of epilepsy after stroke.

Objective: To study the clinical value of anti-epileptic drugs combined with B vitamins in the treatment of epilepsy after stroke.

Patients And Methods: The study included 90 consecutive patients with epilepsy after stroke. Patients were randomly divided into groups of 30 each according to treatment: single-agent or combination anti-epileptic therapy with oxcarbazepine and sodium valproate (control group), anti-epileptic therapy with compound vitamin B tablets (observation group 1), and anti-epileptic therapy with vitamin B12 (mecobalamin) (observation group 2).

Feed-forward Control Nursing Model in Expectant Treatment of Placenta Previa.

Background: We studied the possible advantages of feed-forward control nursing model in the treatment of placenta previa.

Methods: We enrolled 60 pregnant women who were receiving treatment for expectant placenta previa between January 2010 and January 2016 and randomly divided them into the control group and the observation group with 30 cases in each group. In the control group, we offered specialist nursing which included examination, body positioning, vaginal bleeding record, psychological consultation and medication observation.

TGFBI gene mutations analysis in Chinese families with corneal dystrophies.

The aim of the present study was to examine the clinical features of three Chinese families with autosomal dominant corneal dystrophy (CD) and examine transforming growth factor‑β‑induced (TGFBI) gene mutations in these families. The TGFBI gene mutations were detected using direct sequencing of the whole coding regions and exon-intron boundaries of the TGFBI gene in the affected members from the three families with CD. The phenotypes of all affected individuals in the three families were observed via slit lamp examination.

Objective: To observe the efficacy of traditional administration, continuous pump injection, and closed-loop target controlled infusion of cisatracurium to determine the optimal method of drug administration, and to establish the individualized and rational administration of muscle relaxants in elderly patients.

Patients And Methods: A total of 150 patients who underwent spinal surgery under tracheal intubation general anesthesia in our hospital from August 2013 to April 2015 were selected. All patients were administered with general anesthesia and randomly divided into three groups: group A (n = 50) was treated under closed-loop target controlled infusion (CLTCI), group B (n = 50) was treated under muscle relaxation monitoring, and group C (n = 50) was treated under continuous pump injection.

Evaluation of CRRT effects on pyemic secondary AKI by serum cartilage glycoprotein 39 and Annexin A1.

The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) on pyemic secondary acute kidney injury (AKI) by serum cartilage glycoprotein 39 (YKL-40) and Annexin A1. From October, 2013 to October, 2015, 45 pyemic secondary AKI cases and 40 pyemic non-secondary AKI cases were selected for the present study. There were also 35 cases of physical examination volunteers.

MIP-1α and NF-κB as indicators of acute kidney injury secondary to acute lung injury in mechanically ventilated patients.

Objective: In this study the levels of macrophage inflammatory protein-1α and NF-κB were measured in patients suffering acute kidney injury secondary to acute lung injury induced by mechanical ventilation and in controls, to determine whether they are differentially expressed.

Patients And Methods: 160 patients were enrolled in our study: 40 had acute kidney injury secondary to acute lung injury induced by mechanical ventilation (group A), 40 had acute lung injury induced by mechanical ventilation, but no secondary acute kidney injury (group B), 40 were treated with mechanical ventilation but suffered no complications (group C), and 40 were treated with a conventional nasal catheter or oxygen mask inhalation (group D). The seric levels of MIP-1α, NF-κB and hs-CRP were compared amongst the groups at time points of 6, 12, 24, and 72 hours and at 7 days after the start of the respiratory treatment.

Epilepsy is a chronic brain dysfunction syndrome and nervous system disease whose pathogenesis remains to be determined. The aim of the present study was to analyze the correlation between secondary thrombosis and the serum levels of folate and vitamin B12 in epileptic patients, as well as to determine whether the supplementation of folate and vitamin B12 was associated with a decreased incidence of thrombosis, and provide the basis for novel clinical treatment. A total of 37 patients, diagnosed as epileptic with secondary thrombosis between April 2012 and April 2014, were included in the treatment group.

Equilibrium of Treg/Th17 cells of peripheral blood in syphilitic patients with sero-resistance.

The aim of the present study was to examine changes of cellular homeostasis in regulatory T (Treg) and T helper 17 (Th17) cells by detecting the proportion of Treg and Th17 cells of peripheral blood, as well as the expression of specific transcription factors in these two types of cells, in syphilitic patients with sero-resistance. A total of 49 subjects were enrolled in the study and divided into two groups, comprising 26 cases of sero-resistant syphilitic patients in the experimental group, and 23 cases of healthy donors in the normal control group. Flow cytometry was applied to examine the proportion of Treg and Th17 cells, as well as the quantitative expression of relevant specific transcription factors [forkhead box P3 (Foxp3) and retinoic acid-related orphan receptor γt (ROR-γt)] in the two groups.
