Objective: To investigate the incidence and risk factors of blood transfusion during hospitalization in patients receiving hip arthroplasty.

Methods: Clinical data of 347 hip arthroplasty patients admitted between January and January 2019 and December 2021. Patients were divided into 184 patients in the transfusion group and 164 patients in the nontransfusion group according to whether they received blood transfusion during hospitalization.

Chronic lumbar and back pain caused by degenerative vertebral endplates presents a challenging issue for patients and clinicians. As a new minimally invasive spinal treatment method, radiofrequency ablation of vertebral basal nerve in bone can denature the corresponding vertebral basal nerve through radiofrequency ablation of degenerative vertebral endplate. It blocks the nociceptive signal transmission of the vertebral base nerve, thereby alleviating the symptoms of low back pain caused by the degenerative vertebral endplate.

YTHDC1 delays cellular senescence and pulmonary fibrosis by activating ATR in an m6A-independent manner.

Accumulation of DNA damage in the lung induces cellular senescence and promotes age-related diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Hence, understanding the mechanistic regulation of DNA damage repair is important for anti-aging therapies and disease control. Here, we identified an m6A-independent role of the RNA-binding protein YTHDC1 in counteracting stress-induced pulmonary senescence and fibrosis.

Importance: DL-3-n-butylphthalide (NBP) is a drug for treating acute ischemic stroke and may play a neuroprotective role by acting on multiple active targets. The efficacy of NBP in patients with acute ischemic stroke receiving reperfusion therapy remains unknown.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of NBP in patients with acute ischemic stroke receiving reperfusion therapy of intravenous thrombolysis and/or endovascular treatment.

Accumulating evidence indicates a correlation between circadian dysfunction and genomic instability. However, whether the circadian machinery directly regulates DNA damage repair, especially in double-strand breaks (DSBs), remains poorly understood. Here, we report that in response to DSBs, BMAL1 is activated by ATM-mediated phosphorylation at S183.

METTL3-mediated m6A modification stabilizes TERRA and maintains telomere stability.

Nucleic Acids Res

MOE Key Laboratory of Gene Function and Regulation, State Key Laboratory of Biocontrol, School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510006, China.

Telomeric repeat-containing RNA (TERRA) is a type of long non-coding RNA transcribed from telomeres, and it forms R-loops by invasion into telomeric DNA. Since either an excessive or inadequate number of R-loops leads to telomere instability, the TERRA levels need to be delicately modulated. In this study, we found that m6A modification presents on the subtelomeric regions of TERRA and stabilizes it, and the loss of METTL3 impacts telomere stability.

Background: Previous studies have provided conflicting results regarding whether the serum ghrelin concentration can reflect the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP). The present study examined the correlation between the serum ghrelin concentration and AP severity in animal models and investigated whether altered ghrelin expression in pancreatic acinar cells influences IKKβ/NF-κB signaling and pro-inflammatory cytokine production.

Methods: Mild or severe AP was induced in rats by intraperitoneal injection of cerulein or retrograde cholangiopancreatic duct injection of sodium taurocholate, respectively.

Background: This aim of this study was to explore a novel method that can be used to isolate and culture rat pancreatic ductal epithelial cells.

Methods: Retrograde injection of indigo carmine solution into the bile duct of rats revealed the main pancreatic duct, which was isolated using the naked eye (without using a stereomicroscope). The main pancreatic duct was sequentially digested with three enzymes, and the digested cells were cultured in RPMI-1640 medium containing 10-15% fetal bovine serum.

To assess DNA methylation sites as well as gene expression related to ischemic stroke (IS) and comprehensively reveal their correlation and possible pathological mechanisms, we implemented (1) genome-wide DNA methylation profiling from the GEO repository related to IS with and without symptoms; (2) identification of differentially methylation positions (DMPs) and genes (DMGs), functional enrichment analysis along with DMG regulatory network construction; (3) validation tests of 2 differential methylation positions of interest as well as analogous gene expression in other datasets and in IS patients and controls; and (4) correlation analysis of DNA methylation and mRNA expression data. In total, 870 DMPs were physically located within 693 DMGs. After disease ontology (DO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway, gene ontology (GO), protein-protein interaction (PPI) network construction as well as module analysis, HLA-DRB1 and HLA-DQB1 were identified.

Dynamic contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) has been used previously to evaluate severe acute pancreatitis (SAP)-associated complications. However, optimal time points of CECT have not yet been established. The present study aimed to determine optimal timings for CECT to be undertaken for patients with SAP.

Osteogenesis is a complex process which relies on the coordination of signals and transcription factors. Recent evidence indicates that microRNAs (miRNAs) act as important post-transcriptional regulators in a large number of biological processes including osteoblast differentiation. In this study, we investigated the expression and biological effect of miR-125a-3p during osteogenic differentiation of human adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells (hADSCs).

The present study examined whether exendin‑4 (Ex4) can improve the endothelial dysfunction of apolipoprotein E knockout (APOE‑KO) mice fed a high‑cholesterol diet and the potential mechanism by which it acts. Genetically wild‑type (WT) C57BL/6 mice and APOE‑KO mice of C57BL/6 background, were each randomly assigned to receive either Ex4 treatment (Ex4‑treated, for 8 weeks) or not (control). The 4 groups were fed the same high‑cholesterol diet for 8 weeks.

Although an increasing number of patients accept dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) following implantation of drug-eluting stents (DES) for coronary heart disease (CHD), the proportion of patients with DAPT who subsequently develop gastrointestinal hemorrhage continues to increase. To ensure the clinical outcomes from DES, it is important to formulate a novel continued antiplatelet therapy for patients who were administered DAPT and subsequently develop gastrointestinal hemorrhage following DES implantation. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of continued aspirin, clopidogrel or DAPT use on the incidence of clinical adverse events and gastrointestinal rebleeding in patients who received DAPT and subsequently developed gastrointestinal hemorrhage following implantation of DES for CHD.
