Background And Purpose: Differentiating Parkinson's Disease (PD) from Atypical Parkinsonism Syndrome (APS), including Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), is challenging, and there is no gold standard. Integrating quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) and morphometry can help differentiate PD from APS and improve the internal diagnosis of APS.

Materials And Methods: In this retrospective study, we enrolled 55 patients with PD, 17 with MSA-parkinsonian type (MSA-P), 15 with MSA-cerebellar type (MSA-C), and 14 with PSP.

Article Synopsis
  • - Drug-related problems (DRPs) in critically ill patients can lead to higher mortality rates, but the involvement of critical care pharmacists (CCPs) in medical teams improves healthcare quality and reduces these risks.
  • - Research shows that CCPs can effectively evaluate medication orders, minimize adverse drug events, and decrease hospital stays, proving to be more efficient in medication reconciliation than physicians.
  • - Despite these advantages, there's a lack of clear guidelines for CCP roles; establishing a structured workflow is needed for better integration into patient care, with proactive involvement in all phases of medication management, from pre-round evaluations to post-ICU follow-up.

Anthocyanins in Murray can be degraded into metabolites by intestinal microorganisms and have a wide range of biological functions. However, there are limited studies on the effect of anthocyanins on the intestinal flora structure in patients with cerebral infarction. To explore the new probiotic effects of ACN, the gut microbiota present in fecal samples obtained from healthy volunteers and patients with acute cerebral infarction underwent in vitro fermentation analysis.

At the end of 2022, the adjustment of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic control policy in China resulted in a large-scale increase in public infection. To compare the fertility parameters of male patients before and after the adjustments of the COVID-19 pandemic control policy in China, we collected data on patients' medical histories and laboratory examinations on their first visits between June 2022 and March 2023 in five different hospitals. Data were divided into five groups according to the timeline of the policy adjustment.

Background: Schwannomas are uncommon tumors originating from Schwann cells, forming the neural sheath. They account for approximately 2%-6% of all mesenchymal tumors and are most commonly identified in peripheral nerve trunks, with rarity in the gastrointestinal tract. Among gastrointestinal locations, the stomach harbors the majority of nerve sheath tumors, while such occurrences in the sigmoid colon are exceptionally infrequent.

Department of Emergency Trauma Surgery, the First People's Hospital of Jining, Jining Shandong, 272000, P. R. China.

Objective: To summarize the research progress on the mechanism related to traumatic brain injury (TBI) to promote fracture healing, and to provide theoretical basis for clinical treatment of fracture non-union.

Methods: The research literature on TBI to promote fracture healing at home and abroad was reviewed, the role of TBI in fracture healing was summarized from three aspects of nerves, body fluids, and immunity, to explore new ideas for the treatment of fracture non-union.

Results: Numerous studies have shown that fracture healing is faster in patients with fracture combined with TBI than in patients with simple fracture.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at patients with severe strokes who were treated successfully but still had bad outcomes or deaths in the following 90 days.
  • It involved 207 people from a trial in China and found that 38% had poor results, while 12.6% died after treatment.
  • Key risk factors for dying or having bad outcomes included being older than 67, having specific types of artery blockage, and having a high initial stroke severity score.

Background: Statistically, Anterior communicating aneurysm (ACoA) accounts for 30 to 35% of intracranial aneurysms. ACoA, once ruptured, will have an acute onset and cause severe neurological dysfunction and even death. Therefore, clinical analysis of risk factors related to ACoA and the establishment of prediction model are the benefits to the primary prevention of ACoA.

Background: The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of paclitaxel on the apoptosis of esophageal cancer cells in relation to MUC20.

Methods: RT-qPCR analysis, a CCK-8 assay, western blotting, and flow cytometry were used to analyze the anticancer effects of paclitaxel treatment or OE-MUC20 in vitro and in vivo.

Results: The in vitro results showed that paclitaxel significantly induced MUC20 upregulation and that paclitaxel treatment or OE-MUC20 significantly decreased esophageal cancer cell viability and increased mTOR signaling activation and apoptosis.

Obeticholic acid (OCA), a farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist, has been demonstrated to ameliorate the histopathological characteristics of liver damage. Nonetheless, the systemic safety profile of OCA with regard to reproduction and development remains poorly understood. In the present study, we conducted a dose-response experiment by administering OCA at doses of 5 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg, or 20 mg/kg through tube feeding to investigate its effect on reproductive development and fertilization rate in both male and female mice.

Background: The current understanding of untreated ruptured intracranial aneurysms has been limited by study design and inaccurate patient data. Multicenter clinical registry studies on untreated ruptured intracranial aneurysms in Chinese patients are scarce. We aimed to calculate the mortality of patients with untreated ruptured intracranial aneurysms in a current, clearly defined hospital cohort in China, with emphasis on mortality predictors over a 2-year period.

Eur Stroke J

June 2023

Stroke Center & Department of Neurology, The First Affiliated Hospital of USTC, Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, Anhui, China.

Background: Current studies on the role of sex in the prognosis of acute vertebrobasilar artery occlusion (VBAO) are limited. We aimed to explore whether there are sex differences on outcomes in patients treated with endovascular therapy (EVT) for VBAO.

Methods: Patients from December 2015 to December 2018 with acute VBAO within 24 h of the estimated occlusion time in 21 stroke centers in China were retrospectively analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of the Neurohawk retriever and the Solitaire FR for treating acute ischemic stroke caused by large vessel occlusion, using a randomized controlled trial with a focus on non-inferiority.
  • A total of 232 patients participated, showing a successful reperfusion rate of 88.70% for Neurohawk and 90.60% for Solitaire, with no significant differences in safety outcomes or overall effectiveness between the two devices.
  • Subgroup analyses indicated that both devices performed similarly in terms of outcomes, regardless of whether the strokes were caused by intracranial atherosclerotic disease or other factors, with comparable rates of all-cause mortality within 90 days.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

October 2022

Stroke Center & Department of Neurology, the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China.

Objective: Endovascular treatment (EVT) is, to date, the most promising treatment of vertebrobasilar artery occlusion (VBAO). The study aimed to determine the influence of perioperative glucose levels on clinical outcomes in patients with acute VBAO treated with EVT.

Methods: We retrospectively collected consecutive VBAO patients received EVT in 21 stroke centers in China.

Background: Whether endovascular treatment (EVT) is safe and effective for vertebrobasilar artery occlusion (VBAO) is yet incompletely understood. Two RCTs, the endovascular treatment standard medical treatment for vertebrobasilar artery occlusion (BEST) trail and the Basilar Artery International Cooperation Study (BASICS), concentrating on this field were recently reported.

Objective: We use real-world registry data of VBAO to compare the outcome of EVT inside and outside the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the BEST and BASICS study to testify the feasibility of the selection paradigms of VBAO in these trials.
