Objective: To explore the effectiveness of a nutritional intervention in rescuers who screened positive for depression.

Methods: A randomized controlled trial design was employed. From June to August, 2022, 4,460 rescuers were screened using the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and 1,615 positive cases were identified.

Background: Sirolimus is increasingly utilized in treating diseases associated with mTOR pathway overactivation. Despite its potential, the lack of evidence regarding its long-term safety across all age groups, particularly in pediatric patients, has limited its further application. This study aims to assess the long-term safety of sirolimus, with a specific focus on its impact on growth patterns in pediatric patients.

Background: It is unclear whether patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) are allowed variable low levels of alcohol. Methods: Alcohol consumption was assessed in 713 patients with steatotic liver disease (SLD) who underwent liver biopsy.

Methods: We used K-means cluster analysis in 6369 newly diagnosed diabetic patients from eight centers of the REACTION (Risk Evaluation of cAncers in Chinese diabeTic Individuals) study.

Longitudinal Stent Deformation at the Proximal Segment of the Left Main Coronary Artery Caused by a Stuck OCT Catheter: Case Report and Review of Literature.

It has been rarely reported that a stuck optical coherence tomography (OCT) catheter can lead to longitudinal stent deformation (LSD). This complication can result in incomplete stent apposition and dissection after stent implantation. In this study, we present a case where a bailout stent was implanted in the distal segment of the left anterior descending artery (LAD) after longitudinal stent deformation caused by a stuck OCT catheter.

Application of 3-dimensional visualization and image fusion technology in liver cancer with portal vein tumor thrombus surgery.

Liver cancer with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) is a frequent finding and is related to poor prognosis. Surgical resection provides a more promising prognosis in selected patients. The purpose of this study was to explore the application of 3D (3-dimensional) visualization and image fusion technology in liver cancer with PVTT surgery.

Beyond surgery: Overcoming postoperative depression in cancer patients.

Depression is a common occurrence among cancer patients, and it significantly impacts their clinical outcomes and quality of life, with a high incidence during anti-tumor treatment or after surgery. The association between surgery and depression is the result of the interaction of various factors, including physiological, psychological, and social factors, all of which are intertwined and make patients susceptible to depression after surgical treatment. Postoperative depression has a significant negative impact on many aspects of cancer patients, and it requires timely identification and intervention to improve the overall outcome.

A novel polyp retrieval bag reduces the polyp fragmentation rate in colon polypectomy: a single-blind randomized controlled study.

Methods: Patients with a 5-15 mm colon polyp were recruited and randomized into two groups at a 1:1 ratio.

A novel lumen-apposing metal stent for endoscopic drainage of symptomatic pancreatic fluid collections: a retrospective study.

Background And Objectives: Previous studies showed that lumen-apposing metal stent (LAMS) provides a feasible route to perform direct endoscopic necrosectomy. However, the high risk of bleeding and migration induced by the placement of LAMS attracted attention. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a novel LAMS.

Although electromyography has been extensively used in the diagnosis of neurological diseases, there is no comprehensive understanding of the electromyography manifestations of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula. Given the widespread use of electromyography in the diagnosis of neurological conditions, it is worthwhile to holistically analyse the electromyography findings of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula to differentiate it from neurological diseases that share similar clinical manifestations. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether electromyography can distinguish spinal dural arteriovenous fistula from longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis.

Composite patch with negative Poisson's ratio mimicking cardiac mechanical properties: Design, experiment and simulation.

Developing patches that effectively merge intrinsic deformation characteristics of cardiac with superior tunable mechanical properties remains a crucial biomedical pursuit. Currently used traditional block-shaped or mesh patches, typically incorporating a positive Poisson's ratio, often fall short of matching the deformation characteristics of cardiac tissue satisfactorily, thus often diminishing their repairing capability. By introducing auxeticity into the cardiac patches, this study is trying to present a beneficial approach to address these shortcomings of the traditional patches.

Evaluafion of the efficacy of wall shear stress in carotid artery stenting.

Objective: To characterize the value of carotid wall shear stress (WSS) following carotid artery stenting (CAS) in patients with carotid stenosis.

Methods: Twenty-eight patients with carotid stenosis treated with CAS between March 2021 to May 2022 in the eighth medical center of the PLA General Hospital were selected for our study. Carotid ultrasound was performed before the operation, one week post-operation, and six months post-operation.

Type 3 resistant starch from Canna edulis reduce lipid levels in patients with mild hyperlipidemia through altering gut microbiome: A double- blind randomized controlled trial.

Type 3 resistant starch from Canna edulis (Ce-RS3) is an insoluble dietary fiber which could improve blood lipids in animals, but clinically robust evidence is still lacking. We performed a double-blind randomized controlled trial to assess the effects of Ce-RS3 on lipids in mild hyperlipidemia. One hundred and fifteen patients were included followed the recruitment criteria, and were randomly allocated to receive Ce-RS3 or placebo (native starch from Canna edulis) for 12 weeks (20 g/day).

Efficacy of Lenvatinib in Combination With PD-1 Monoclonal Antibody and Interventional Treatment for Intermediate-Stage Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Impact on Serum Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor and Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 Levels: A Retrospective Study.

To scrutinize the therapeutic efficiency and safety profile of lenvatinib, accompanied by the programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) monoclonal antibody, and interventional treatment in managing intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma. Retrospective analysis was performed on clinical data from 93 patients suffering from intermediate to advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, treated at our institution from May 2018 to April 2020. Patients were divided based on the therapeutic regimen: 43 cases constituted the control group receiving lenvatinib plus transhepatic artery chemoembolization (TACE), while the remaining 50 cases in the study group were managed with lenvatinib, PD-1 monoclonal antibody, and TACE.

Comparison of Novel 3D-printed Stepped Porous Metal Cones and Metaphyseal Sleeves for Reconstruction of Severe Knee Bone Defects: Short-term Clinical Outcomes.

Objective: Both porous metal cones and metaphyseal sleeves are excellent implants for reconstructing severe bone defects in the knee joint, but they both exhibit design limitations. The porous metal cone, especially, has significant room for improvement in its shape design. The existing porous metal cones often feature a conical external surface with a relatively small taper, potentially compromising both rotational and axial stability.

Establishment and validation of an artificial intelligence web application for predicting postoperative in-hospital mortality in patients with hip fracture: a national cohort study of 52 707 cases.

Background: In-hospital mortality following hip fractures is a significant concern, and accurate prediction of this outcome is crucial for appropriate clinical management. Nonetheless, there is a lack of effective prediction tools in clinical practice. By utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning techniques, this study aims to develop a predictive model that can assist clinicians in identifying geriatric hip fracture patients at a higher risk of in-hospital mortality.

Expert consensus on the clinical application of immunotherapy in breast cancer: 2024.

Background: Significant progress has been made in immunotherapy of breast cancer (BC) with the approval of multiple immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), particularly in early and metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) settings. Most guidelines have recommended immune therapy as the important approach in BC, yet several critical aspects still require further clarification, including proper patient selection, treatment duration, optimized chemotherapy partner, predictive biomarkers, and specific considerations for Chinese patients.

Methods: (I) Establishment of expert group: the expert group consists of 32 experts from departments such as medical oncology, breast surgery, and pathology; (II) literature search: mainly conducted in English databases (such as PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library) and Chinese databases (such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Biology Medicine disc, and Wanfang Database), with a search cutoff date of April 23, 2024; (III) assessment of evidence quality and recommendation strength: evidence quality and recommendation opinions are graded based on the evidence category and recommendation level of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) guidelines; (IV) consensus formulation: on the March 2, 2024, through online consensus meeting, the consensus content is thoroughly discussed, and opinions from all experts are solicited.

Pelvic packing or endovascular interventions: Which should be given priority in managing hemodynamically unstable pelvic fractures? A systematic review and a meta-analysis.

Background: Pelvic fractures in trauma patients can be associated with substantial massive hemorrhage. Hemostasis interventions mainly consist of pelvic packing (PP) and endovascular intervention (EI), such as angiography-embolization (AE) and resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA). Whether PP or EI should be prioritized for the management of hemodynamic unstable patients with pelvic fractures remains under debate.

[Feasibility Analysis of Establishing Combat Readiness Blood Bank Based on Low Titer Group O Whole Blood and Group A Plasma].

Objective: To explore the feasibility of establishing combat readiness blood bank with low titer group O whole blood and group A plasma.

Methods: The Galileo automatic blood analyzer was used to detect the titers of IgM anti-A and anti-B antibodies in the samples of group O blood donors and IgM anti-B titer in the samples of group A blood donors. Group O blood donors with antibody titers below 128 were selected and included in the mobile blood bank for combat readiness, group A plasma with anti-B titer lower than 128 and group O whole blood with antibody titers below 128 were included in the combat readiness entity blood bank.
