Background: It is largely unidentified concerning the underlying genetic causes responsible for triple-negative breast cancers (TNBC), with unpredictable disease recurrence. This study aimed to examine the role of ZNF703 (Zinc finger 703) in the malignant behaviors of TNBC and its role in predicting disease-free survival (DFS).

Methods: After downregulation of ZNF703 with short interfering RNA (siRNA), we examined the proliferation of TNBC cell line MDA-MB-231 by sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay, the invasion of cells by a transwell invasion model, and the migration of cells by the monolayer wound-healing experiment.

Article Synopsis
  • Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is a common kidney condition in children that can lead to severe complications like acute kidney injury (AKI), prompting the need for early identification of high-risk patients.
  • A comprehensive analysis of 11 studies showed that AKI occurs in about 29% of children with NS, with several significant risk factors like age of onset, gender, serum albumin levels, steroid response, and existing conditions such as infections and hypertension.
  • The study utilized traditional and network meta-analyses to evaluate these risk factors, emphasizing the importance of recognizing these associations to improve management and outcomes for children with NS.

Anal Methods

January 2025

Department of Colorectal Surgery, College of Clinical Medicine for Oncology, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou, Fujian, China.

MicroRNA (miRNA) is a promising biomarker for the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. To enable sensitive and reliable miRNA detection, we have developed a one-pot isothermal CRISPR/Dx detection system by combining rolling circle amplification (RCA) and CRISPR/Cas12a. RCA and CRISPR/Cas12a reactions are carried out in a single closed tube, bypassing the transferring step.

Angiopoietin-like protein 3 (ANGPTL3) is key in ovarian cancer (OC) cell growth and metastasis, notably by enhancing natural killer cells' capacity for inducing cell toxicity and apoptosis. However, its role in influencing chemotherapy resistance in OC remains ambiguous. In this study, we discovered a correlation between reduced ANGPTL3 levels and a less favorable outcome in OC patients using the Kaplan-Meier Plotter database.

Purpose: Uterine fibroids (UF) are the most frequent tumors in ladies and can pose an enormous threat to complications, such as miscarriage. The accuracy of prognosis may also be affected by way of doctor inexperience and fatigue, underscoring the want for automatic classification fashions that can analyze UF from a giant wide variety of images.

Methods: A hybrid model has been proposed that combines the MobileNetV2 community and deep convolutional generative adversarial networks (DCGAN) into useful resources for medical practitioners in figuring out UF and evaluating its characteristics.

Background: High neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is associated with poor prognosis in ischemic stroke. However, the role of NLR in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is controversial. Herein, we evaluated the value of NLR in identifying CSVD and its relationship with the common imaging markers of CSVD.

Following the exhaustion of all conventional hemodialysis access options in the upper extremities, a prosthetic arteriovenous loop was performed between the brachial artery (BA) and the external jugular vein (EJV) as a novel access option for hemodialysis in the present case report. During the procedure, a polytetrafluoroethylene graft was anastomosed to the BA and the EJV, and looped on the upper limb. The safety and reliability of BA-EJV access was evaluated by determining the complications, patency and intervention rates.

Background: Supraclavicular nodal (SCL) irradiation is commonly used for patients with high-risk breast cancer after breast surgery. The Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) and European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) breast contouring atlases delineate the medial part of the SCL region, while excluding the posterolateral part. However, recent studies have found that a substantial proportion of SCL failures are located in the posterolateral SCL region, outside of the RTOG/ESTRO-defined SCL target volumes.

Background: In addition to being secreted into the intercellular spaces by exocytosis, insulin-like growth factor binding protein 5 (IGFBP5) may also remain in the cytosol or be transported to the nucleus. Depending on the different cellular context and subcellular distribution, IGFBP5 can act as a tumor suppressor or promoter through insulin-like growth factor -dependent or -independent mechanisms. Yet, little is known about the impacts of IGFBP5 on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and its underlying mechanism.

Background: Mechanical thrombectomy is the most effective treatment for great cerebral artery embolization within a set time window. Typically, an arteriogram does not show the localization of the stent after release and whether a thrombus is captured or not. Thus, improving the visualization of a stent in interventional therapy will be helpful for clinicians.
