Objectives: Previous studies have demonstrated that the inhibition of autophagy could reduce traumatic brain injury (TBI)-induced cell injury and attenuate behavioural outcomes. Meanwhile, synaptically released zinc translocation is found in the hippocampus of rats, and excessive release of chelatable zinc from excitatory synaptic vesicles is involved in the pathophysiological processes of TBI. We speculated that the release of zinc is closely connected with autophagy and that treatment with the zinc chelator N,N,N',N'-tetrakis-(2-pyridylmethyl) ethylenediamine (TPEN) could attenuate autophagy and thus improve histologic outcomes after TBI in rats.

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a severe adverse effect that results from bone marrow or peripheral blood cells transplantation and has a high rate of mortality. About 50% of the patients are accompanied with acute Graft-versus-Host Disease (aGVHD) after bone marrow cell transplantation and need systematic treatment. It has an important clinical significance to evaluate the prevention and treatment effects of GVHD.

The present study aimed to identify the molecular basis of the arthrogryposis‑renal dysfunction‑cholestasis (ARC) syndrome, which is caused by mutations in the vacuolar protein sorting 33 homolog B (VPS33B) gene. The microarray dataset GSE83192, which contained six liver tissue samples from VPS33B knockout mice and four liver tissue samples from control mice, was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened by the Limma package in R software.

Astragaloside IV is the main active compound of Astragalus membranaceus. Astragaloside IV has strong anti-oxidative activities and protective effects against progression of peripheral neuropathy. In this study, we determined whether astragaloside IV protects retinal ganglion cells (RGC) from oxidative stress injury using the rat RGC-5 cell line.

It has been proved that hyperuricemia is associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitor, febuxostat, decreases free fatty acids-induced fat accumulation in HFDT-fed mice. Here, it is shown that febuxostat attenuates fat accumulation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in HepG2 cells.

Aspirin may exhibit antitumor activities, as it is able to inhibit cell proliferation. However, the ability of aspirin to inhibit cellular proliferation in Hep-2 cells and its underlying molecular mechanisms have been poorly determined. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether aspirin may induce cell apoptosis in the neoplastic cell line Hep-2.

Objective: The aim of the present study is to confirm the correlation between fibrinogen and the severity of cerebral white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) among nondiabetic patients with noncardiogenic acute ischemic stroke.
Patients And Methods: A cross-sectional study of 170 consecutive patients with noncardiogenic acute ischemic stroke who underwent magnetic resonance imaging and vascular imaging was conducted. WMHs were classified into periventricular hyperintensity (PVH) and deep and subcortical WMH (DSWMH) using Fazekas rating scale.

Objective: MicroRNAs have been found to be deregulated in lung cancers, which play crucial roles in tumorigenesis and progression. FBXW7 and FBXW11, two important F-box proteins of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS), can target multiple substrates for degradation, in order to regulate cell proliferation and survival in cancers. In the present study, we aimed to explore the potential role and regulating mechanism of miR-182 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Multiple myeloma (MM) is characterized by an increased incidence of thromboembolic events, particularly when treated with immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) in combination with dexamethasone. The optimal prophylactic strategy to prevent the hypercoagulable state of patients with MM is still debated. The aim of the current study was to investigate the definitive role of phosphatidylserine (PS) in supporting procoagulant activity (PCA) in patients with MM.

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of the insulin gene enhancer-binding protein, islet-1 (ISL1), on the proliferation, invasion and apoptosis of the human melanoma cell line, A375. An ISL1 overexpression lentiviral vector was constructed and transfected into the A375 cells. The proliferation of the A375 cells transfected with the ISL1 vector (termed A375/ISL1 cells) was examined by MTT assay, flow cytometry and TUNEL assay, and cell invasion was examined by Transwell assay.

Background: Accumulating literature proved that miRNAs can regulate the sensitivity of platinum and act as a promising candidate to predict the response of patients with lung adenocarcinoma to chemotherapy. However, most studies on miRNAs were restricted to in vitro experiments. This study aimed to evaluate whether miRNAs alone or in combination (miRNA signature) can act as predictive biomarkers of platinum-based chemotherapy in patients with lung adenocarcinoma.

Esophageal carcinoma is the most common type of tumor, with the incidence in China accounting for 50% of cases worldwide and the majority of patients not surviving due to tumor recurrence. According to the cancer stem cell theory, tumor development and recurrence is due to the excitation of a cancer stem cell. Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 (ALDH1) is an appropriate marker for cancer stem cells and the present study aimed at determining the function of ALDH1 in human esophageal carcinoma.

Oxidative stress participates in numerous myocardial pathophysiological processes and is considered a therapeutic target for myocardial ischemia and heart failure. Guanxintai (GXT), a traditional Chinese medicine, is commonly used to treat cardiovascular disease on account of its numerous beneficial physiological activities, such as dilating coronary arteries, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and reducing the serum lipid content. However, the antioxidative properties of GXT and potential underlying mechanisms remain to be established.
