Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) is a refractory pneumonia-causing pathogen due to the antibiotic resistance and the characteristics of persisting inside its host cell. Lysostaphin is a typical bacteriolytic enzyme for degrading bacterial cell walls via hydrolysis of pentaglycine cross-links, showing potential to combat multidrug-resistant bacteria. However, there are still grand challenges for native lysostaphin because of its poor shelf stability and limited bioavailability.

Advances in the application and research of biomaterials in promoting bone repair and regeneration through immune modulation.

With the ongoing development of osteoimmunology, increasing evidence indicates that the local immune microenvironment plays a critical role in various stages of bone formation. Consequently, modulating the immune inflammatory response triggered by biomaterials to foster a more favorable immune microenvironment for bone regeneration has emerged as a novel strategy in bone tissue engineering. This review first examines the roles of various immune cells in bone tissue injury and repair.

SIRT1/PGC-1α-mediated mitophagy participates the improvement roles of BMAL1 in podocytes injury in diabetic nephropathy: evidences from in vitro experiments.

Background: Dysfunction in podocyte mitophagy has been identified as a contributing factor to the onset and progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN), and BMAL1 plays an important role in the regulation of mitophagy. Thus, this study intended to examine the impact of BMAL1 on podocyte mitophagy in DN and elucidate its underlying mechanisms.

Materials And Methods: High D-glucose (HG)-treated MPC5 cells was used as a podocyte injury model for investigating the potential roles of BMAL1 in DN.

Background: Advanced gastric cancer (GC) exhibits a high recurrence rate and a dismal prognosis. Myocyte enhancer factor 2c (MEF2C) was found to contribute to the development of various types of cancer. Therefore, our aim is to develop a prognostic model that predicts the prognosis of GC patients and initially explore the role of MEF2C in immunotherapy for GC.

Nonacademic predictors of China medical licensing examination.

Background: National Medical Licensing Examination (NMLE) is the entrance exam for medical practice in China, and its general medical knowledge test (GMKT) evaluates abilities of medical students to comprehensively apply medical knowledge to clinical practice. This study aimed to identify nonacademic predictors of GMKT performance, which would benefit medical schools in designing appropriate strategies and techniques to facilitate the transition from medical students to qualified medical practitioners.

Methods: In 1202 medical students, we conducted the deletion-substitution-addition (DSA) and structural equation model (SEM) analyses to identify nonacademic predictors of GMKT performance from 98 candidate variables including early life events, physical conditions, psychological and personality assessments, cognitive abilities, and socioeconomic conditions.

Lactylation, a novel form of lactate-mediated protein post-translational modification (PTM), has been identified as a crucial regulator of gene expression and protein function through the modification of both histone and non-histone proteins. Liver disease is frequently characterized by a reprogramming of glucose metabolism and subsequent lactate accumulation. Recent research has implicated lactylation in a diverse array of hepatic pathologies, including liver injury, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Risk factors for the occurrence of arytenoid dislocation after major abdominal surgery: A retrospective study.

We retrospectively collected the clinical data of 50 patients with arytenoid dislocation (AD) and 200 patients without AD after abdominal surgery with general anesthetic tracheal intubation in our Hospital from January 2013 to December 2019.

Recently study has found a new form of copper-dependent death called cuproptosis, which differs from apoptosis, ferroptosis, and necrosis. The main process of cuproptosis is copper directly combined with lipid-acetylated proteins in the TCA cycle of mitochondrial response, leading to the aggregation of lipid-acetylated proteins and the loss of Fe-S cluster proteins, resulting in mitochondrial dysfunction, and eventually causing cell death. Previous studies demonstrated that an imbalance in copper homeostasis exacerbates the pathological progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) through the induction of oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and the accumulation of Aβ deposition and tau protein hyperphosphorylation.

Microbial transmission from mother to infant is important for offspring microbiome formation and health. However, it is unclear whether maternal gut inflammation (MGI) during lactation influences mother-to-infant microbial transmission and offspring microbiota and disease susceptibility. In this study, it is found that MGI during lactation altered the gut microbiota of suckling pups by shaping the maternal microbiota in the gut and mammary glands.

Organoid technology provides a transformative approach to understand human physiology and pathology, offering valuable insights for scientific research and therapeutic development. Human gastric organoids, in particular, have gained significant interest for applications in disease modeling, drug discovery, and studies of tissue regeneration and homeostasis. However, the lack of standardized quality control has limited their extensive clinical applications.

Validation Status of Electronic Sphygmomanometers in China: A National Survey.

Background: Although the information on the validation status of electronic sphygmomanometer (ES) devices in use in health care institutions and households is much more clinically relevant than that of ES models available on the market, it remains insufficient.

Methods: A national survey was conducted across all administrative regions of mainland China to assess the validation status of ESs. Fifty-eight cities were selected with stratification by municipality, provincial capital, and other cities, and health care institutions and households in each city were chosen by convenience to identify ES devices in use according to the study protocol.

Comparison of the Efficacy and Safety of PD-1/PD-L1 Inhibitors in the Treatment of Small Cell Lung Cancer.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 37 SCLC patients who received PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitors along with chemotherapy at the First Hospital of Lanzhou University between June 2018 and June 2023. Treatment effectiveness was measured by overall response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS), utilizing chi-square and T-tests, along with Kaplan-Meier and log-rank analyses.

Here we report a coacervate vesicle formed by the liquid-liquid phase separation of cholesterol-modified DNA and histones.

Clinical characteristics and prognostic analysis of patients with hydrocephalus after hypertensive cerebral haemorrhage: a retrospective case-control study.

To investigate the clinical characteristics of patients with hydrocephalus after hypertensive cerebral haemorrhage (HICH) and to analyse the relevant factors affecting the prognosis. A total of 500 patients with HICH admitted to the neurosurgery department of The First Hospital of Hebei Medical University between January 2020 and July 2024 were retrospectively analysed. The clinical data of the patients were collected, the occurrence of hydrocephalus within 3 months after discharge was followed up, and the patients were divided into the occurrence group and the non-occurrence group.
