Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Chemotherapy is one of the main treatments for cancer, but the antitumor effect of chemotherapeutic drugs is affected by the patient's immune status. The programmed cell death 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) axis is an important central checkpoint in tumor progression.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells are emerging as a novel treatment for patients with refractory/relapsed B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL), and combination with PD1 inhibitors may further improve the efficacy of anti-CD19 CAR (CD19 CAR)-T cells in the treatment of lymphomas. In a single-center study, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of a combination therapy with CD19 CAR-T cells and an anti-PD-1 antibody (nivolumab) in patients with relapsed/refractory B-NHL. A total of 11 patients with refractory/relapsed B-NHL were recruited and subsequently received CD19 CAR-T cells and nivolumab.

Combined chemo/photothermal therapy based on mesoporous silica-Au core-shell nanoparticles for hepatocellular carcinoma treatment.

Drug Dev Ind Pharm

September 2019

a Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery , Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Therapy, Tianjin's Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Tianjin , PR China.

Chemotherapy has been widely used for treatment to malignant cancer, such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Chemotherapeutic effect was not often efficient to achieve totally tumor ablation due to the poor cellular uptake and drug resistance. To address these problems, a novel nanoplatform was constructed based on nontoxic mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) for a combined chemo/photothermal therapy to enhance tumor cell accumulation and promote toxicity of chemotherapeutic drugs.

Colony Stimulating Factor 3 Mutations and Myeloid Malignancies.

Zhongguo Yi Xue Ke Xue Yuan Xue Bao

February 2016

Department of Hematology,Tianjin First Central Hospital, the First Central Clinical College of Tianjin Medical University,Tianjin 300192,China.

Granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) plays a major role in the proliferation, differentiation, and activation of neutrophil cell line hematopoietic cells. G-CSF exert the function depending on its binding to colony-stimulating factor 3 receptor (CSF3R), a homo-dimer receptor located on the surface of effector cells. Some recent studies have demonstrated that CSF3R mutations play a significant role in many diseases.

Institute of Laboratory Animal Science, Peking Union Medical College and Chinese Academy of Medical Science, Beijing, China ; Institute of Radiation Medicine, Peking Union Medical College and Chinese Academy of Medical Science, Tianjin, China ; Tianjin Key Laboratory of Radiation Medicine and Molecular Nuclear Medicine, Tianjin, China.

Background: Exposure to a moderate to high dose of ionizing radiation (IR) not only causes acute radiation syndrome but also induces long-term (LT) bone marrow (BM) injury. The latter effect of IR is primarily attributed to the induction of hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) senescence. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is the only treatment recommended to be given to radiation victims soon after IR.

Ghobrial or Malgorzata Kloc, Department of Surgery, The Methodist Hospital, 6550 Fannin Street, Houston, TX 77030.

Background: Current immunosuppressive regimens fail to avert chronic rejection (CR) of transplanted organs; however, selective targeting of actin-cytoskeletal regulators decreases T-cell motility and abrogates CR in rat model system. Administration of mutated class I major histocompatibility complex molecules or selective targeting of the RhoA pathway, which controls T-cell cytoskeletal activity, using Y27632 (a selective Rock1 inhibitor) resulted in reduced T-cell infiltration and abrogation of CR as judged from the neointimal index (13.9±19.

Objectives: Transfusional iron overload is of major concern in hematological disease. Iron-overload-related dyserythropoiesis and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-related damage to hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) function are major setbacks in treatment for such disorders. We therefore aim to investigate the effect of iron overload on hematopoiesis in the patients and explore the role of ROS in iron-induced oxidative damage in hematopoietic cells and microenvironment in vitro.

[Effect of oxidative stress on bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells].

Zhongguo Yi Xue Ke Xue Yuan Xue Bao

February 2012

Department of Hematology, Tianjin First Central Hospital, the First Central Clinical College of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin 300192, China.

Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are somatic stem cells that can differentiate into progenies of multiple lineages. They play an important role in hematopoiesis and stem cell therapy due to their multi-lineage potentials and immunomodulatory properties. Oxidative stress is a disturbed redox state caused by accumulation of reactive oxygen species.
