Electronic address:

Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) hold great promise for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases through cell-based therapies, but these therapies require extensive preclinical testing that is best done in species-in-species experiments. Pigs are a good large animal model for these tests due to the similarity of their cardiovascular system to humans. However, a lack of adequate pig iPSCs (piPSCs) that are analogous to human iPSCs has greatly limited the potential usefulness of this model system.

Article Synopsis
  • Lactate plays a crucial role in reducing neuroinflammation and neuronal injury after ischemic stroke by regulating microglial responses through HIF-1α.
  • Administration of lactate post-reperfusion results in decreased infarct size, reduced neuronal apoptosis, and improved neurological functions in mice subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO).
  • There is a notable alteration in inflammatory markers and signaling pathways, indicating that lactate not only modifies inflammation but also involves CCL7 as a key player in the neuroprotective effects against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Polybromo 1 (PBRM1) inactivating mutations are associated with clinical benefit from immune checkpoint inhibitor treatments in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). However, whether targeting PBRM1 has the potential to enhance immunotherapy efficacy in patients with wild-type PBRM1 and the upstream pathways that regulate PBRM1 protein stability remain unclear. Here, it is demonstrated that PBRM1 knockdown induced M1 macrophage polarization and infiltration, which enhanced the efficacy of anti-PD-1 immunotherapy in RCC.
