Introduction: Pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) is a complex surgery with high morbidity and mortality, often associated with complications like post-pancreatectomy hemorrhage (PPH) and postoperative pancreatic fistulas (POPF). The corticosteroids administered intraoperatively has been shown to improve postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing surgery. However, their impact on complications following PD remains controversial.

Objective: This study investigates the protective effects of lactic acid, a metabolite of , on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) induced by a high-sugar, high-fat diet (HFD) in mice, in the context of the gut-liver axis.
Methods: A NAFLD mouse model was established using a HFD, and different intervention groups were set up to study the protective effects of and its metabolite lactic acid. The groups included a control group, NAFLD group, treatment group, Glyceraldehyde-3-P (G-3P) co-treatment group, and NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) overexpression group.

Osteoporosis and vascular calcification are chronic metabolic diseases threatening the health of aging people. The incidence of osteoporosis and vascular calcification increases year by year, and has drawn much attention from the scientific and clinical area. Many studies have found that osteoporosis and vascular calcification are not completely independent, but there are close correlations between them in the pathogenesis and underlying mechanisms.

Mitochondrial dysfunction and ferroptosis play crucial roles in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) following heart transplantation. Microsomal glutathione s transferase 1 (MGST1) is widely distributed in mitochondria and has a protective effect against ferroptosis, and its involvement in myocardial I/R injury has not yet been elucidated. In this study, donor hearts from C57BL/6 male mice were subjected to 12 h of ex-vivo cold ischemia treatment and transplanted into the abdomen of recipient mice for 24 h of reperfusion.

Importance: Previous studies have demonstrated the advantages of short-term histopathological outcomes and complications associated with transanal total mesorectal excision (TME) compared with laparoscopic TME. However, the long-term oncological outcomes of transanal TME remain ambiguous. This study aims to compare 3-year disease-free survival of transanal TME with laparoscopic TME.

Background: Essential tremor (ET) is the most common neurological movement disorder with few treatments and limited therapeutic efficacy, research into noninvasive and effective treatments is critical. Abnormal cerebello-thalamo-cortical (CTC) loop function are thought to be significant pathogenic causes of ET, with the cerebellum and cortex are common targets for ET treatment. In recent years, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has been recognized as a promising brain research technique owing to its noninvasive nature and safety.

Sepsis is a life-threatening severe organ dysfunction, and the pathogenesis remains uncertain. Increasing evidence suggests that circRNAs, mRNAs, and microRNAs can interact to jointly regulate the development of sepsis. Identifying the interaction between ceRNA regulatory networks and sepsis may contribute to our deeper understanding of the pathogenesis of sepsis, bring new insights into early recognition and treatment of sepsis.

Introduction: During the first wave of the COVID-19 outbreak in China, the surge of COVID-19 cases was rapid and drastic. Emerging evidence suggests that beyond the acute phase, patients with COVID-19 may experience a wide range of postacute or long COVID sequelae. However, the mechanism and burden of COVID-19, especially long COVID, have not yet been comprehensively clarified.

Cuproptosis shows great prospects in cancer treatments. However, insufficient intracellular copper amount, low-level redox homeostasis, and hypoxic tumor microenvironment severely restrict cuproptosis efficacy. Herein, hydrazided hyaluronan-templated decorated CuO-doxorubicin (CuDT) nanodot clusters (NCs) are developed for efficient doxorubicin (DOX)-sensitized cuproptosis therapy in breast cancer via a three-pronged strategy.

Chemotherapy hardly achieves satisfactory therapeutic efficacy owing to the widely occurred adverse effects and drug tolerance, and the extensively investigated delivery systems suffer from complicated synthesis, low drug loading and less efficient tumor accumulation. Herein, we developed rod-shape nanocrystals to address challenges in the circulation stability, tumor targeting and therapeutic efficacy of camptothecin (CPT), a mainstay of treatments for various cancers. CPT nanorods (CNR) were coated with polydopamine (PDA) to achieve combinational chemo- and photothermal therapies (PTT) and then wrapped with cell membrane (CM) from homotypic tumor cells to obtain CNR@PDA-CM.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) poses a substantial global health concern, exhibits inconspicuous early symptoms, and is typically diagnosed at advanced stages leading to unfavorable outcomes. The intricate tumor microenvironment plays a crucial role in CRC development and progression, where chemokines contribute significantly. These chemokines exhibit widespread expression within tumor cells, facilitating immune cell infiltration, angiogenesis, and the establishment of distant metastases.

Cognitive dysfunction has become the second leading cause of death among the diabetic patients. In pre-diabetic stage, blood-brain barrier (BBB) injury occurs and induced the microvascular complications of diabetes, especially, diabetes-associated cognitive dysfunction (DACD). Endothelial cells are the major component of BBB, on which the increased expression of CD40 could mediate BBB dysfunction in diabetics.
