Purpose: To determine the association between dietary antioxidant sources and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Methods: In this observational study, we utilized NHANES 2017-2020 data to identify the factors associated with NAFLD in dietary antioxidant sources via weighted multivariate logistic regression models. Then, Mendelian randomization (MR) was applied to investigate the effect of dietary antioxidant sources on NAFLD at the genetic level.

Objective: As the prevalence of diabetic nephropathy and hypertensive nephropathy increases with age in mainland China, the number of patients with end-stage renal disease is increasing, leading to an increase in the number of patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis. Considering the harmful effects of frailty on the health of maintenance hemodialysis patients, this study aims to identify hemodialysis patients at risk for frailty at an early stage, in order to prevent or delay the progression of frailty in the early stage, so as to prevent the adverse consequences of frailty.

Methods: A total of 479 patients admitted to the blood purification centers of two grade tertiary hospitals in Anhui Province, China, using convenient sampling.

In recent years, continuous exploration worldwide has revealed that some metabolites produced during cellular and tissue metabolism can act as signalling molecules to exert different effects on the human body. These metabolites may act as cofactors for proteases or as post-translational modifications linked to proteins. Lactate, a traditional metabolite, is found at high levels in the tumour microenvironment (TME).

Importance: Recurrence remains a challenge after ablation of outflow tract premature ventricular contractions (OT-PVCs). Although adding additional lesions next to the index effective ablation site is sometimes performed to reinforce the ablation, it remains uncertain whether this approach is effective.

Objective: To test the hypothesis that additional ablation lesions would reduce the recurrence rate compared with single-point ablation at the index effective site for the ablation of OT-PVCs.

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluated ways to distinguish between idiopathic ventricular arrhythmias originating from the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) and the aortic sinus of Valsalva (ASV) using ECG parameters from precordial leads.
  • It examined data from 150 patients who underwent ablation for these arrhythmias, ultimately developing an RV1+RV3 index (the sum of R-wave amplitudes in leads V1 and V3) that showed strong predictive ability with high sensitivity and specificity.
  • The findings suggest that the RV1+RV3 index is a more effective diagnostic tool than previous methods, offering a simplified approach for clinicians in identifying ASV IVAs.

NPRA promotes fatty acid metabolism and proliferation of gastric cancer cells by binding to PPARα.

Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, The First Affiliated Yijishan Hospital of Wannan Medical College, Wuhu, No.2, Zheshan West Road, Wuhu, Anhui 241001, China. Electronic address:

Among cancers, gastric cancer (GC) ranks third globally in morbidity and mortality, particularly in East Asia. Natriuretic peptide receptor A (NPRA), a receptor for guanylate cyclase, plays important roles in regulating water and sodium balance. Recent studies have suggested that NPRA is involved in tumorigenesis, but its role in GC development remains unclear.

Proteins produced by cap-independent translation mediated by an internal ribosome entry site (IRES) in circular RNAs (circRNAs) play important roles in tumour progression. To date, numerous studies have been performed on circRNAs and the proteins they encode. In this review, we summarize the biogenesis of circRNAs and the mechanisms regulating circRNA-encoded proteins expression.

Complete abolition of alveolar epithelial cells (AECs) is characteristic of end-stage lung disease. Transplantation therapy of type II AECs (AEC-IIs) or AEC-IIs-derived exosomes (ADEs) have been proposed as a means of repairing injury and preventing fibrosis. However, the mechanism by which ADEs balances airway immunity and alleviates damage and fibrosis remains unknown.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates whether empirical additional ablation (EAA) can improve long-term control of outflow tract premature ventricular complexes (OT-PVCs) compared to a standard single point ablation method.
  • It is a randomized, multi-center trial where patients, after successful initial ablation, will be divided into two groups: one receiving EAA and the other with no extra ablation.
  • The primary goal is to determine the effectiveness of each approach in preventing PVC recurrence within 3 months post-procedure without relying on antiarrhythmic drugs.

Advances in the Study of CircRNAs in Tumor Drug Resistance.

May 2022

Key Laboratory of Non-coding RNA Transformation Research of Anhui Higher Education Institution, Wannan Medical College, Wuhu, China.

Recent studies have revealed that circRNAs can affect tumor DNA damage and repair, apoptosis, proliferation, and invasion and influence the transport of intratumor substances by acting as miRNA sponges and transcriptional regulators and binding to proteins in a variety of ways. However, research on the role of circRNAs in cancer radiotherapy and chemoresistance is still in its early stages. Chemotherapy is a common approach to oncology treatment, but the development of tumor resistance limits the overall clinical efficacy of chemotherapy for cancer patients.

Epithelium- and endothelium-derived exosomes regulate the alveolar macrophages by targeting RGS1 mediated calcium signaling-dependent immune response.

Cell Death Differ

Department of Pathology, School of Basic Medical Sciences & Sir Run Run Hospital & State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine & Key Laboratory of Antibody Technique of National Health Commission, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, China.

Alveolar macrophages (AM) maintain airway immune balance; however, the regulation of heterogeneity of AMs is incompletely understood. We demonstrate that RGS1 coregulates the immunophenotype of AM subpopulations, including pro- and anti-inflammatory, injury- and repair-associated, and pro- and antifibrotic phenotypes, through the PLC-IP3R signal-dependent intracellular Ca response. Flt3 AMs and Tie2 AMs had different immune properties, and RGS1 expression in the cells was targeted by exosomes (EXOs) containing miR-223 and miR-27b-3p that were derived from vascular endothelial cells (EnCs) and type II alveolar epithelial cells (EpCs-II), respectively.

Key Laboratory of Diagnosis and Treatment of Severe Hepato-Pancreatic Diseases of Zhejiang Province, The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, 325000, China.

The S100 protein family genes play a crucial role in multiple stages of tumorigenesis and progression. Most of S100 genes are located at chromosome locus 1q21, which is a region frequently rearranged in cancers. Here, we examined the expression of the S100 family genes in paired pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) samples and further validated the expression of S100A16 by immunohistochemistry staining.
