Background: Hemiparesis increases the risk of femoral neck fracture (FNF) in the elderly, which frequently necessitates hemiarthroplasty. There are limited reports on the outcomes of hemiarthroplasty in patients who have hemiparesis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate hemiparesis as a potential risk factor for medical and surgical complications following hemiarthroplasty.

Implications of obstructive sleep apnea in lung adenocarcinoma: A valuable omission in cancer prognosis and immunotherapy.

Sleep Med

July 2023

Department of Thoracic Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University, Weihui, 453100, Henan, China; Esophageal Cancer Institute of Xinxiang Medical University, Weihui, 453100, Henan, China. Electronic address:

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a highly invasive malignant tumor with poor prognosis, and there is growing evidence that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) could significantly promotes the risk of LUAD. In order to improve the treatment outcomes of patients with LUAD and OSA, we aim to screen OSA-related genes that may potentially affect LUAD and to discover a high sensitivity prognostic signature that can stratify LUAD/OSA patients and to further accurately identify LUAD patients who might respond to immunotherapy. Molecular subtypes classified by the prognostic signature did not belong to any previously reported subtypes of LUAD.

Background: Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MP-MRI) has high sensitivity for diagnosing breast cancers but cannot always be used as a routine diagnostic tool. The present study aimed to evaluate whether the diagnostic performance of perfluorobutane (PFB) contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is similar to that of MP-MRI in breast cancer and whether combining the two methods would enhance diagnostic efficiency.

Patients And Methods: This was a head-to-head, prospective, multicenter study.

A Half-Sandwich Ruthenium(II) (N^N) Complex: Inducing Immunogenic Melanoma Cell Death in Vitro and in Vivo.

ChemMedChem

August 2023

Xinxiang Key Laboratory of Tumor Vaccine and Immunotherapy, Xinxiang Medical University, Xinxiang, 453000, Henan, P. R. China.

Efficacy of clinical chemotherapeutic agents depends not only on direct cytostatic and cytotoxic effects but also involves in eliciting (re)activation of tumour immune effects. One way to provoke long-lasting antitumour immunity is coined as immunogenic cell death (ICD), exploiting the host immune system against tumour cells as a "second hit". Although metal-based antitumour complexes hold promise as potential chemotherapeutic agents, ruthenium (Ru)-based ICD inducers remain sparse.

Objective: To explore the effect of facet joint degeneration in adjacent segments on the incidence of adjacent segment disease (ASD) after lumbar fusion and fixation.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 138 patients who underwent LS posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) from June 2016 to June 2019. Patients were divided into a degeneration group (68 cases) and a non-degenerative group (70 cases) based on the presence or absence of L facet joint degeneration before surgery (graded using the Weishaupt standard).

Emerging evidence suggests that mitochondria play a central role in mental health disorders including schizophrenia. Here we investigated whether nicotinamide (NAM) normalized cognitive impairment via a mechanism involving the mitochondrial Sirtuin 3 (SIRT3) pathway. The 24 h maternal separation (MS) rat model was used to mimic schizophrenia-associate phenotypes.

EZH2 can be used as a therapeutic agent for inhibiting endothelial dysfunction.

Biochem Pharmacol

July 2023

Cardiovascular Research Center, The First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University, Xinxiang, Henan 453100, China; Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Injury and Repair Medicine of Henan, Weihui, China. Electronic address:

Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) is a catalytic subunit of polycomb repressor complex 2 and plays important roles in endothelial cell homeostasis. EZH2 functionally methylates lysine 27 of histone H3 and represses gene expression through chromatin compaction. EZH2 mediates the effects of environmental stimuli by regulating endothelial functions, such as angiogenesis, endothelial barrier integrity, inflammatory signaling, and endothelial mesenchymal transition.

While acute kidney injury (AKI) has been reported after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT) in children, the incidence of this condition in the pediatric population has not been fully addressed. To assess the incidence of pediatric AKI after HCT treatment,we conducted a systematic literature review. Databases PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and WOS were searched as of June 2022 to identify studies on the incidence and the risk of death in AKI children undergoing HCT.

Background: Both sleep duration and efficiency are essential for health outcomes. However, few studies have considered the effects of both sleep duration and efficiency on predicting the risks of mortality. This study investigated the independent and joint associations of accelerometer-measured sleep duration and efficiency with all-cause and cause-specific mortality.

Background: Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) identifies neurophysiological differences between psychiatric disorders by assessing cortical hemodynamic function. Few trials have studied differences in brain functional activity between first-episode medication-naïve depression patients (FMD) and recurrent major depression (RMD). We aimed to determine the differences between FMD and RMD in oxygenated hemoglobin concentration ([oxy-Hb]), and to investigate the correlation between frontotemporal cortex activation and clinical symptoms.

Article Synopsis
  • Parkinson's disease (PD) is a challenging neurodegenerative disorder causing motor and gastrointestinal issues, potentially linked to gut microbiota disturbances.
  • The study aimed to explore the effects of resveratrol, a natural compound, on gut microbiota in PD mice, using fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) to assess its benefits.
  • Results showed that FMT from resveratrol-treated mice improved PD symptoms and gastrointestinal function, while also positively altering gut microbial composition, suggesting that gut microbiota could help mitigate PD progression.
