Background And Objective: Symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (SICAS) is the most common etiology of ischemic stroke and one of the main causes of high stroke recurrence. The recurrence of stroke is closely related to the prognosis of ischemic stroke. This study aims to develop a machine learning model based on high-resolution vessel wall imaging (HR-VWI) to predict the risk of stroke recurrence in SICAS.

Addiction, particularly in relation to psychostimulants and opioids, persists as a global health crisis with profound social and economic ramifications. Traditional interventions, including medications and behavioral therapies, often encounter limited success due to the chronic and relapsing nature of addictive disorders. Consequently, there is significant interest in the development of innovative therapeutics to counteract the effects of abused substances.

Chronic Cerebral Hypoperfusion (CCH) is associated with cognitive dysfunction, the underlying mechanisms of which remain elusive, hindering the development of effective therapeutic approaches. In this study, we employed an established CCH animal model to delve into neuropathological alterations like oxidative stress, inflammation, neurotransmitter synthesis deficits, and other morphological alterations. Our findings revealed that while the number of neurons remained unchanged, there was a significant reduction in neuronal fibers post-CCH, as evidenced by microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2) staining.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a complex and fatal cardio-pulmonary vascular disease. Decompensated right ventricular hypertrophy (RVH) caused by cardiomyocyte hypertrophy often leads to fatal heart failure, the leading cause of mortality among patients. Sodium butyrate (SB), a compound known to reduce cardiac hypertrophy, was examined for its potential effect and the underlying mechanism of SB on PAH-RVH.

Background: Transversus abdominis plane block (TAPB) is a block of the abdominal afferent nerve fibers between the internal oblique muscle and the transverse abdominal muscle achieved with local anesthetics. It can effectively block the conduction of the anterior nerve of the abdominal wall and exert a good analgesic effect. However, the effect of combining the block with remimazolam on anesthesia in patients undergoing gastrointestinal tumor surgery is still unclear.

Background: Individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are more vulnerable to social disconnection compared with the general population; however, there are few relevant studies investigating this issue.
Aims: To investigate whether social isolation or loneliness may be associated with subsequent risk of developing major adverse cardiovascular events, whether these associations vary according to fatal and non-fatal outcomes and how behavioural, psychological and physiological factors mediate these associations.
Methods: This longitudinal analysis included data from 19 360 individuals with T2DM at baseline (2006-2010) from the UK Biobank.

Introduction: At present, elucidating the cortical origin of EEG microstates is a research hotspot in the field of EEG. Previous studies have suggested that the prefrontal cortex is closely related to EEG microstate C and D, but whether there is a causal link between the prefrontal cortex and microstate C or D remains unclear.
Methods: In this study, pretrial EEG data were collected from ten patients with prefrontal lesions (mainly located in inferior and middle frontal gyrus) and fourteen matched healthy controls, and EEG microstate analysis was applied.

Impaired glutamate recycling plays an important role in the pathophysiology of depression, and it has been demonstrated that glutamate transporter-1 (GLT-1) on astrocytes is involved in glutamate uptake. Studies have shown that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is effective in treating depression, however, the exact mechanism of rTMS treatment remains unclear. Here, we used a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) protocol to induce depression-like behaviors in rats followed by rTMS treatment.

Hypoxia/reoxygenation caused by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) plays an important role in cognitive deficits in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. However, the precise underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study investigated whether the NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is involved in CIH-induced spatial learning and memory impairment in mice, and the possible underlying upstream and downstream mechanisms.

Background: Chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) increases the hypoxic ventilation response (HVR). The downstream cytokine IL-1β of the NLRP3 inflammasome regulates respiration by acting on the carotid body (CB) and neurons in the respiratory center, but the effect of the NLRP3 inflammasome on HVR induced by CIH remains unclear.
Objective: To investigate the effect of NLRP3 on the increased HVR and spontaneous apnea events and duration induced by CIH, the expression and localization of NLRP3 in the respiratory regulatory center of the rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM), and the effect of CIH on the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in the RVLM.

To explore the correlation and causality between multidimensional sleep traits and pan-cancer incidence and mortality among patients with cancer. The multivariable Cox regression, linear and nonlinear Mendelian randomization (MR), and survival curve analyses were conducted to assess the impacts of chronotype, sleep duration, and insomnia symptoms on pan-cancer risk (N = 326,417 from United Kingdom Biobank) and mortality (N = 23,956 from United Kingdom Biobank). In the Cox regression, we observed a linear and J-shaped association of sleep duration with pan-cancer incidence and mortality among cancer patients respectively.
