[Clinical Analysis of Elderly Patients with AML/High-Risk MDS].

Objective: To analyze the clinical features of acute myeloid leukemia (AML)/high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients aged over 60 years old.

Methods: The clinical data of 61 elderly newly diagnosed patients with AML and high-risk MDS who submitted to the Department of Hematology/Oncology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Tsinghua University from January 2009 to April 16, 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. These patients were divided into chemotherapy group (45 cases) and supportive treatment group (16 cases).

During shock, different organs have different capacities for blood flow autoregulation. The kidney is an important organ with excellent ability to autoregulate the blood flow and with vulnerability to poor organ perfusion, which places kidney perfusion in a position of necessity and priority relative to that of other organs in shock.

Vertebral and carotid artery aneurysms and polyarthritis in a patient with Takayasu arteritis: A case report.

Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a common autoimmune disease in the clinical setting. However, vertebral artery aneurysms caused by TA are rarely reported. We herein describe a 28-year-old man with multiple vertebral artery aneurysms and carotid artery aneurysms caused by TA, which showed typical wall thickening and lumen dilation with a "string of beads" appearance by Doppler ultrasound and radiology.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) participate in the comprehensive biological process of several cancer types. In our former study, we found that hsa-microRNA- (miR-)28-5p was downregulated, but tyrosine 3-monooxygenase/tryptophan 5-monooxygenase activating protein zeta (14-3-3 or YWHAZ) was upregulated in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) tissues. We predicted that YWHAZ was a target gene for hsa-miR- 28-5p using bioinformatics analysis.

In this study, we reported a case of hydatidiform mole in a 48-year-old perimenopausal female admitted due to a giant uterine mass of 28 weeks' gestational size. The serum human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) level ranged from 944 to 1,286 mIU/mL before treatments.

[Degeneration and regeneration characteristics of nerves and muscles after recurrent laryngeal nerve injury].

We investigated the degeneration and regeneration characteristics of nerves and muscles after different degrees of recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury, and then discussed the possible relations between them. Ninety-five Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were used in this study, 2 rats died of infection, 2 died during surgery and 1 died in transit. The rest 90 SD rats were classified as having complete injuries (transection,43 rats), incomplete injuries (crush, 43 rats) and conrtol group (4 rats).

Background: The use of low-dose aspirin (LDA) has emerged as an important cause of gastrointestinal ulcers. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between LDA-induced gastric mucosal injury and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and cell apoptosis in elderly Chinese patients.

Methods: A total of 136 patients aged 60 to 80 years with LDA-induced (100 mg/d for at least 1 month) gastric mucosal injury and 48 age-matched healthy subjects were enrolled in this study.

Clinical studies have suggested that metformin, a widely used antidiabetic agent, exerts a direct cardioprotective effect on cardiovascular disease in addition to its blood glucose-lowering activity. This study was designed to identify the role of metformin in rats with isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial injury and to investigate its underlying mechanism. A rat model of myocardial ischemic injury was established by the subcutaneous injection of a high dose of ISO, a beta-adrenergic agonist.

Ghrelin, the endogenous ligand of growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R), is a cardioprotective peptide. In our previous work, we have revealed that ghrelin could protect heart against ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury by inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), which contributes to many heart diseases. In current study, using both in vivo and in vitro models, we investigated how ghrelin inhibits myocardial ERS.
