Bacteriophages (phages) are increasingly viewed as a promising alternative for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. However, the diversity of host ranges complicates the identification of target phages. Existing computational tools often fail to accurately identify phages across different bacterial species.

Background: The senescence of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) is increasingly recognized as a critical factor contributing to the pathophysiology of age-related diseases. Recent studies suggest that small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) derived from the serum of elderly individuals may play a pivotal role in promoting BMMSC senescence. Glycoprotein non-metastatic melanoma protein B (GPNMB), a type I transmembrane glycoprotein, is upregulated during cellular senescence and can regulate stem cell ageing.

The death of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) is a key factor in the pathophysiology of all forms of glaucoma. RGC culture serves as a simple system for establishing and testing candidate therapies. This study aimed to explore the differentiation of primary retinal progenitor cells (RPCs) into RGC-like cells induced by low-dose cytarabine (Ara-C).

Background And Purpose: In this study, we aimed to develop and validate a novel nomogram model for predicting 90-day non-favorable clinical outcomes in patients with acute vertebrobasilar artery occlusion after endovascular treatment by integrating clinical and MRI features.
Materials And Methods: This multicenter retrospective study analyzed data from 181 patients with vertebrobasilar artery occlusion eligible for endovascular treatment from two Chinese stroke centers. We developed a predictive model for non-favorable clinical outcomes (modified Rankin Scale score >3) using the data of 125 patients from Stroke Center A (2019-2023).

Background: The arterial stiffening is attributed to the intrinsic structural stiffening and/or load-dependent stiffening by increased blood pressure (BP). The respective lifetime alterations and major determinants of the two components with normal aging are not clear.
Methods: A total of 3053 healthy adults (1922 women) aged 18-79 years were enrolled.

Objectives: To analyze the influence of daily activity-related factors associated with COVID-19 infection on the occurrence of acute angle closure (AAC).
Methods: A multicenter hospital-based study was conducted at 23 ophthalmic centers in 17 provincial-level regions across China to recruit patients with confirmed AAC during the post-lockdown time of COVID-19 (P-TOC) from Dec 7, 2022, to Jan 17, 2023, and three lockdown time of COVID-19 (TOC) periods, which included the TOC-2022 (Sep 7, 2022 - Dec 6, 2022), TOC-2021(Sep 7, 2021 - Jan 6, 2022) and TOC-2020 (Sep 7, 2020 - Jan 6, 2021). Patient information, including demographic, a questionnaire on daily activity changes during the AAC period, COVID-19 history, and eye examination results, was collected.

Introduction: Despite prompt and appropriate surgical management, a considerable proportion of patients with congenital ectopia lentis (CEL) suffer from postoperative ametropic amblyopia. To predict and identify at-risk patients early, and ensure timely amblyopia treatment, we conducted a thorough investigation into the onset and progression patterns of postoperative amblyopia in patients with CEL. Moreover, an ocular prediction model was constructed for amblyopia.

Background: The exploration of age-related clinical features and adverse outcomes of non-disabling ischemic cerebrovascular disease (NICE) has been largely unaddressed in current research. This study aimed to analyze the differences in clinical characteristics and prognostic outcomes of NICE across various age groups, utilizing data from the Xi'an Stroke Registry Study in China.
Methods: The age distribution of NICE was categorized into four groups: age ≤ 54 years, age 55-64 years, age 65-74 years, and age ≥ 75 years.

Background: This case mainly describes a relatively rare case of an old mineral-like corneal foreign body that existed for up to 20 years, and did not significantly affect the visual quality of the patient.
Case Presentation: A 56-year-old male miner complained of right eye vision loss for 3 years, swollen and painful for 4 months. Admission examination: Best corrected visual acuity was no light perception in the right eye and 20/20 in the left eye.

Aquaporin-4 antibodies (AQP4-Abs) are a diagnostic marker for patients with a demyelinating disease called neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). Anti-Argonaute antibodies (AGO-Abs) present as potential biomarkers of the overlap syndrome between NMOSD and other autoimmune diseases. In this paper, we present the case of an adult woman with numbness, tingling, and burning sensations in her arms and subsequent bilateral internuclear ophthalmoplegia.

However, the lack of systematic and continuous comparison between in vivo retinal development and the organotypic retinal explant culture makes this model controversial in postnatal retinal development studies.

The prevalence of retinal degenerative diseases, including age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa, has been increasing globally and is linked to the aging population and improved life expectancy. These diseases are characterized by chronic, progressive neuronal damage or depletion of the photoreceptor cells in the retina, and limited effective treatment options are currently available. Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (MSC-EXOs) containing cytokines, growth factors, lipids, mRNA, and miRNA, which act as mediators of intercellular communication transferring bioactive molecules to recipient cells, offer an appealing, non-cellular nanotherapeutic approach for retinal degenerative diseases.

This research delves into the effectiveness of Ginkgolide B (GB), a compound from Ginkgo biloba, in combating cell death caused by glaucoma, with a focus on mitochondrial impairment and the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP). Utilizing models of high intraocular pressure and in vitro glaucoma simulations, the study investigates GB's impact on retinal progenitor cells (RPCs) under oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R) and in a rat glaucoma model. The study methodologies included apoptosis assessment, apoptotic marker analysis via Western blot, and mitochondrial structure and function evaluation.

We aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effect of rutin on retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) under ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) conditions and the underlying mechanisms involving microglia polarization and JAK/STAT3 signaling. RGCs isolated from C57/Bl6 mice were co-cultured with BV2 microglial cells under normal or in vitro oxygen-glucose deprivation and reoxygenation (OGD/R) conditions. Rutin's effects were evaluated by assessing cell viability, apoptosis rates, cytokine levels, microglial polarization markers and JAK/STAT3 phosphorylation levels.

Rationale: Ornidazole is a synthetic nitroimidazole derivative that is commonly prescribed for antiparasitic or anti-anaerobic infections. It is generally well tolerated, with known side effects including gastrointestinal tract, anaphylaxis, and central nervous system reactions. Ornidazole-induced binocular reactive keratitis and several mucocutaneous lesions have been rarely reported.
