While previous studies have indicated the involvement of Isthmin 1 (ISM1), a secreted protein, in cancer development, the precise mechanisms have remained elusive. In this study, we unveiled that ISM1 is significantly overexpressed in both the blood and tissue samples of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients, correlating with their poor prognosis. Functional experiments demonstrated that enforced ISM1 expression significantly enhances CRC proliferation, migration, invasion and tumor growth.

() is an ascosporogenic species of yeast that belongs to the genus and the family of Saccharomycetaceae. It has recently been found to cause various types of infections, particularly in critically ill immunocompromised patients. The present study describes a case of hospital-acquired pneumonia caused by during veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

Sitosterolemia is a rare autosomal recessive hereditary disease caused by loss-of-function genetic mutations in either ATP-binding cassette subfamily G member 5 or member 8 (ABCG5 or ABCG8). Here, we investigate novel variants in ABCG5 and ABCG8 that are associated with the sitosterolemia phenotype. We describe a 32-year-old woman with hypercholesterolemia, tendon and hip xanthomas, autoimmune hemolytic anemia and macrothrombocytopenia from early life, which make us highly suspicious of the possibility of sitosterolemia.

Neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC), the most lethal subtype of castration-resistant prostate cancer (PCa), may evolve from the neuroendocrine differentiation (NED) of PCa cells. However, the molecular mechanism that triggers NED is unknown. Trigred motif 36 (TRIM36), a member of the TRIM protein family, exhibits oncogenic or anti-oncogenic roles in various cancers.

Background: Many clinical studies have shown a correlation between proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and osteoporosis or fractures. The purpose of this study was to establish a murine model of chronic oral PPI administration to verify whether PPIs caused bone metabolic impairment and investigate the relevant molecular mechanism underlying the effects of PPIs on MC3T3-E1 murine osteoblasts.
Methods: A lansoprazole-induced bone loss model was used to investigate the damaging effects of PPIs.

Background: Pioglitazone may have a protective effect against cardiovascular disease risk among type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients, but evidence from China is lacking. This study investigated the association using electronic health records (EHR) data from a Chinese cohort of T2D patients.
Methods: All T2D patients from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University who were prescribed at least one oral antidiabetic drug and were aged ≥18 years between 1 July 2005 and 30 June 2017 were eligible for inclusion (n = 71 783).

Rationale: Primary aldosteronism due to aldosteronoma is the most common form of secondary hypertension, with an estimated prevalence of 4% of hypertensive patients in primary care and around 10% of referred patients. Diagnosis is a clinical challenge with simultaneous occurrence of primary ectopic meningioma in the adrenal gland. To our knowledge this is the first reported case of simultaneous occurrence of aldosteronomas and ectopic meningioma in the adrenal gland based on literatures.

Background: For a distal tibial spiral fracture combined with a non-displaced posterior malleolar fragment (PMF), we proposed a hypothesis that the treating surgeon could assess the size of the PMF to determine the need for stabilizing that structure first before rodding the tibia.
Materials And Methods: Fifty 3-D models (22 females) of combined distal tibial and posterior malleolar fractures from one trauma center were reconstructed. In each case, a virtual tibial intramedullary nail (vIM nail) with three distal anteroposterior (AP) locking screws (S, S and S, the number indicating the distance from the screw to the nail tip) were inserted into the center of the tibial canal and ended on top of the distal tibial physeal scar.

Recently promoter of has been found to be high methylated in gastric cancer tissues which might be involved in the initiation of gastric carcinoma development. To test whether the variants in could modify the risk of gastric cancer, we evaluated the association between four SNPs (rs6194, rs12521436, rs33388 and rs4912913) in and gastric cancer risk in a case-control study with 1,113 gastric cancer cases and 1,848 cancer-free controls in a Chinese population. We found a significant association between rs4912913 and gastric cancer risk (OR=1.

Aggressive NK-cell leukemia (ANKL) is a rare form of NK cell neoplasm that is more prevalent among people from Asia and Central and South America. Patients usually die within days to months, even after receiving prompt therapeutic management. Here we performed the first comprehensive study of ANKL by integrating whole genome, transcriptome and targeted sequencing, cytokine array as well as functional assays.

Protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), a tumor suppressor protein, has been implicated in cell cycle and apoptosis. Additionally, studies have illustrated its crucial roles in transformation of normal human cells to tumorigenic status. PPP2CA, which encodes the alpha isoform of the catalytic subunit of PP2A, has been recently reported to be associated with several types of cancers.

Background/objectives: Liver cirrhosis and its complications are important factors contributing to mortality worldwide. Statin use is probably associated with lower risk of hepatic decompensation and mortality, but not with cirrhosis or fibrosis progression according to a recent systematic review. We aimed to evaluate the definite effects of statins on the risk of virus-related cirrhosis.

We aimed to explore whether maternal chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection certainly affects preterm labor (birth) in pregnant women. Four databases were systematically searched up to May 31, 2017, without language restriction. Any study was included if it clearly defined exposure to chronic HBV infection, reported risk of preterm labor or birth in pregnant women, and reported relative risks (RRs) or odds ratios (ORs) or provided data for estimation.

Background: The cysteinyl transfer RNA synthetase gene (CARS) is located on chromosome band 11p15.5, which is an important tumor-suppressor gene region. Mutations in CARS have been identified in many kinds of cancers; however, evidence for a relationship between genetic variants in CARS and gastric cancer at the population level is still lacking.

FOSL1 (FOS like antigen 1) is one kind of proto-oncogene, and may play a vital role in carcinogenesis of multiple cancers. However, studies about the relationship between SNPs in FOSL1 and gastric cancer are still lacking. Thus, we investigated the association of seven SNPs in FOSL1 with gastric cancer using case-control design in a two-stage strategy (Screening stage: 1,140 gastric cancer cases and 1,547 controls; Replication stage: 1,006 cases and 2,273 controls).

Aim: To perform a site-specific conjugation of Fab' fragments of a mouse monoclonal antibody(MoAb) B43(of IgG1 subtype) to a bifunctional chelator 6-[p-(bromoacetamido)benzyl]-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane-N,N',N' 'N' ' '-tetraacetic acid (BAT) via the thiol groups in the hinge distal to the antigen-binding site of the Fab'.
Methods: B43 was cleaved using a simple 2-step method. First, stable F(ab')(2) was produced by pepsin treatment.
