Real-world clinical outcomes among individuals with chronic HCV infection in China: CCgenos study.

Background: This 5-year follow-up of the CCgenos cross-sectional study aimed to observe real-life outcomes in a cohort of 997 Han Chinese patients with chronic HCV infection and to explore the impacts of HCV genotype, patient characteristics and treatment status.

Methods: Clinical information and centralized HCV RNA measures were collected every 6/3 months for untreated/treated patients. Overall disease progression was defined as ≥1 of: de novo development of cirrhosis, Child-Turcotte-Pugh score increased by ≥2 points (if cirrhosis at baseline), progression to decompensated cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), liver transplant or death.

Synthesis, toxicity and antitumor activity of cobalt carbonyl complexes targeting hepatocellular carcinoma.

Based on our previous research, a series of targeting hepatocellular carcinoma complexes, [R-Glycyrrhetinic acid-CHCH-[Co(CO)] (R = H, 1; R = NSAIDs-COOH, 2-4; R = Aromatic acid, 5-7; R = Amino acid, 8-10), were synthesized. The test showed they are slow CO releasers. Using HeLa, A549, HT-29, SMMC7721 and HepG2 cells as models, their activities against tumor cell proliferation were firstly evaluated.

Toxicities and beneficial protection of HS donors based on nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

On the basis of our previous study, the HS donors based on nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were further evaluated with regard to the following aspects: animal blood and urine analyses, liver and kidney toxicities, gastrointestinal protection, anti-hypertension, and myocardial protection. The test results showed that after the successive administration of the compound for 14 days, the number of white blood cells in the blood of rats reduced, and protein and leukocytes appeared in urine; further, α-lipoic-acid-acetaminophen ester () and ibuprofen-ADTOH ester () had a certain effect on the physiological tissue and function of rat liver, and their side-effects on the kidneys were obvious. However, when compared with NSAIDs as the precursors, the tested compounds displayed much fewer side-effects; particularly, for the gastrointestinal mucosa of rats, there were hardly any side-effects.

Toxicity, bioactivity, release of HS in vivo and pharmaco-kinetics of HS-donors with thiophosphamide structure.

HS donors are substitutes of HS with various biological activities like inhibiting the inflammatory response and protecting myocardial cells from injury. In order to confirm whether the HS donors have drug-like properties, two series thiophosphamide HS donors were evaluated including toxicity, bioactivity and pharmacokinetic properties in vivo and in vitro. Our study objective was to compare the efficacy of two available preparations of progesterone, vaginal gel and intramuscular injection, for luteal phase support in assisted reproduction cycles.

Study Design: This study included data gathered from 18 reproductive centers in China.

Exosomes are vehicles in the body fluid that participate in many biological processes, especially immune responses. In this study, we employed comparative proteome analysis to investigate the roles of serum exosomes during viral infection in neonates using porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), a devastating enteric virus in newborn piglets, as a model virus. Serum exosomes were first isolated from newborn piglets infected with PEDV or mock-infected newborn piglets, followed by label-free LC-MS/MS-based comparative quantitative proteomic analysis.

Development of a prognostic score for recommended TACE candidates with hepatocellular carcinoma: A multicentre observational study.

Background & Aims: Previous prognostic scores for transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) were mainly derived from real-world settings, which are beyond guideline recommendations. A robust model for outcome prediction and risk stratification of recommended TACE candidates is lacking. We aimed to develop an easy-to-use tool specifically for these patients.

Outcome of patient with high-risk chronic myelomonocytic leukemia, treated with decitabine prior to transformation to acute myeloid leukemia: A case report.

The present study describes a patient with high-risk chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML), for whom decitabine therapy achieved partial remission, prior to a sudden transformation to acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and an inferior outcome. The 53-year-old male reported easily bruising for 5 months. Examination indicated a diagnosis of CMML.

Co-expression of ATP binding cassette transporters is associated with poor prognosis in acute myeloid leukemia.

Chemotherapy failure remains a challenge when treating patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), who often suffer from persistent or relapsed disease. The multidrug resistance (MDR) mediated by efflux transporters of the ATP binding cassette (ABC) superfamily is a major obstacle for successful chemotherapy. The present study aimed to elucidate whether the expression of ABC transporters was associated with prognostic factors and responses to chemotherapy in patients with AML, with particular focus on whether co-expression of multiple ABC transporters resulted in a worse prognosis.

Sporadic lymphangioleiomyomatosis with multiple atypical features: A case report and literature review.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare, genetically determined, progressive interstitial lung disease, which almost exclusively affects women, especially at the childbearing age. The initial symptoms and radiographic changes in a patient with LAM are always associated with the respiratory system. Here, we present a case of mediastinal and abdominal LAM of a 22-year-old male, where LAM cells are negative for human melanoma black-45 ( HMB-45).

Cancer cell-derived von Willebrand factor enhanced metastasis of gastric adenocarcinoma.

Cancer prognosis is poor for patients with blood-borne metastasis. Platelets are known to assist cancer cells in transmigrating through the endothelium, but ligands for the platelet-mediated cancer metastasis remain poorly defined. von Willebrand factor (vWF) is a major platelet ligand that has been widely used as a biomarker in cancer and associated inflammation.

[Efficacy and safety of pegylated interferon α-2b injection (Y shape, 40 kD) in treatment of patients with genotype 1/6 chronic hepatitis C].

To investigate the efficacy and safety of the new investigational drug pegylated interferon α-2b (Peg-IFN-α-2b) (Y shape, 40 kD) injection (180 µg/week) combined with ribavirin in the treatment of patients with genotype 1/6 chronic hepatitis C (CHC), with standard-dose Peg-IFN-α-2a combined with ribavirin as a positive control. A multicenter, randomized, open-label, and positive-controlled phase III clinical trial was performed. Eligible patients with genotype 1/6 CHC were screened out and randomly divided into Peg-IFN-α-2b(Y shape, 40kD) group and Peg-IFN-α-2a group at a ratio of 2:1.

Identification of Differentiation-Related Proteins in Gastric Adenocarcinoma Tissues by Proteomics.

There is a significant correlation between the degree of tumor differentiation and the survival of patients with gastric cancers. In this report, we compared proteomic differences between poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma tissues and well-differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma tissues in order to identify differentiation-related proteins that may be closely correlated with differentiation of gastric cancer pathogenesis. We identified 7 proteins, of which calreticulin precursor, tapasinERP57 heterodimer, pyruvate kinase isozymes M1/M2 isoform M2, class Pi glutathione S-transferase, and chain A crystal structure of human enolase 1 were upregulated in poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma compared with well-differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma, while myosin-11 isoform SM2A and actin alpha cardiac were downregulated.

Early sorafenib-related adverse events predict therapy response of TACE plus sorafenib: A multicenter clinical study of 606 HCC patients.

The purpose of our study was to test the hypothesis that sorafenib-related dermatologic adverse events (AEs) as an early biomarker can predict the long-term outcomes following the combination therapy of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus sorafenib (TACE-S). The intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma patients who received either TACE-S or TACE-alone treatment were consecutively included into analysis. In the TACE-S group, patients with ≥ grade 2 dermatologic AEs within the first month of sorafenib initiation were defined as responders; whereas those with < grade 2 were defined as nonresponders.
