Background: Radiotherapy and surgery are the standard local treatments for lung cancer brain metastases (BMs). However, limited studies focused on the effects of radiotherapy and surgery in lung cancer BMs with poor prognosis factors.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 714 patients with lung cancer BMs.

Background: Inflammation plays a key role in the pathophysiology and progression of acute kidney injury (AKI). Red cell distribution width (RDW) to platelet ratio (RPR) is a novel inflammatory index, and its prognostic effect on critically ill patients with AKI is rarely investigated. This work is aimed at investigating the association between RPR and in-hospital mortality in these patients.

Homocysteine (Hcy) is a non-essential amino acid produced from methionine. It has been reported that high concentrations of Hcy are related to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases and induce the disruption of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) by triggering oxidative stress and inflammation. LCZ696 is a novel antihypertensive agent that has been recently reported to possess promising anti-inflammatory properties.

Objective: To investigate the effect of exosomes derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSC-Exos) on diabetic nephropathy (DN) rats and its possible mechanism.
Methods: Thirty rats were divided into the following three groups of 10 rats each: the NC group (normal rats), the DN group (rats with DN), and the BM group (DN rats injected with BMMSC-Exo). Blood glucose level, renal function, blood lipid level, and plasma viscosity of the rats were detected.

In oncogenesis and development of malignant tumor, microRNAs (miRNAs) regulate the complex gene expression associated with the tumor pathogenesis. Currently, only few studies have been conducted to identify miRNAs and the potential pathways involved in the pathogenesis of brain metastasis in patients who underwent radiotherapy, especially miRNAs in the plasma exosomes. Therefore, this study is aimed to use small RNA analysis to identify miRNAs and their potential target genes in plasma exosomes during the initiation and development of brain metastasis in patients who underwent radiotherapy.

Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-induced endothelial senescence is involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and many cardiovascular diseases. G-protein-coupled receptor 120 (GPR120), a type of orphan G-protein-coupled receptors (GPRs), plays a vital role in mediating anti-inflammatory and insulin-sensitizing effects. The biological function of GPR120 in vascular endothelial cells is largely unknown.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a worldwide pandemic, affecting countries across the globe. With no current vaccine, treatment is still a critical intervention for minimizing morbidity and preventing disease-specific mortality. This study aimed to assess the clinical outcomes of critically ill COVID-19 patients using Tocilizumab treatment to provide recommendations for the treatment of COVID-19 patients with severe disease.

Objective of the present study was to investigate the tolerant radiation dose of nasal mucosa by observing and analyzing patients who received intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). Patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (N = 66) were selected for this study. The modified saccharin assay, endoscopy test, magnetic resonance imaging, and sino-nasal outcome test-20 (SNOT-20) survey were performed for the patients before and at 0 (T0), 3 (T1), 6 (T2), and 12 (T3) months after radiotherapy.

Despite development in therapies, the high recurrence and low positivity of biomarkers for diagnosis still result in glioma with high mortality. In this study, we aimed to identify a potential miRNA signature to evaluate the effect of radiotherapy in glioma patients. MicroRNA (miRNA) sequencing was performed on miRNAs isolated from serum exosomes in a cohort of glioma patients before and after radiotherapy.

Background: To evaluate the effect of ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS) in a single session combined with great saphenous vein (GSV) high ligation for severe lower extremity varicosis classified as C4-C6, compared with GSV stripping plus multistab avulsion or transilluminated powered phlebectomy (TIPP).
Methods: From January 2012 to December 2014, 177 patients with primary GSV insufficiency, classified as C4-C6, were randomized into the UGFS group or the control group. The UGFS group was managed by GSV high ligation and foam sclerotherapy in one session under the surveillance of ultrasonography, whereas the control group received GSV high ligation and stripping combined with multistab avulsion or TIPP.

Gestational choriocarcinoma ended with a successful parturition is extremely rare, especially in cases where multiple metastases occurred.A 29-year-old Chinese primigravida was admitted with vaginal bleeding at 32 gestational week, and diagnosed with gestational choriocarcinoma with vaginal, pulmonary, and cerebral metastasis after pathological, and imaging examination. At 33 gestational week, a healthy infant was delivered by cesarean section.

Background: Pregnancies in hemodialysis patients are uncommon and difficult to study. Although the chance of a successful pregnancy and parturition in hemodialysis women has increased over the years, it still remains extremely low with a high maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity rate.
Case Presentation: We reported a case of successful pregnancy and parturition in a 22-year-old Chinese female in uremic stage of chronic renal failure and undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (three sessions a week) for 6 years.

Objective: To study the distribution and expression of STAT6 and to examine the suggested roles of STAT6 in the pathogenesis of eosinophil infiltration in nasal polyps and to evaluate the role of STAT6 in the pathogenesis of nasal polyps.
Method: All selected cases met the enrollment criteria. Thirty samples of nasal polyps were obtained from patients undergoing nasal polypectomy, and 10 samples of inferior turbinate tissues were from patients undergoing nasal septal reconstruction.

Aim: In addition to the model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) and Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) score, the change in MELD score (DeltaMELD) and CTP (DeltaCTP) over time, as well as the modified CTP score, have been proposed as predictive factors for patients with advanced liver cirrhosis. We investigated the ability of the above scoring systems to predict the outcome of decompensated cirrhosis in the Chinese mainland.
Methods: A cohort of 160 patients with advanced liver cirrhosis who were followed up were studied prospectively.

Objective: To study the clinical significance of the expression of p53, p63 and p73 protein and the correlation of p53 and p63 in nasal and paranasal sinus carcinoma (NPSC).
Method: The immunohistochemical technique was used to detect the expression of p53, p63 and p73 in 67 cases of NPSC, para-cancer tissues and non-cancer tissues.
Result: The positive rate of p53 and p63 protein in NPSC was significantly higher than that in park cancer tissues and non-cancer tissues (P<0.

Objective: To investigate the mechanism for vertical transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.
Methods: This study included 6 pairs of mothers and fetuses who were positive for anti-HCV antibody and HCV RNA, and 2 pairs of fathers and fetus in whom the father was positive for anti-HCV and HCV RNA while the mother was negative. HCV genotypes were detected by PCR and the nucleotide sequences of HCV genome spanning the core and envelope gene region (HCV C/E1) determined and compared.
