Role of exosomal miRNAs in brain metastasis affected by radiotherapy.

Transl Neurosci

January 2021

Department of Radiation Oncology, The Second Clinical Medical College of Jinan University, Shenzhen Municipal People's Hospital, 1017 Dongmen North Road, Shenzhen, Guangdong, 518020, China.

In oncogenesis and development of malignant tumor, microRNAs (miRNAs) regulate the complex gene expression associated with the tumor pathogenesis. Currently, only few studies have been conducted to identify miRNAs and the potential pathways involved in the pathogenesis of brain metastasis in patients who underwent radiotherapy, especially miRNAs in the plasma exosomes. Therefore, this study is aimed to use small RNA analysis to identify miRNAs and their potential target genes in plasma exosomes during the initiation and development of brain metastasis in patients who underwent radiotherapy.

Article Synopsis
  • Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) vascular grafts struggle with endothelialization due to their nonconductive surfaces, which hinder cell attachment.
  • A novel modification method incorporating extracellular matrix (ECM) and CD34 monoclonal antibodies (CD34 mAb) was developed to enhance cell adhesion and growth on these grafts, potentially improving their long-term viability.
  • The study confirmed that this modification increased hydrophilicity, improved biocompatibility, reduced platelet adhesion, and facilitated endothelial cell adhesion, indicating a promising approach for enhancing the performance of ePTFE grafts in medical applications.
