Brucellosis, a zoonotic disease primarily transmitted through livestock, poses significant health and economic challenges globally. Its increasing incidence in China highlights critical gaps in current control measures, particularly in regions with high livestock movement, where domestic ruminants trade networks elevate the risk of disease transmission. Traditional value chain analyses often provide descriptive mappings of these networks but lack quantitative methods to assess specific risk levels.

Japanese encephalitis (JE), caused by Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), is a mosquito-borne zoonotic disease and a leading cause of viral encephalitis worldwide. While JEV has the ability to traverse the blood-brain barrier (BBB), the precise mechanisms by which it inhibits the immune response prior to penetrating the BBB remain unclear, presenting obstacles in the development of efficacious therapeutic interventions. This study investigated the impact of JEV on CD8 T cell responses, with a particular focus on the dysfunction of CD8 T cells during JEV infection.

Enzootic bovine leukosis, a neoplastic disease caused by the bovine leukemia virus (BLV), was the primary cancer affecting cattle in China before 1985. Although its prevalence decreased significantly between 1986 and 2000, enzootic bovine leukosis has been re-emerging since 2000. This re-emergence has been largely overlooked, possibly due to the latent nature of BLV infection or the perceived lack of sufficient evidence.

Salmonella is a food-borne zoonotic pathogen that threatens food safety and public health security. Temperate phages can influence bacterial virulence and phenotype and play an important role in bacterial evolution. However, most studies on Salmonella temperate phages focus on prophage induced by bacteria, with few reports on Salmonella temperate phages isolated in the environment.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) poses a serious threat to global public health due to its resistance to specific antibiotics. Bacteriophages particularly the lytic ones are promoted as a potential powerful-tool to combat infections caused by drug resistant bacteria; while several disadvantages limited the application of the temperate ones. In this study, we isolated 14 phages against MRSA strains, and found three ones showed the capacity of killing most of the target MRSA strains.

Every-other-day fasting (EODF), which involves alternating days of fasting and feeding, has been reported to lower obesity, and dietary fibers can improve metabolism by altering gut microbiota. This study investigated whether the combination of functional fiber (FF) and EODF (FF-EODF) can further improve insulin sensitivity by regulating the composition of microbiota and curbing weight gain. Twenty-eight diet-induced obese (DIO) mice were randomly divided into four experimental groups (n=7): (1) ad-libitum (AL), (2) EODF, (3) 4% FF-EODF and (4) 6% FF-EODF.

Obesity may cause metabolic syndrome and has become a global public health problem, and dietary fibers (DF) could alleviate obesity and metabolic syndrome by regulating intestinal microbiota. We developed a functional fiber (FF) with a synthetic mixture of polysaccharides, high viscosity, water-binding capacity, swelling capacity, and fermentability. This study aimed to investigate the effect of FF on obesity and to determine its prevention of obesity by modulating the gut microbiota.

The gastrointestinal tract is a heterogeneous ecosystem with distinct, stratified environments, which leads to different microbial composition in different intestinal segments. The regional heterogeneity of intestinal microbiota complicates the relationship between diet and microbiota. Few studies have focused on the effects of different diets on microbiota in different intestinal segments.

The two-component system BaeSR is an extra-cytoplasmic stress response system in Escherichia coli, whose function is to be adapted to environmental stress. Recently, we have identified an active type VI secretion system in porcine extra-intestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli PCN033. DNA-protein interactions shows that BaeR directly binds to the promoter region of the T6SS and then induces its expression.

The transition from pregnancy to lactation is characterized by a progressive decrease in insulin sensitivity. Propionate increases with dietary fiber consumption and has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity. Recent studies suggest that plasma odd-chain fatty acids [OCFAs; pentadecanoic acid (C15:0) and heptadecanoic acid (C17:0)] that inversely correlated with insulin resistance are synthesized endogenously from gut-derived propionate.
