The study of transient and variable events, including novae, active galactic nuclei, and black hole binaries, has historically been a fruitful path for elucidating the evolutionary mechanisms of our universe. The study of such events in the millimeter and submillimeter is, however, still in its infancy. Submillimeter observations probe a variety of materials, such as optically thick dust, which are hard to study in other wavelengths.

MAL2 (myelin and lymphocyte protein 2) and rab17 have been identified as hepatocellular carcinoma tumor suppressors. However, little is known how their functions in hepatic polarized protein sorting/trafficking translates into how they function in the epithelial to mesenchymal transition and/or the mesenchymal to epithelial transition in metastases. To investigate this, we expressed MAL2 and rab17 alone or together in hepatoma-derived Clone 9 cells (that lack endogenous MAL2 and rab17).

Protective antibodies target cryptic epitope unmasked by cleavage of malaria sporozoite protein.

The most advanced monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and vaccines against malaria target the central repeat region or closely related sequences within the circumsporozoite protein (PfCSP). Here, using an antigen-agnostic strategy to investigate human antibody responses to whole sporozoites, we identified a class of mAbs that target a cryptic PfCSP epitope that is only exposed after cleavage and subsequent pyroglutamylation (pGlu) of the newly formed N terminus. This pGlu-CSP epitope is not targeted by current anti-PfCSP mAbs and is not included in the licensed malaria vaccines.

Understanding older adults' perceptions of hospital falls: Confidence, fear, consequences, and help-seeking intentions.

Aim: Aim of the paper is to determine the relationship between patients' perceived risk of falling and their fall-risk assessment ranking.

Design: A cross-sectional correlational design.

Methods: Four questionnaires: confidence, fear, consequence and intention related to falls were administered to 54 hospitalized older adults.

Association of structured continuum emission with dynamic aurora.

Patterns of ionospheric luminosity provide a unique window into our complex, coupled space environment. The aurora, for example, indicates plasma processes occurring thousands of km away, depositing immense amounts of energy into our polar ionospheres. Here we show observations of structured continuum emission associated with the dynamic aurora.

Purpose: This study analyzed the longitudinal relationship between smartphone addiction and sleep duration to investigate the factors contributing to sleep deprivation in Korean children.

Methods: To overcome the limitations of previous studies, panel quantile regression analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between smartphone addiction and sleep duration. Key variables were smartphone addiction, sleep duration, gender, and age.

Call to Action: Screening and Addressing Caregiver Mental Health Needs within all Pediatric Medical Subspecialty Settings as Standard of Care.

Objective: The objective of this topical review is to provide rationale for the development of standards of care to address the mental health needs of caregivers of youth with chronic and acute conditions.

Methods: In this topical review, we describe the relationship between pediatric medical conditions and caregiver mental health, the state of available screening and intervention options, standards of care in medicine, existing caregiver mental health standards in pediatric subspecialty populations, and exemplar caregiver mental health programs that were developed in response to standards. Finally, we will describe our rationale for this standard of care, provide a call to action, and describe anticipated challenges in developing and implementing such standards.

Distinct peroxisome populations differentially respond to alcohol-associated hepatic injury.

Although peroxisomes are known to oxidize ethanol, metabolize lipids, and regulate oxidative stress, they remain understudied in the context of ethanol-induced liver injury. We examined peroxisome early responses to alcohol-induced oxidative stress and lipid overload. Analysis of peroxisomes labeled with catalase, an ethanol oxidizing enzyme, or ABCD3, a fatty acid transporter, revealed that distinct peroxisome populations differentially respond to ethanol.

Longitudinal Pain Management Claims in Maryland: Implications.

The study is a longitudinal review of pain management claims filed in the state of Maryland. Adverse outcomes associated with pain-related claims are often severe and include death, brain damage, and back and spinal cord sequelae. There is a lot to be learned from past experiences, identified in closed pain management claims, specifically on how to improve patient education, outcomes, quality, and safety.

Evidence of high electron mobility in magnetic kagome topological metal FeSn thin films.

We present a systematic study of the low-energy electrodynamics of the magnetic FeSn kagome metal, which hosts both topological (Dirac) and non-trivial states. Our results reveal that the optical conductivity of FeSn shows two Drude contributions that can be associated with the linear (Dirac) and parabolic (massive) bands, with a dominance of the former to the DC conductivity at low temperatures. The weight of the Drude response shifts toward lower frequencies upon cooling due to a rapid increase in the Dirac electron mobility, which we associate with a temperature suppression of e-ph scattering.

Gravity support from a robotic exoskeleton increases spontaneous use of the nondominant upper extremity during a choice reaching task.

The objective was to determine whether gravity support for the left arm of right-handed participants would increase left arm use during a three-dimensional (3-D) reaching task in virtual reality. Twelve healthy control participants each completed 630 reaching movements broken into six blocks. The majority of targets were placed close to the midsagittal plane at three heights, and participants were free to use either limb when reaching for targets.
