The growth of high-quality graphene on flat and rigid templates, such as metal thin films on insulating wafers, is regarded as a key enabler for technologies based on 2D materials. In this work, the growth of decoupled graphene is introduced via non-reducing low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) on crystalline Cu(111) films deposited on sapphire. The resulting film is atomically flat, with no detectable cracks or ripples, and lies atop of a thin CuO layer, as confirmed by microscopy, diffraction, and spectroscopy analyses.

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transitions (EMTs) and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling are distinct yet important processes during carcinoma invasion and metastasis. Transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) and RAS, signaling through SMAD and RAS-responsive element-binding protein 1 (RREB1), jointly trigger expression of EMT and fibrogenic factors as two discrete arms of a common transcriptional response in carcinoma cells. Here, we demonstrate that both arms come together to form a program for lung adenocarcinoma metastasis and identify chromatin determinants tying the expression of the constituent genes to TGF-β and RAS inputs.

Among the many methods to image molecular structure, laser-induced electron diffraction (LIED) can image a single gas-phase molecule by locating all of a molecule's atoms in space and time. The method is based on attosecond electron recollision driven by a laser field and can reach attosecond temporal resolution. Implementation with a mid-IR laser and cold-target recoil ion-momentum spectroscopy, single molecules are measured with picometer resolution due to the keV electron impact energy without ensemble averaging or the need for molecular orientation.

Alkyne-functionalized oxetanes are presented as versatile substrates that in combination with amine reagents can be transformed into structurally diverse, chiral γ-amino alcohols featuring a tetrasubstituted tertiary stereocenter under Cu catalysis. Control experiments demonstrate the privileged nature of these oxetane precursors in terms of yield and asymmetric induction levels in the developed protocol, and postsynthetic modifications offer an easy way to access more advanced synthons.

Theropithecus gelada, the last surviving species of this genus, occupy a unique and highly specialised ecological niche in the Ethiopian highlands. A subdivision into three geographically defined populations (Northern, Central and Southern) has been tentatively proposed for this species on the basis of genetic analyses, but genomic data have been investigated only for two of these groups (Northern and Central). Here we combined newly generated whole genome sequences of individuals sampled from the population living south of the East Africa Great Rift Valley with available data from the other two gelada populations to reconstruct the evolutionary history of the species.

Encapsulation of transition metals represents a crucial method for modifying the electronic structure and regulating the reactivity of fullerene, thereby expanding its applications. Herein, we present calculations with density functional theory methods to investigate the mechanisms of the Diels-Alder (DA) reactions of cyclopentadiene and La@C or Gd@C as well as their tricationic derivatives. Our findings indicate that the encapsulation of La and Gd into the C cage is thermodynamically favorable.

Motivation: Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data are widely used to study cancer cell states and their heterogeneity. However, the tumour microenvironment is usually a mixture of healthy and cancerous cells and it can be difficult to fully separate these two populations based on transcriptomics alone. If available, somatic single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) observed in the scRNA-seq data could be used to identify the cancer population and match that information with the single cells' expression profile.

We demonstrate that nucleosomes placed in the gene body can be accurately located from signal decay theory assuming two emitters located at the beginning and at the end of genes. These generated wave signals can be in phase (leading to well defined nucleosome arrays) or in antiphase (leading to fuzzy nucleosome architectures). We found that the first (+1) and the last (-last) nucleosomes are contiguous to regions signaled by transcription factor binding sites and unusual DNA physical properties that hinder nucleosome wrapping.

The lateral organization of proteins and lipids in the plasma membrane is fundamental to regulating a wide range of cellular processes. Compartmentalized ordered membrane domains enriched with specific lipids, often termed lipid rafts, have been shown to modulate the physicochemical and mechanical properties of membranes and to drive protein sorting. Novel methods and tools enabling the visualization, characterization, and/or manipulation of membrane compartmentalization are crucial to link the properties of the membrane with cell functions.

Herein, we present a new computational methodology that unlocks the prediction of the complex multi-species multi-equilibria processes involved in the formation of complex metal-oxo nanoclusters. Relying on our recently introduced method named POMSimulator, we extended its capabilities and challenged its accuracy with the well-known phosphomolybdate [PMoO] Keggin anion system. We show how the use of statistical techniques enabled the processing of a vast number of speciation models and their associated systems of non-linear equations efficiently and in a scalable manner.

Energy transfer (EnT) photocatalysis holds the potential to revolutionize synthetic chemistry, unlocking the excited-state reactivity of non-chromophoric compounds indirect sensitization. This strategy gives access to synthetic routes to valuable molecular scaffolds that are otherwise inaccessible through ground-state pathways. Despite the promising nature of this chemistry, it still represents a largely uncharted area for computational chemistry, hindering the development of structure-activity relationships and design rules to rationally exploit the potential of EnT photocatalysis.

Alternative splicing is crucial for cancer progression and can be targeted pharmacologically, yet identifying driver exons genome-wide remains challenging. We propose identifying such exons by associating statistically gene-level cancer dependencies from knockdown viability screens with splicing profiles and gene expression. Our models predict the effects of splicing perturbations on cell proliferation from transcriptomic data, enabling in silico RNA screening and prioritizing targets for splicing-based therapies.

Bone regeneration often fails due to implants/grafts lacking vascular supply, causing necrotic tissue and poor integration. Microsurgical techniques are used to overcome this issue, allowing the graft to anastomose. These techniques have limitations, including severe patient morbidity and current research focuses on stimulating angiogenesis in situ using growth factors, presenting limitations, such as a lack of control and increased costs.
