Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzes the timing and methods for treating prostatic abscesses (PAs) in 18 patients treated between February 2017 and July 2022.
  • It found that 14 out of 17 patients who underwent transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided aspiration had complete resolution, while one patient recovered after a spontaneous rupture.
  • For recurrent cases, transurethral (TU) de-roofing was effective and could be recommended as a primary treatment for certain types of PAs to reduce treatment duration and costs.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is among the most common deadly tumors but still lacks specific biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment guidance. The COP9 signalosome (COPS) is an essential regulator of the ubiquitin conjugation pathway upregulated in various cancers. We evaluated the contributions of COPS subunits to HCC tumorigenesis and their utility for prognosis.

Metastasis-associated 1 (MTA1), a subunit of the nucleosome remodeling and histone deacetylation (NuRD) corepressor complex, was reported to be expressed in the cytoplasm of skeletal muscles. However, the exact subcellular localization and the functional implications of MTA1 in skeletal muscles have not been examined. This study aims to demonstrate the subcellular localization of MTA1 in skeletal muscles and reveal its possible roles in skeletal muscle pathogenesis.

Background And Importance: Dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVFs) with cortical venous reflux (CVR) are associated with a higher incidence of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). We report a rare case of a complex torcular dAVF with severe cortical veins (CV) varix leading to extensive bilateral cerebral hemorrhages. This discovery suggests a potential new subtype of dAVF.

In this paper, the anti-cancer activity and molecular mechanisms of the isomers of AD-1 and AD-2 (20()-AD-1, 20()-AD-2, 20()-AD-1 and 20()-AD-2) were investigated. The results indicated that all of the four compounds obviously suppressed the viability of various cancer cells, and the anti-cancer activity of 20()-AD-1 and 20()-AD-2 was significantly better than 20()-AD-1 and 20()-AD-2, especially for gastric cancer cells (BGC-803). Then, the differences in the anti-cancer mechanisms of the isomers were investigated.

MTA1 localizes to the mitotic spindle apparatus and interacts with TPR in spindle assembly checkpoint regulation.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

October 2023

State Key Laboratory of Molecular Oncology, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100021, China. Electronic address:

We previously identified a cell cycle-dependent periodic subcellular distribution of cancer metastasis-associated antigen 1 (MTA1) and unraveled a novel role of MTA1 in inhibiting spindle damage-induced spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) activation in cancer cells. However, the more detailed subcellular localization of MTA1 in mitotic cells and its copartner in SAC regulation in cancer cells are still poorly understood. Here, through immunofluorescent colocalization analysis of MTA1 and alpha-tubulin in mitotic cancer cells, we reveal that MTA1 is dynamically localized to the spindle apparatus throughout the entire mitotic process.

Genome-wide association studies have identified numerous single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with lung cancer; however, the functions of histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) rs13213007 and HDAC2 in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain unclear. Here we identified HDAC2 rs13213007 as a risk SNP and showed that HDAC2 was upregulated in both peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and NSCLC tissues with the rs13213007 A/A genotype compared with those with the rs13213007 G/G or G/A genotype. Patient clinical data indicated strong associations between rs13213007 genotype and N classification.

TATA-box-binding protein promotes hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis through epithelial-mesenchymal transition.

Hepatol Commun

July 2023

Key Laboratory of Resource Biology and Biotechnology in Western China, Ministry of Education, School of Medicine, Northwest University, Shaanxi, Xi'an, China.

Background: HCC characterizes malignant metastasis with high incidence and recurrence. Thus, it is pivotal to discover the mechanisms of HCC metastasis. TATA-box-binding protein (TBP), a general transcriptional factor (TF), couples with activators and chromatin remodelers to sustain the transcriptional activity of target genes.

Background: Accumulating evidence suggests that anoikis plays a crucial role in the onset and progression of pancreatic cancer (PC) and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs); nevertheless, the prognostic value and molecular characteristics of anoikis in cancers are yet to be determined.

Materials And Methods: We gathered and collated the multi-omics data of several human malignancies using the TCGA pan-cancer cohorts. We thoroughly investigated the genomics and transcriptomics features of anoikis in pan-cancer.

Background: Mitochondria are significant both for cellular energy production and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species formation. However, the significant functions of mitochondrial genes related to oxidative stress (MTGs-OS) in pancreatic cancer (PC) and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (PNET) are yet to be investigated integrally. Therefore, in pan-cancer, particularly PC and PNET, a thorough assessment of the MTGs-OS is required.

In the field of orthopedics, defects in large bones have proven challenging to resolve. The aim of the present study was to address this problem through the combination of tantalum metal (pTa) with exosomes derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), which have the potential to enhance regeneration of full thickness femoral bone defects in rats. Cell culture results demonstrated that exosomes improved the proliferation and differentiation of BMSCs.

Objective: The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the postoperative clinical outcomes of elderly patients who underwent the direct anterior approach (DAA) versus those who received posterolateral approach (PLA) for total hip arthroplasty (THA) in the treatment of femoral neck fractures.

Methods: An electronic search was conducted in databases including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and CNKI from their inception to January 2022. We calculated the odds ratio (OR) and mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to assess the effect of DAA compared to PLA for the management of total hip arthroplasty (THA) in elderly patients using the dichotomous or continuous method with a random or fixed-effect model.
