The aim of the present study was to analyze the selenoprotein expression levels in gastric cancer patients. We enrolled 40 patients (29 males, 11 females) who were recently diagnosed with gastric cancer and 50 healthy people (30 males, 20 females) as controls. The expression of 25 selenoprotein genes (Dio1, Dio2, Dio3, Gpx1, Gpx2, Gpx3, Gpx4, Gpx6, SelH, SelI, SelK, SelM, SelN, SelO, SelP, SelS, SelT, SelV, SelW, SelX, Sel15, Sps2, TR1, TR2, and TR3) in human gastric cancer tissues, para-carcinoma tissues, adjacent normal gastric tissues, erythrocytes, and lymphocytes in the gastric cancer group and healthy control group was analyzed by qRT-PCR.

The elderly colon cancer (CC) patients are increasing and represent a heterogeneous patient group. The objectives of this study were to identify the features of lymph node examination and to explore the optimal minimum lymph node count after CC resection for patients aged ≥80. Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, we identified 65719 CC patients in stage I-III between 2004 and 2012, 26.

Heme oxygenase (HO) is the rate-limiting enzyme in heme metabolism. HO-1 exhibits anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory function via the actions of its metabolite, respectively. A growing body of evidence demonstrates that HO-1 is implicated in the pathogenesis and progression of several types of cancer.

Aims: The aims were to investigate the serum free fatty acid (FFA) and esterified fatty acid (EFA) profiles and to identify biomarkers that can be used to identify patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) based on the metabolomics approach.
Methods: We applied a targeted gas chromatography-mass spectrometry metabolomics approach to serum samples from 40 EOC patients and 35 healthy controls for achieving the FFA and EFA profiles. These metabolite profiles were processed using multivariate analysis to obtain potential biomarkers.

Lin28A and Lin28B are highly conserved RNA binding proteins with similar structure and functions. Recent studies demonstrated that both of them act as oncogenes and promote cancer progression. However, few researches compared the expression and functions of both oncogenes in human malignant tumors at same time.

Ephrin Type-A Receptor 3 (EphA3) belongs to the ephrin receptor subfamily of the protein tyrosine kinase family, and plays an important role in embryogenesis and neurogenesis. This study aimed to investigate the role of EphA3 in promoting malignant transformation of colorectal epithelial cells, and explore underlying molecular mechanisms. Colorectal cancer tissue specimens from 68 patients were analyzed for EphA3 expression.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to predict the key genes and pathways associated with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).
Methods: Based on the microarray data of GSE3467 from Gene Expression Omnibus database, we identified the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between 9 PTC samples and 9 normal controls. With the identified DEGs, functional enrichment analyses were performed.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most deadly gynecologic malignancy worldwide due to its high recurrence rate after surgery and chemotherapy. There is a critical need for discovery of novel biomarkers for EOC recurrence providing higher prediction power than that of the present ones. Lipids have been reported to associate with development and progression of cancer.

Protocadherins (PCDHs) are a group of transmembrane proteins belonging to the cadherin superfamily and are subdivided into "clustered" and "non-clustered" groups. PCDHs vary in both structure and interaction partners and thus regulate multiple biological responses in complex and versatile patterns. Previous researches showed that PCDHs regulated the development of brain and were involved in some neuronal diseases.

Background: Platinum-based chemotherapy is emerging as the first line of treatment for castration resistant prostate cancer. Among the family of platinum (IV)-based compounds, a member known as CPA-7 inhibits the growth of multiple cancer cell lines. However, how and to what extent CPA-7 elicits its anti-prostate cancer effects in vivo is largely unknown.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer. Large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been performed and reported some novel CRC susceptibility variants in European ancestry including the CDH1 rs9929218. Following GWAS and candidate studies evaluated the association between the CDH1 rs9929218 polymorphism and CRC in European, Asian and American populations.

The erythropoietin-producing hepatocyte (Eph) family tyrosine kinases play important roles in tumorigenesis and cancer aggression. In this study, we investigated the role of EphB6 in oncogenic transformation of colorectal epithelial cells in vitro and in vivo. EphB6 is upregulated in human colorectal cancer (CRC) tissues as compared to normal tissues, and its overexpression promotes proliferation, migration and invasion by IMCE colorectal adenoma cells, in which one Apc allele is mutated.

The aim of this work was to elucidate the antitumor effect of BCE and the signal transduction pathways involved. MTT test results revealed that the viability of MKN-45 and TE-1 cells treated with BCE gradually decreased in a concentration-dependent manner, with significant effects achieved after 12 h of treatment.

The overall biological role and clinical significance of long non-coding RNA H19 in colorectal cancer (CRC) remain largely unknown. Here, we firstly report that the lncRNA H19 recruits eIF4A3 and promotes the CRC cell proliferation. We observed higher expression of H19 was significantly correlated with tumor differentiation and advanced TNM stage in a cohort of 83 CRC patients.

Detection of breast cancer at an early stage is the key for successful treatment and improvement of outcome. However the limitations of mammography are well recognized, especially for those women with premenopausal breast cancer. Novel approaches to breast cancer screening are necessary, especially in the developing world where mammography is not feasible.

Rationale And Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of 18-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ((18)F-FDG PET/CT) volume-metabolic combined parameters in patients with cervical carcinoma.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 91 consecutive patients' whole-body FDG-PET/CT images, and further measured and calculated FDG PET/CT volume-metabolic parameters, including cervical metabolic tumor volume (CMTV), cervical total lesion glycolysis (CTLG), whole-body metabolic tumor volume (WB-MTV), whole-body total lesions glycolysis (WB-TLG). The prognostic value of these tumor volume-metabolic measures was assessed by Cox Proportional Hazard Regression Analysis.

MicroRNA-181 (miR-181) has been recently demonstrated to participate in the differentiation and development of immune cells, including natural killer cells and B and T lymphocytes, and myeloid linages, including erythroid and megakaryocytic cells. The aberrant expression of miR-181, particularly low expression levels, has been observed in a number of leukemia types, including B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia and cytogenetically abnormal acute myeloid leukemia. However, the expression and function of miR-181 in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) remains unknown.
