Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) ranks first for mortality among all malignancies. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is one of the main types of NSCLC. Previous studies have found that fibroblast growth factor 9 () is closely related to lung SCC via different molecular regulatory mechanisms.

Transcription factor 7-like 2 gene- smoking interaction on the risk of diabetic nephropathy in Chinese Han population.

Objectives: To evaluate the relationship between transcription factor 7-like 2 (TCF7L2) gene polymorphism and diabetic nephropathy (DN) risk, as well as the effect of gene-environment interactions on DN risk in Chinese Han population.

Methods: The Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) and the relationship between TCF7L2 gene single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) and DN susceptibility were evaluated by SNPStats. The interaction among four SNPs and environmental factors were tested by generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR).

The present study aimed to compare the prevalence and associated factors of anxiety between high-risk and low-risk nurses 1 year after the COVID-19 outbreak, and examine the association between resilience and anxiety and its underlying mechanisms. Connor-Davidson Resilience scale, Perceived Social Support Scale and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale were administrated to 701 nurses from Jiangsu Province, China, 1 year after the COVID-19 outbreak.

We hypothesize that reducing macrophage-mediated inflammation in the injured tendon by regulating M1 to M2 macrophage polarization may effectively inhibit adhesion formation.

Background: Waste anesthetic gases (WAGs) leaked from new-type halogenated inhalational anesthetics such as sevoflurane have been were reported to pose a risk for the health of operating room personnel. The effects of WAGs on peripheral blood lymphocytes, however, remain yet controversial. The present study was undertaken to examine the effects of occupational sevoflurane exposure on the peripheral blood lymphocytes of medical personnel who work in the operating room.

Artificial intelligence prediction model for overall survival of clear cell renal cell carcinoma based on a 21-gene molecular prognostic score system.

We developed and validated a new prognostic model for predicting the overall survival in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) patients. In this study, artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms including random forest and neural network were trained to build a molecular prognostic score (mPS) system. Afterwards, we investigated the potential mechanisms underlying mPS by assessing gene set enrichment analysis, mutations, copy number variations (CNVs) and immune cell infiltration.

Effects of Self-Assisted Shoulder Elevation of the Affected Side Combined with Balance Training on Associated Reactions of Upper Limb and Walking Function in Chronic Stroke Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND Associated reactions of the upper limb are frequently seen in stroke patients, especially during dynamic activities, such as walking. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of a method to inhibit the affected upper limb flexors combined with balance training on associated reactions of the affected upper limb and walking function in chronic stroke patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS 60 patients were randomly allocated into 3 groups (n=20 per group): control group (no upper limb intervention), back group (the unaffected hand assists the affected upper limb in the low back and keep it in an extended position) and shoulder elevation group using the inhibition method (the unaffected hand assists the affected shoulder to elevate above 90°).

Risk of Death in Colorectal Cancer Patients with Multi-morbidities of Metabolic Syndrome: A Retrospective Multicohort Analysis.

Purpose: The prevalence of multi-morbidities with colorectal cancer (CRC) is known to be increasing. Particularly prognosis of CRC patients co-diagnosed with metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) was largely unknown. We aimed to examine the death risk of CRC patients according to the multiple MetSyn morbidities.

Ankle arthroscopy-assisted closed reduction in Bosworth fracture dislocation.

The Bosworth fracture dislocation is a rare type of ankle fracture and is usually unrecognized on initial radiographs, therefore early open reduction is recommended. This study reports a 51-year-old female with uncommon imaging and clinical features. Preoperative X-ray, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging of the ankle showed posterior detached dislocation of the intact distal fibula, the loose osteochondral fragments located in the tibiotalar joint, and the rupture of the deltoid ligament.

Anti-inflammatory effects of vinpocetine in LPS-stimulated microglia via activation of AMPK.

Microglia are the resident immune cells in the central nervous system (CNS), which play important roles in the repair of neuroinflammatory injury. The present study investigated the anti-neuroinflammatory effects of vinpocetine induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in BV2 microglia. BV2 microglia were pretreated with vinpocetine, and then stimulated with LPS (100 ng/mL).

The present study aimed to investigate the function of long non-coding RNA HEIH in gastric carcinoma (GC). Adjacent normal tissues and GC tissues were obtained from 72 patients. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was utilized to measure the expression of HEIH in cancer tissues and cells.

Here, we show that mitochondrial fragmentation contributes to PASMC dysfunction through enhancement of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress.

Benefit and risk of adding rivaroxaban in patients with coronary artery disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Although the European Medicines Agency and the US Food and Drug Administration have, respectively, approved rivaroxaban for the prevention of recurrent major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with myocardial infarction and stable coronary artery disease, its efficacy and safety is unclear. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the benefit and risk of adding rivaroxaban in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients, focusing on treatment effects stratified by different baseline clinical presentations.

Hypothesis: There are differences in treatment effects of adding rivaroxaban among CAD patients with different baseline clinical presentations.

Correlation Between Quantitative Assessment of Chest Computed Tomography (CT) Imaging and Prognosis of COVID-19 Patients.

BACKGROUND The aim of our work was to evaluate the correlation between the quantitative parameters of the peak lesion to 25% improvement time (PIT25) and the prognosis of new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) patients by analyzing the changes of chest CT imaging. MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective analysis included 68 patients with COVID-19 in the Fifth People's Hospital of Suzhou City. Three radiologists performed a blind evaluation of 4 chest CT images that included the initial scans, the lesion peak, the lesion decreased to 25% of the peak, and the final scan.

LINC00518 Interference Inhibits Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer by Upregulating miR216b-5p Expression.

Introduction: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for the majority of lung cancer cases, and effective treatment for this disease is still lacking. This study aimed to explore the potential role of LINC00518 and miR216b-5p on cell proliferation and tumor growth in NSCLC.

Methods: The expression of LINC00518, miR216b-5p, MMP7, and MMP9 in NSCLC cell lines was determined by RT-qPCR analysis, which was also used to confirm the transfection effects.

Objective: The pulmonary function test is an effort-dependent test; however, during acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD), patients are unable to effectively cooperate due to poor health. The present study aimed to establish prediction models that only require demographic and inflammatory parameters to predict pulmonary function indexes: forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV) and forced vital capacity (FVC).

BRD4 inhibition sensitizes renal cell carcinoma cells to the PI3K/mTOR dual inhibitor VS-5584.

Activation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway promotes the progression of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). This study tested the anti-RCC cell activity of the PI3K/mTOR dual inhibitor, VS-5584. We show that VS-5584 inhibited PI3K/AKT/mTORC1/2 activation in established (786-O and A498 lines) and primary RCC cells, thereby suppressing cell survival, proliferation, migration and cell cycle progression.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between microRNA-107 (miR-107) expression level and the prognosis in colorectal cancer patients with its clinical significance. 80 cases of cancer tissues and 15 cases of adjacent cancer tissues were collected from colorectal cancer patients treated with surgery from February 2006 to January 2010.
