Introduction: Poor interfacial bonding between the fibers and resin matrix in fiber-reinforced composites (FRCs) is a significant drawback of the composites. To enhance the mechanical properties of FRC, fibers were modified by depositing SiO nanofilms via the atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique. This study aims to evaluate the effect of ALD treatment of the fibers on the mechanical properties of the FRCs.

Studies have revealed a possible connection between orexin, narcolepsy, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Orexin has an important role in the maintenance of arousal and wakefulness/sleeping states. To better understand the pathophysiological mechanism of OSA, we used a chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) model in mice to mimic OSA.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory and odontoblastic effects of cerium-containing mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (Ce-MBGNs) on dental pulp cells as novel pulp-capping agents.
Methodology: Ce-MBGNs were synthesized using a post-impregnation strategy based on the antioxidant properties of Ce ions and proposed the first use of Ce-MBGNs for pulp-capping application. The biocompatibility of Ce-MBGNs was analysed using the CCK-8 assay and apoptosis detection.

Background: Cellular senescence significantly associates with tumor initiation, progression, and therapeutic response across multiple cancers. Here, we sought to develop a novel senescence-related genes (SRGs)-derived signature for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) prognostication and therapeutic response prediction.
Methods: OSCC-specific SRG prognostic signature was established with univariate Cox regression, Kaplan-Meier survival, and LASSO-penalized multivariate Cox regression analyses.

Background: The role of thyroid health in temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) has been emphasized in observational studies. However, whether the causation exists is unclear, and controversy remains about which specific disorder, such as hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, is destructive in TMDs. This study aims to investigate the overall and specific causal effects of various thyroid conditions on TMDs.

This investigation aimed to detect potential critical genes and molecular mechanisms underlying interactions between PD and OSA through bioinformatics analyses.
Methods: The Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database was employed to obtain the expression profiles GSE20163 and GSE135917.

Clinical solutions of bone defects caused by periodontitis involve surgical treatment and subsequent anti-infection treatment using antibiotics. Such a strategy faces a key challenge in that the excessive host immune response results in the damage of periodontal tissues. Consequently, it is of great importance to develop novel periodontitis treatment that allows the regulation of the host immune response and promotes the generation of periodontal tissues.

In the case of a large bone defect, the human endogenous electrical field is no longer sufficient. Therefore, it is necessary to support structural electrical bone scaffolds. Barium titanate (BT) has received much attention in bone tissue engineering applications due to its biocompatibility and ability to maintain charged surfaces.

Background: As one of the most important indicators of socioeconomic status, educational attainment (EA) exhibits a strong association with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). Despite this link, there is a lack of evidence regarding the causal role of EA in either facilitating or preventing TMDs.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the causal effect of education on TMDs and explore potential mediating pathways.

Loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus) is a common freshwater commercial fish species in China. The meat of this fish is a good source of protein and other nutrients that are needed for human health. Aquaculture challenges such as diseases and pest susceptibility, excessive density, and nutritional deficiency result in low production of loach rather than increased demand.

Background: The vulnerability of hippocampal pyramidal (PY) neurons played a key role in the onset of cognitive impairment. Multiple researches revealed that neuroinflammation together with microglia activation and parvalbumin (PV) interneurons participated in the pathogenesis of cognitive dysfunction. However, the underlying mechanism was still unclear.

Diabetes mellitus hinders the process of bone regeneration by inhibiting the function of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) through elevated glucose levels, thereby impeding osteointegration. The stem cell niche (SCN) plays a crucial role in determining the fate of stem cells by integrating various signals. However, the precise mechanism by which high glucose levels affect the SCN and subsequently influence the function of MSCs remains unclear.

Antibiotics can kill bacteria, but their continued use can easily lead to drug resistance, particularly the main pathogenic bacteria of periodontitis, . However, to avoid drug resistance, carbon quantum dots (CDs) have great potential as a bioactive material in antimicrobial therapy. Herein, we use ornidazole as raw material to prepare CDs of different sizes by microwave irradiation and screen CDs with fluorescence and bacteriostatic properties.

Background: Endosseous implants are widely used as a treatment for tooth loss, but gaps in the implant-abutment interface, and the cavity inside the implant, can cause inflammation of the tissue surrounding the implant. Currently available filling materials, however, cannot solve these problems. Therefore, the development of new antibacterial materials is key.

Background: Microglial activation in the spinal trigeminal nucleus (STN) plays a crucial role in the development of trigeminal neuralgia (TN). The involvement of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor 1 (NMDAR1, NR1) in TN has been established. Initial evidence suggests that stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) have a potential therapeutic effect in attenuating TN.

The purpose of this study was to determine potential metabolic biomarkers and therapeutic drugs in the gingival tissue of individuals with periodontitis. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) were used to analyze the gingival tissue samples from 20 patients with severe periodontitis and 20 healthy controls. Differential metabolites were identified using variable important in projection (VIP) values from the orthogonal partial least squares discrimination analysis (OPLS-DA) model and then verified for significance between groups using a two-tailed Student's test.

Congenital cleft lip and palate is one of the common deformities in the craniomaxillofacial region. The current study aimed to explore the perceptual pattern of cleft-related speech produced by Mandarin-speaking patients with repaired cleft palate using the task-based functional magnetic resonance imaging (task-fMRI) technique. Three blocks of speech stimuli, including hypernasal speech, the glottal stop, and typical speech, were played to 30 typical adult listeners with no history of cleft palate speech exploration.
