Maxillofacial injuries that may cause severe functional and aesthetic damage require effective and immediate management due to continuous exposure to diverse microbial populations. Moreover, drug resistance, biofilm formation, and oxidative stress significantly impede timely bacterial removal and immune function, making the exploration of advanced materials for maxillofacial wound healing an appealing yet highly challenging task. Herein, a near-infrared photothermal sterilization agent was designed, encapsulated with liposomes and coated with ascorbic acid known for its antioxidant and immune-regulatory functions.

Delayed tooth extraction socket (TES) healing can cause failure of subsequent oral implantation and increase socioeconomic burden on patients. Excessive amounts of M1 macrophages, apoptotic neutrophils (ANs), and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) impair alveolar bone regeneration during TES healing. In the present study, we first discovered that conditioned medium (CM) collected from berberine-treated human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BBR-HB-CM) accelerated TES healing.

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) within the tumor microenvironment (TME) play a crucial role in glioblastoma (GBM) progression by interacting with glioma stem cells (GSCs). These interactions lead to the polarization of TAMs toward an M2 phenotype, which, in turn, enhances the stem-like traits and malignant progression of GSCs. Our study shows that FSTL1, a protein released by GSCs, is significantly elevated in gliomas and linked to the progression of the disease.

Four to eight percent of patients with head and neck cancer will develop osteoradionecrosis of the jaw (ORNJ) after radiotherapy. Various radiation-induced tissue injuries are associated with reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) overproduction. Herein, Fe doping is used in VO (Fe-VO) nanozymes with multienzyme activities for ORNJ treatment via RONS scavenging.

Background: Human periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) are widely available and have strong osteogenic differentiation ability, which makes them promising tools for bone regeneration. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play a variety of functions in the process of cell differentiation and are potential therapeutic targets. Here, we identified a new circRNA, circ-SPATA13, and found that it was highly positively correlated with the osteogenic differentiation of PDLSCs.

Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a widely used clinical method for bone augmentation that features a barrier membrane that prevents soft tissue interference with osteogenesis. However, the most used collagen membranes and bone granules often struggle to maintain a stable bone formation space and create a microenvironment conducive to bone regeneration. In this study, a multifunctional bioadhesive (nSF@TA) is obtained from the reaction between nanofiber fibroin (nSF) and tannic acid (TA), which exhibits excellent wet adhesion properties on various substances and maintains a stable osteogenic space through tissue integration.

Since the diseases that cause bone defects are mostly inflammatory diseases, the current bone grafts are unable to effectively regulate osteoimmune activity, leading to the impaired osteogenesis and unfavorable bone regeneration. In this study, inspired by bone composition, biomimetic mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticle (MBG)/bovine serum albumin (BSA) bone grafts are designed for inflammatory bone defects. Systematically, MBG/BSA bone grafts are evaluated for characterization, bioactivity, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant activity, and osteogenic activity.
