The present work was performed to clarify the role of TATA-binding protein (TBP) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). TBP expression in adjacent liver tissues and HCC tissue sample was detected by immunohistochemistry and qRT-PCR. With CCK-8, BrdU, flow cytometry, and transwell assays, the malignancy of cancer cell lines were evaluated.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are critical regulators of lung adenocarcinoma (LA) progression. Although a molecular marker targeting hsa_circ_0000018 has been developed and used for diagnosing colon cancer, the role of this circRNA in LA progression has not been explored till now.
Objectives: This study aimed to elucidate the role and regulatory mechanisms of hsa_circ_0000018 in LA progression.

Compelling evidence indicates the regulatory role of circular RNAs in cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our study aimed to elucidate the regulatory function of circ_0129047 in HCC progression. A reverse transcription-quantitative polymeric chain reaction was conducted to detect the expression of circ_0129047, lymphatic vessel endothelial hyaluronan receptor-1 (LYVE1), and miR-492 in HCC tissues and cells.

We investigated the effects of vitamin A (VA) status on metabolism of Zucker rats with different genders and genotypes, and of short-term refeeding of a VA sufficient (VAS) diet on VA deficient (VAD) animals. First, male and female Zucker lean (ZL) and fatty (ZF) rats at weaning were fed a VAD or VAS diet for 8 weeks. Second, male VAD ZL rats were fed a VAS diet for 3 (VAD-VAS3d) or 7 (VAD-VAS7d) days.

It was reported that the urotensin II (U-II) level in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients are significantly higher than in controls. To provide future guidance for the management of cardiovascular risk factors in IBD patients, the sample size of the current study appears to be limited, and more clinical samples to compare U-II levels in IBD patients and controls are needed. This will clarify the possible roles of inflammation factors and related signaling pathways (like EPK1/2, NF-κB and Rho/ROCK) in the pathophysiology of IBD.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has a low five-year survival rate, and its pathogenesis remains unclear. There is an urgent need to improve our understanding of the genetic regulation of NPC tumorigenesis and development. The role of miR-26a-5p in NPC growth regulation and the expression of its target, PTGS2, was analyzed.

MicroRNA-451a (miR-451a) has been implicated in the initiation and progression of multiple cancers. However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying its function in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) are poorly understood. Thus, we investigated in detail the role of the microRNA-451a/chromosome segregation 1-like (miR-45a/CSE1L) axis and its regulatory mechanism in NPC.

Autophagy, a well-observed intracellular lysosomal degradation process, is particularly important to the cell viability in diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). Peroxidasin (PXDN) is a heme-containing peroxidase that augments oxidative stress and plays an essential role in cardiovascular diseases, while whether PXDN contributes to the pathogenesis of DCM remains unknown. Here we reported the suppression of cell viability and autophagic flux, as shown by autophagosomes accumulation and increased expression level of LC3-II and p62 in cultured H9C2 and human AC16 cells that treated with 400 μM palmitate acid (PA) for 24 h.

Tephrosin is a natural rotenoid isoflavonoid that has been shown to have potent anticancer activities. In this study, we reported the anticancer activity of tephrosin against pancreatic cancer cells. Tephrosin potently suppressed cell viability in various cancer cell lines and promoted apoptosis of PANC-1 and SW1990 pancreatic cancer cells evidenced by enhanced cleavage of caspase-3/-9 and PARP.

Recently, research data have shown that vitamin A (VA, retinol) as a micronutrient participates in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism. Since diabetes is a metabolic disease, it is imperative to reveal the relationship of VA and diabetes. This review was aimed to summarize the current understanding of VA and its metabolites in diabetes.

Outer inflammatory protein (OipA) is an important virulence factor of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), but the correlation between oipA copy number and its virulence remains unknown. The study was designed to investigate whether the duplicate oipA gene loci showed more virulent than one oipA gene in vitro.

BACKGROUND Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), which is characterized by enlarged ventricular dimensions and systolic dysfunction, is the most common type of cardiomyopathy. Mutations in the LMNA gene are reported in approximately 10% of familial DCM cases. However, the mechanism of LMNA mutations in human DCM remains unclear.

Combination therapy is emerging as a preferable approach in cancer therapy with minimized side effects and elevated performance. Nevertheless, the poor targeting and drug loading of currently available drug delivery systems (DDSs) are the main difficulties to realize preferable combination therapy of cancer. As a result, a cancer cell membrane-decorated zeolitic-imidazolate framework hybrid nanoparticle (HP) was successfully constructed in our study to codeliver cisplatin (DDP) and oleanolic acid (OLA).

The use of low-dose aspirin (LDA) has been a common preventive measure to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. This is attributed to aspirin's ability to inhibit platelet activation. On the other hand, the use of LDA in human subjects has been associated with the development of gastrointestinal injuries like ulcer and bleeding, especially for those sensitive subjects such as elder human subjects.

Itraconazole is an FDA-approved antifungal agent, which has been reported to possess promising anticancer activities in recent years. This study investigates the antiproliferative effects of itraconazole on pancreatic cancer cells and the molecular mechanism of its apoptosis-inducing effects. In this study, our results showed that itraconazole inhibited the growth of pancreatic cancer cells in vitro, and it also significantly inhibited the tumor growth of CFPAC-1 xenografts in vivo.
