Hydrogen inhalation therapy regulates lactic acid metabolism following subarachnoid hemorrhage through the HIF-1α pathway.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

June 2023

Department of Neurosurgery, Affiliated Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, China. Electronic address:

The neuroprotective effects of hydrogen have been demonstrated, but the mechanism is still poorly understood. In a clinical trial of inhaled hydrogen in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), we found that hydrogen reduced the accumulation of lactic acid in the nervous system. There are no studies demonstrating the regulatory effect of hydrogen on lactate and in this study we hope to further clarify the mechanism by which hydrogen regulates lactate metabolism.

SNP rs3803264 polymorphisms in and abnormally expressed mRNA are associated with hemorrhagic stroke.

Front Aging Neurosci

April 2023

Department of Epidemiology, Center of Global Health, School of Public Health, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China.

Background: Thrombospondin Type 1 Domain Containing Protein 1 (THSD1) has been suggested to be a new regulator of endothelial barrier function in the angiogenesis process, preserving vascular integrity. We sought to characterize the association of genetic variants and mRNA expression with the risk of hemorrhagic stroke (HS) with population-based evidence.

Methods: A case-control study was conducted with 843 HS cases and 1,400 healthy controls.

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus primarily transmitted through sexual contact. Little is known about the association between HPV infection or immunization and the risk for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether HPV infection or immunization is related to the risk for RA in adults.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been uncovered to be implicated in the malignant development of bladder cancer (BC).

Objective: Herein, this work aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of circRNA ubiquitin-associated protein 2 (circUBAP2) in BC progression.

Design Setting And Participants: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting were used for the detection of genes and proteins.

Background: Nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the main type of lung cancer, accounting for approximately 85%. Berberine (BBR), a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine, has been reported to exhibit a potential antitumor effect in various cancers. In this research, we explored the function of BBR and its underlying mechanisms in the development of NSCLC.

Sevoflurane (SEV), usually causing neuronal damage and cognitive dysfunction, is one of the most commonly used anesthetics in clinical practice. However, the function of Trim47 in SEV-induced neuronal impairment remains elusive. The aim of this study was to study the effect of knocking down Trim47 on the nerve injury induced by SEV.

As an autoimmune disorder, vitiligo is characterized by depigmented skin macules. CD8T cells and macrophages enrichment promote the onset of vitiligo, while the role of macrophages to CD8T is not well deciphered. To develop a mouse model of vitiligo with prominent epidermal depigmentation, Krt14-Kitl* transgenic mice containing an elevated number of melanocytes in the epidermis with membrane-bound Kit ligand (Kitl*) were adoptively transferred with premelanosome protein (PMEL) CD8 T cells.

Penconazole (PEN) is a typical systemic triazole fungicide with cardiac toxic effects. Resveratrol (RES) is a natural polyphenolic phytochemical with antioxidation properties. This study aimed to investigate if RES could protect against PEN-induced cardiotoxicity and to determine the underlying mechanisms.

Lung cancer is rare in young people, but the incidence and mortality are on the rise. We retrospectively analyzed the data of young patients aged ≤45 years diagnosed as lung cancer in our hospital from 2014 to 2021. The purpose was to explore the clinicopathological characteristics of young patients, and the risk factors affecting overall survival (OS) time.

Objective: Early gastric cardia adenocarcinoma (EGCA) is a highly heterogeneous cancer, and the understanding of its classification and malignant progression is limited. This study explored the cellular and molecular heterogeneity in EGCA using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq).

Design: scRNA-seq was conducted on 95 551 cells from endoscopic biopsies of low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia, well/moderately/poorly differentiated EGCA and their paired adjacent nonmalignant biopsy samples.

Introduction: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are related to the pathogenesis and progression of bladder cancer (BC). This research aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of hsa_circ_0008035 (circ_0008035) in BC progression.

Methods: Circ_0008035, microRNA (miR)-1,184, and Ras-related protein 2B (RAP2B) levels were examined in BC via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting.

Background: Esophageal cancer (EC) is a global health problem. Asia represents a huge burden of EC globally, and incidence and mortality vary considerably across different Asian regions.

Methods: Data on incidence, mortality, and preference were extracted from GLOBOCAN 2020.

Objective: To explore the clinical outcomes and characteristics of -mutated primary myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS).

Methods: A total of 74 primary MDS patients who were diagnosed and treated in the Department of Hematology of our hospital from January 2018 and September 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. All patients had evaluable blood cell counts, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), bone marrow (BM) morphology, biopsy, and MDS-related 20-gene mutations sequencing.

A global study for acute myeloid leukemia with RARG rearrangement.

Blood Adv

July 2023

National Clinical Research Center for Hematologic Diseases, The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Jiangsu Institute of Hematology, Institute of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, Collaborative Innovation Center of Hematology, Soochow University, Suzhou, China.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with retinoic acid receptor γ (RARG) rearrangement has clinical, morphologic, and immunophenotypic features similar to classic acute promyelocytic leukemia. However, AML with RARG rearrangement is insensitive to alltrans retinoic acid (ATRA) and arsenic trioxide (ATO) and carries a poor prognosis. We initiated a global cooperative study to define the clinicopathological features, genomic and transcriptomic landscape, and outcomes of AML with RARG rearrangements collected from 29 study groups/institutions worldwide.

Cepharanthine (CEP), a bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid from tubers of Stephania, protects against some inflammatory diseases. Aconitate decarboxylase 1 (ACOD1) is also known as immune-responsive gene 1 (IRG1), which plays an important immunometabolism role in inflammatory diseases by mediating the production of itaconic acid. ACOD1 exhibits abnormal expression in ulcerative colitis (UC).

Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) is a life-threatening complication after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and is primarily treated with steroids. However, there is no standard treatment for steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (SR-aGVHD). Although mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have proven effective for SR-aGVHD, few reports have focused on human umbilical cord blood-derived MSCs (hUCB-MSCs).
