Background: Breast cancer anti-estrogen resistance 4 (BCAR4) is closely associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) initiation and propagation. However, the mechanisms underlying BCAR4 function in colon cancer remains largely unknown. In this study, we hypothesized that BCAR4 could regulate colon cancer stem/initiating cells (CSC) function and further facilitates the colon cancer progression.

A number of studies have reported that aberrant expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) closely correlates with the bone metastasis of prostate cancer (PCa). However, clinical significance and functional roles of both strands of a single miRNA in bone metastasis of PCa remain undefined. Here, we reported that miR-582-3p and miR-582-5p expression were simultaneously reduced in bone metastatic PCa tissues compared with non-bone metastatic PCa tissues.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been proved to play important roles in carcinogenesis and development of numerous cancers, but their biological functions in glioblastoma remain largely unknown. In this study, we found HOXB-AS1 was highly expressed in human glioblastoma tissues and cell lines, and was associated with survival time of patients. Our results showed HOXB-AS1 knockdown inhibited proliferation via inducing S phase cell cycle arrest, and suppressed migration ability of cells.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to define blood flow characteristics of multiple types of flaps and the theoretical basis of flap axis design. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: a normal skin group, and 5 groups with different types of flap: abdominal flap group, dorsal flap group, single-perforator flap group, double-perforators flap group, and delayed cutaneous nerve flap group. The vascular distribution characteristics of normal skin and various flap types were observed by gross morphology of specimens and X-ray after perfusion.

Background: A number of studies have attempted to determine the prognostic significance of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), but the reports are controversial and inconsistent. Thus, we conducted a meta-analysis to clarify the value of PCNA in CRC prognosis.

Methods: A systematic search of relevant studies was performed in 4 electronic databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science until February 2018.

Vascular remodeling is mainly caused by excessive proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) have emerged as important regulators in diverse pathological processes. Previous work has shown the functions and mechanisms of long noncoding RNA H19 (LncRNA H19) on VSMCs.

In the 60th anniversary of Chinese burn medicine, I am honored to review the development of Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery in the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College. The Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical college was relocated to Zunyi in 1969 to support the development of southwestern China and renamed Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College. Only a few medical workers stayed in Zunyi when the State Council decided to reestablish Dalian Medical University in 1978.

Rationale: Gaucher disease (GD), characterized by glucosylceramide accumulation in the macrophage-monocyte system, is caused by glucosidase b acid (GBA) gene mutations which lead to the deficiency of lysosomal enzyme glucocerebrosidase. The mutation spectrum of GBA in Chinese patients is quite different from those seen in Jewish and non-Jewish Caucasian patients. Thus, it is relatively hard to diagnose GD in Chinese.

Objective: This study aims at investigating the effects and molecular mechanism of riboflavin-ultraviolet-A-induced cross-linking (corneal collagen cross-linking, CXL) on corneal neovascularization (CNV) in a rabbit alkali burn model.

Methods: A total of 60 rabbits were injured with alkali burns to induce CNV in the right eye and were randomly divided into six groups: Group A-injury and no treatment; Groups B, C, and D-CXL treatment for 30 min, 15 min, and 45 min administered immediately after injury, respectively; and Groups E and F-CXL treatment for 30 min administered 1 day and 3 days after injury, respectively. CNV area, corneal edema, and corneal epithelial defects were observed on days 4, 7, 10, and 14 after injury.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to examine how serum androgen levels relate to lipid metabolism in middle-aged and elderly men in Zunyi, Guizhou.
  • Researchers conducted physical exams and blood tests on 437 males, categorizing them into middle-aged and elderly groups to compare levels of various hormones and lipids.
  • Findings revealed that lower levels of testosterone, SHBG, and LH were linked to increased risks of high cholesterol and triglycerides, while higher levels of these androgens were associated with lower HDL cholesterol levels.

To explore the effects of local transplantation of autologous adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF) on the hyperplastic scar (HS) formation in rabbit ears and the mechanism. Twenty-four New Zealand white rabbits were used to reproduce HSs by making four full-thickness skin defect wounds with a diameter of 1 cm on the ventral surface of left ear of each rabbit. Wound epithelization and local-tissue proliferation were observed, and wound healing (complete epithelization) time and formation time of HS were recorded.
