Exercise activates autophagy and lysosome system in skeletal muscle, which are known to play an important role in metabolic adaptation. However, the mechanism of exercise-activated autophagy and lysosome system in obese insulin resistance remains covert. In this study, we investigated the role of exercise-induced activation of autophagy and lysosome system in improving glucose metabolism of skeletal muscle.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common brain-gut disorder often accompanied by depressive symptoms, with atrophy and hyperactivity of the anterior cingulate gyrus (ACC) being key drivers of both IBS and its psychiatric comorbidities. This study aimed to investigate the functional connectivity (FC) patterns of pregenual ACC (pgACC) and anterior midcingulate cortex (aMCC) in IBS patients with depressive symptoms (DEP-IBS). A whole-brain FC analysis was conducted using pgACC and aMCC as regions of interest in three groups: 28 DEP-IBS patients, 21 IBS patients without depressive symptoms (nDEP-IBS), and 36 matched healthy controls (HCs).

Background: The individualized prediction and discrimination of precancerous lesions of gastric cancer (PLGC) is critical for the early prevention of gastric cancer (GC). However, accurate non-invasive methods for distinguishing between PLGC and GC are currently lacking. This study therefore aimed to develop a risk prediction model by machine learning and deep learning techniques to aid the early diagnosis of GC.

Background And Hypothesis: Population-based morphological covariance networks are widely reported to be altered in schizophrenia. Individualized morphological brain network approaches have emerged recently. We hypothesize that individualized morphological brain networks are disrupted in schizophrenia.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder and its underlying neuroanatomical mechanisms still remain unclear. The scaled subprofile model of principal component analysis (SSM-PCA) is a data-driven multivariate technique for capturing stable disease-related spatial covariance pattern. Here, SSM-PCA is innovatively applied to obtain robust ASD-related gray matter volume pattern associated with clinical symptoms.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a common metabolism-related multisystem clinical disorder, often accompanied by a high comorbidity of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Increasing evidence suggests that the amygdala is crucial in cognitive processing during metabolic dysfunction. Nevertheless, the role of the amygdala in the neural mechanisms of MASLD with MCI (MCI_MASLD) remains unclear.

Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common extracranial solid tumor in children. Despite treatment advances, the survival rates of high-risk NB patients remain low. This highlights the urgent need for a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms driving NB progression to support the development of new therapeutic strategies.

Mammalian spermatogenesis is a tightly controlled cellular process including spermatogonial development and differentiation, meiosis of spermatocyte, and the morphological specification of haploid spermatozoa, during which the post-transcriptional gene regulations are vital but poorly understood. Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD), a highly conserved post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism of gene expression in eukaryotes, recently emerges as a licensing mechanism in cell fate transition, including stem cell differentiation and organogenesis. The function of NMD in spermatogonial development remains elusive.

Introduction: We investigated the neural correlates of cognitive decline in visual word perception from the perspective of intrinsic brain networks.
Methods: A total of 19 healthy older adults and 22 young adults were recruited to participate in two functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) sessions (one resting-state session and one for localizer tasks), along with a visual word perceptual processing task. We examined age-related alterations in resting-state functional connectivity (FC) within the word network, as well as between the word network and other networks.

Recent studies demonstrate that lipid peroxidation-induced ferroptosis participates in 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47)-evoked neurotoxicity and cognitive dysfunction. Melatonin has been indicated to confer neuroprotection against brain diseases via its potent anti-ferroptotic effects. Therefore, this study aims to explore whether melatonin can mitigate BDE-47-elicited cognitive impairment via suppressing ferroptosis, and further delineate the underlying mechanisms.

Brain responses to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can be recorded with electroencephalography (EEG) and comprise TMS-evoked potentials and TMS-induced oscillations. Repetitive TMS may entrain endogenous brain oscillations. In turn, ongoing brain oscillations prior to the TMS pulse can influence the effects of the TMS pulse.

Background: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder with different subtypes of pathogenesis. Insufficient research on the subtypes of ADHD has limited the effectiveness of therapeutic methods.
Methods: This study used resting-state functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to record hemodynamic signals in 34 children with ADHD-combined subtype (ADHD-C), 52 children with ADHD-inattentive subtype (ADHD-I), and 24 healthy controls (HCs).

Objective: Resveratrol (Res) is a promising anticancer drug against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but whether its anti-HCC effects implicate mitophagy remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to explore the specific role of Res in mitophagy and the related mechanisms during the treatment of HCC.
Methods: HepG2 cells and tumor-grafted nude mice were used to investigate the effects of low-, middle- and high-dose of Res on HCC progression and mitophagy in vitro and in vivo, respectively.

Gastrointestinal region (GI) cancers are closely linked to the ubiquitination system, with the E3 ubiquitin ligase playing a crucial role by targeting various substrates. As E3 ubiquitin ligases, proteins of tripartite motif (TRIM) family play a role in cancer signaling, development, apoptosis, and formation. These proteins regulate diverse biological activities and signaling pathways.

Intestinal barrier injury contributes to multiple diseases such as obesity and diabetes, whereas no treatment options are available. Due to close interactions between mucosal microbiome and intestinal barrier, we evaluated the potential of mucosal bacteria in providing targets for high-fat diet (HFD)-related intestinal barrier injury. Whole-genome metagenomics was used to evaluate mucosal microbiome, while intestinal barrier injury was estimated using serum LPS, FITC-dextran intensity, and ZO-1 protein.

Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) technology such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) represents a promising treatment for neuropathic pain. However, neural circuitries underlying analgesia remain to be established, which is largely limiting treatment responses. Using TMS and electroencephalogram co-registration (TMS-EEG), this study quantified the circuitry abnormalities in neuropathic pain and their associations with pain symptoms.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) is considered highly effective treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), who often develop drug resistance after 10 months of treatment. Herein, the aim was to unravel the mechanism behind the resistance to icotinib in NSCLC.
Methods: Establishment of icotinib-resistant PC-9 cells (PC-9R) was achieved through repeated exposure to increasing concentrations of icotinib for more than 12 months.
