EGFR/EGFR variant III (EGFRvIII) glioblastoma is seriously malignant, and the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, EGFR and GLUT3 were found to be co-expressed in our collected tissues and associated with worse overall survival in glioblastoma via bioinformatics analysis. Functionally, and tests revealed that silencing GLUT3 substantially inhibited the viability of U87-EGFRvIII and LN229-EGFRvIII cells.

Effective chemotherapy drugs for colorectal cancer remain a challenge. In this research, Ziyuglycoside II (Ziyu II), exhibits considerable antitumor activity against CRC cells both and . The results showed that Ziyu II induced apoptosis through the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which was necessary for Ziyu II to inhibit colorectal cancer cells.

Objectives: To explore characteristics of urinary stone composition in China, and determine the effects of gender, age, body mass index (BMI), stone location, and geographical region on stone composition.
Patients And Methods: We prospectively used Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy to analyse stones from consecutive patients presenting with new-onset urolithiasis at 46 hospitals in seven geographical areas of China, between 1 June 2010 and 31 May 2015. Chi-squared tests and logistic regression analyses were used to determine associations between stone composition and gender, age, BMI, stone location, and geographical region.

Cervical cancer is one of the most aggressive human cancers with poor prognosis due to constant chemoresistance and repeated relapse. Tubeimoside I (TBM) has been identified as a potent antitumor agent that inhibits cancer cell proliferation by triggering apoptosis and inducing cell cycle arrest. Nevertheless, the detailed mechanism remains unclear and needs to be further elucidated, especially in cervical cancer.

Heart transplantation has been applied in the clinic as an optimal solution for patients with end stage cardiac failure for a number of years. However, hypothermic preservation of the heart remains limited to 4-6 h and calcium accumulation over time is an important factor resulting in cell death. To provide longer and safer storage for donor hearts, it was demonstrated in our previous study that luteolin, a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat cardiovascular diseases, inhibits cell death and L-type calcium currents during hypothermic preservation.

As we move from a discovery to a translational phase in proteomics, with a focus on developing validated clinical assays to assist personalized medicine, there is a growing need for strong bidirectional interactions with the clinical pathology community. Thus, while on one hand the proteomics community will provide candidate biomarkers to assist in diagnosis, prognosis, surveillance, identification of individualized patient medication, and development and validation of new assays for diagnostic use, on the other the pathology community will assist with specific tissue identification and selection (e.g.

Background: The obesity-hypertension pathogenesis is complex. From the phenotype to molecular mechanism, there is a long way to clarify the mechanism. To explore the association between obesity and hypertension, we correlate the phenotypes such as the waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure (SB), and diastolic blood pressure (DB) with the clinical laboratory data between four specific Chinese adult physical examination groups (newly diagnosed untreated just-obesity group, newly diagnosed untreated obesity-hypertension group, newly diagnosed untreated just-hypertension group, and normal healthy group), and the results may show something.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of retrograde colonic electrical stimulation (RCES) with trains of short pulses and RCES with long pulses on colonic transit in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) rats and to investigate whether stress-induced visceral hypersensitivity could be alleviated by RCES so as to find a valuable new approach for IBS treatment.
Methods: A total of 48 male rats were randomly divided into model group and control group. Visceral hypersensitivity model was induced by a 6-day HIS protocol composed of two stressors, restraint stress for 40 min and forced swimming stress for 20 min.

A key component during sepsis is the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) signaling pathway, of which the PI3K-γ isoform is a major regulator in many inflammatory responses. However, the role of PI3K-γ in the development of sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD) is unknown. In this study, we established a model of SIMD induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), subsequently used the selective inhibitor LY294002 and AS605240 to block the effect of PI3K and PI3K-γ, respectively.

Fecal proteomics has gained increased prominence in recent years. It can provide insights into the diagnosis and surveillance of many bowel diseases by both identifying potential biomarkers in stool samples and helping identify disease-related pathways. Fecal proteomics has already shown its potential for the discovery and validation of biomarkers for colorectal cancer screening, and the analysis of fecal microbiota by MALDI-MS for the diagnosis of a range of bowel diseases is gaining clinical acceptance.

However, it is still unknown whether such an mtDNA content pattern of centenarians could be passed on to their offspring and how it was regulated.

Over the past decades, substantial advances have been made in both the early diagnosis and accurate prognosis of many cancers because of the impressive development of novel proteomic strategies. However, it remains difficult to standardize proteomic approaches. In addition, the heterogeneity of proteins in distinct tissues results in incomplete population of the whole proteome, which inevitably limits its clinical practice.

It has been reported previously that the expression of glucose transporter member 3 (GLUT3) is increased in malignant glioma cells compared with normal glial cells. However, the regulating mechanism that causes this phenomenon remains unknown. The present study investigated the regulating role of transcription factor specific protein 1 (Sp1) in GLUT3 expression in a human glioma cell line.

Adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a crucial energy sensor that maintains cellular energy homeostasis. AMPK plays a critical role in macroautophagy/autophagy, and autophagy facilitates hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication. To date, the intrinsic link among AMPK, autophagy and HBV production remains to be elucidated.

Tubulointerstitial fibrosis (TIF) is caused by the progressive loss of renal tubular cells and the consequent replacement of the extracellular matrix. The progressive depletion of renal tubular cells results from apoptosis and necroptosis; however, the relative significance of each of these cell death mechanisms at different stages during the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains unclear. We sought to explore the mechanisms of renal tubular cell death during the early and intermediate stages of chronic renal damage of subtotal nephrectomied (SNx) rats.
