Department of Psychiatry, the Affiliated Brain Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, China; Nanjing Brain Hospital, Clinical Teaching Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Major depressive disorder (MDD) linked with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) shows increased levels of anhedonia (inability to feel pleasure).
  • A study involving 86 MDD patients (some with many ACEs, others with few) assessed their reward sensitivity using the Iowa gambling task, revealing that those with more ACEs had worse anhedonia and decision-making abilities.
  • The study found that the reduction in reward positivity (ΔRewP) helped explain how ACEs contribute to anhedonia in MDD, highlighting the impact of early adverse experiences on the brain's reward system.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer death worldwide and its prognosis is highly heterogeneous, being related not only to underlying chronic liver disease but also to the severity of cancer cachexia. Nutritional factors play a crucial role in influencing the prognosis of HCC. Despite musculoskeletal imbalance being consistently reported as a predictor of perioperative mortality in patients with HCC, this condition is often overlooked in clinical management.

Part of the tumor localization methods in radiotherapy have poor real-time performance and may generate additional radiation. We propose a multimodal point cloud-based method for tumor localization in robotic ultrasound-guided radiotherapy, which only irradiates computed tomography (CT) during radiotherapy planning to avoid additional radiation. The tumor position was determined using the CT point cloud, and the red green blue depth (RGBD) point cloud was used to determine body surface scanning location corresponding to the tumor location.

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection continues to be a prominent cause of liver fibrosis and end-stage liver disease in China, necessitating the development of effective therapeutic strategies. This study investigated the potential of targeting TGR5 to alleviate liver fibrosis by impeding the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), which play a pivotal role in fibrotic progression. Using the human hepatic stellate cell line LX-2 overexpressing hepatitis B virus X protein (HBX), this study revealed that TGR5 activation through INT-777 inhibits HBX-induced LX-2 cell activation, thereby ameliorating liver fibrosis, which is associated with the attenuation of mitochondrial fission and introduces a novel regulatory pathway in liver fibrosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed a copper-doped carbon nanozyme (CC) that exhibits multiple enzyme-like activities to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) for cancer treatment, overcoming challenges like low biocompatibility and effectiveness in the tumor environment.
  • The nanozyme was combined with a photosensitizer and gelatin to create a ROS amplifier (CCC) that enhances its biocompatibility, reduces hemolysis, and allows for enzyme-responsive degradation.
  • CCC effectively induces a “ROS storm” to destroy cancer cells by boosting ROS production through various enzyme-like activities and demonstrating strong anti-tumor effects in both lab and live tests.
