Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has greater infiltration of M2-like macrophages (TAMs), which enhances cancer cell invasion and leads to a poor prognosis. TNBC progression is mediated by both tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment (TME). Here we elucidate the mechanism of the interaction between TNBC cells and TAMs.

Limited information is currently available on the natural history and prognosis of two distinct histological subtypes of adenocarcinoma (AC) in the colon: mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAC) and signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC). Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the clinicopathological characteristics of colon MAC and SRCC, comparing them to classical AC, using a large cohort of cases from the United States. Patients diagnosed with colon AC, MAC, or SRCC from the SEER database between 2000 and 2018 were included in our study.

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a lethal disease with extremely high mortality. Although surgical resection is the optimal therapeutic approach for PC, about 30%-40% of those patients are not candidates for surgical resection when diagnosed. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy also could not claim a desirable effect on PC.

The balance between T helper type 1 (Th1) and T helper type 2 (Th2) cells is critical for both innate and acquired immune reactions. However, the precise mechanisms of T helper-cell differentiation remain unclear. As an important T-cell activation molecule, CD44 participates in the differentiation of Th1 and Th2 cells.

Suppressing BCL-XL increased the high dose androgens therapeutic effect to better induce the Enzalutamide-resistant prostate cancer autophagic cell death.

Article Synopsis
  • Most patients with advanced prostate cancer initially respond to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), but develop resistance over time, leading to challenges in treatment.
  • Research shows that Enzalutamide-resistant prostate cancer cells can be effectively targeted by high doses of the androgen DHT, which can promote cell death while also increasing certain anti-apoptotic proteins.
  • By manipulating the signaling pathway involving DHT, androgen receptors, and specific microRNAs, researchers aim to enhance the effectiveness of DHT treatment, with further studies in animal models supporting this approach for potential new therapies in humans.

Cisplatin chemotherapy is standard care for many cancers but is toxic to the kidneys. How this toxicity occurs is uncertain. In this study, we identified apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 2 (APE2) as a critical molecule upregulated in the proximal tubule cells (PTC) following cisplatin-induced nuclear DNA and mitochondrial DNA damage in cisplatin-treated C57B6J mice.

Late clinical outcomes of lambre versus amplatzer occluders for left atrial appendage closure.

J Cardiovasc Electrophysiol

April 2020

Department of Cardiology, Klinikum Lichtenfels, Lichtenfels, Germany.

Introduction: The LAmbre (LifeTech Scientific, Shenzhen, China) is a novel occluder for left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) in patients with atrial fibrillation. This study compares late clinical outcomes of LAmbre and the established Amplatzer devices (Abbott, St Paul, MN).

Methods: Between 2012 and 2018, 265 consecutive patients underwent LAAC with LAmbre and Amplatzer devices at a single center.

Objectives: To report long-term safety and efficacy of combined percutaneous LAA and PFO/ASD closure.

Methods: A retrospective study of 370 consecutive patients undergoing LAAC procedures using the Watchman (WM) device. Data were compared between 330 cases only with LAAC procedure (Group I) and 25/5 (PFO/ASD) cases with sequential procedures of LAAC and PFO/ASD closure (Group II).

Prognostic significance of cytochrome P450 2C19*2 polymorphism in acute myocardial infarction is still not well investigated. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between the genetic polymorphism and the outcome of the acute myocardial infarction patients, and to further clarify the impact of smoking on such relationship. Six hundred acute myocardial infarction patients were enrolled.

To maximize tumor excision and minimize collateral damage are the primary goals of cancer surgery. Emerging molecular imaging techniques have made "image-guided surgery" developed into "molecular imaging-guided surgery", which is termed as "targeted surgery" in this review. Consequently, the precision of surgery can be advanced from tissue-scale to molecule-scale, enabling "targeted surgery" to be a component of "targeted therapy".

Intrastriatal transplantation of retinal pigment epithelial cells for the treatment of Parkinson disease: in vivo longitudinal molecular imaging with 18F-P3BZA PET/CT.

Radiology

July 2014

From the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford (MIPS), Department of Radiology and Bio-X Program, Stanford University, 1201 Welch Rd, Lucas Center, Room P095, Stanford, CA 94305-5484 (L.B., R.L., H.L., Z.C.); Molecular Imaging Center, Department of Radiology, The 4th Hospital of Harbin Medical University, Harbin, Heilongjiang, P.R. China (L.B., R.L., B.S.); and Departments of Genetics (W.F., D.V.) and Neurosurgery (X.X., H.Z.), School of Medicine, Stanford University, Stanford, Calif.

Purpose: To evaluate the performance of N-[2-(diethylamino)ethyl]-(18)F-5-fluoropicolinamide ((18)F-P3BZA) for visualizing porcine retinal pigment epithelium (pRPE) cells transplanted in the striatum for the treatment of Parkinson disease and to monitor the long-term activity of implanted pRPE cells by means of (18)F-P3BZA positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) in vivo.

Materials And Methods: Animal work was conducted in accordance with the administrative panel on laboratory animal care. In vitro cell uptake of (18)F-P3BZA was determined with incubation of melanotic pRPE or amelanotic ARPE-19 cells with (18)F-P3BZA.

Department of Radiology, the 4th Hospital of Harbin Medical University Harbin, Heilongjiang, China ; Key Laboratory of Molecular Imaging, College of Heilongjiang Province Harbin, Heilongjiang, China ; Department of Diagnostic Radiology, University of Louisville School of Medicine Louisville, Kentucky USA.

The objective of this study was to determine whether (18)F-misonidazole could detect hypoxia in macroscopic and microscopic tumors in mice. In nude mice, subcutaneous xenografts and peritoneal metastases were generated utilizing human non-small cell lung cancer A549 and HTB177 cells. Animals were co-injected with (18)F-misonidazole, pimonidazole and bromodeoxyuridine, and tumor perfusion was assessed by Hoechst 33342 injection.
