Data Sources: This search was applied to Medline, Embase, Cochrane central database (all up to April 2014).

Methods: All the studies on bilateral hip fractures in elderly patients published in English were reviewed and qualities of included studies were assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale.

Effect of isolated unilateral diaphragmatic paralysis on ventilation and exercise performance in rats.

The degree of impairment of ventilation and exercise performance after unilateral diaphragmatic paralysis (UDP) induced by phrenic nerve injury has been controversial due to heterogeneity in the published clinical studies. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of isolated UDP on breathing and exercise performance in conscious rats. Breathing was measured by unrestrained whole body plethysmography during quiet breathing and after moderate aerobic exercise.

Reduced vasoreactivity in corpus cavernosum of the akita mouse.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is an important risk factor of erectile dysfunction (ED). We sought to investigate the nature and mechanism of the vasoreactivity in Akita (Ins2 [WT/C96Y]) mice, a model of genetic nonobese Type 1 diabetes that recapitulates human Type 1 diabetes. Eight wild-type (WT) mice (group 1) and 8 Akita mice (group 2) were used for this study.

Safe drilling angles and depths for plate-screw fixation of the clavicle: avoidance of inadvertent iatrogenic subclavian neurovascular bundle injury.

Background: Plate fixation is frequently used to repair clavicle fractures, but over drilling can cause subclavian neurovascular bundle damage. Methods: Sixteen fresh foot specimens were randomly divided into experimental group and the control group. Axial compressive load were applied to all specimens in order to create a calcaneal fracture model, and the maximum load and the maximum arch displacement of experimental group were recorded.

Osteochondroma arising from the thoracic transverse process.

The incidence of osteochondroma is rare and only 2% of such tumors are found in the spine area. When they are found in the vertebral column, less than 1% of all osteochondromas and few tumors occur in the thoracic vertebrae. An osteochondroma arising from the transverse process of the vertebra is even rarer, especially following from the thoracic transverse process.

[Repair of defect on finger skin with reverse fascial pedicle island flap of dorsal branch of digital artery].

Objective: To introduce the surgical procedure and indication of the reverse fascial pedicle island flap of the digital artery dorsal branches in repairing finger skin defect.

Methods: By use of the dorsal branches of the digital artery as the pedicel, the reverse island flap was designed. The skin defects of the proximal interphalangeal joint and beyond in 35 cases (42 fingers) were repaired and the joint or extensor tendon was reconstructed simultaneously.
