Background: Malnutrition is significantly associated with unfavorable outcomes, but the relevant prognostic assessment is not emphasized in patients who have osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). This study aimed to assess the association between preoperative nutritional status evaluated by the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and walking independence at one year postoperatively in patients who have ONFH undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty (THA).
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from patients admitted to a tertiary referral hospital who had ONFH and underwent primary unilateral THA from October 30, 2014 to April 26, 2019.

Background: It is known that open wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) may lead to progression of patellofemoral degeneration due to descent of the patellar height. However, the difference in patellofemoral joint (PFJ) loads with normal daily activity between uniplane and biplane osteotomies is unclear. The purpose of this study was to reveal the differences in PFJ biomechanics between uniplane and biplane OWHTO using finite element analysis (FEA).

Introduction: Pneumonia is a common and devastating complication following hip fracture surgery in older patients. Time to surgery is a potentially modifiable factor associated with improved prognosis, and we aim to quantify the time-effect relationship between time to surgery and in-hospital postoperative pneumonia (IHPOP) and identify the effect of delayed surgery on the risk of IHPOP.
Methods: We analyzed clinical data of older hip fracture patients (≥60 years) undergoing surgical treatments at a tertiary referral trauma center between 2015 and 2020.

Purpose: Neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and red blood cell distribution width (RDW) are novel biomarkers to indicate the inflammatory/immune response, and demonstrated to be effective in diagnosis, severity evaluation, and prognosis in a variety of chronic or acute conditions. This study aims to examine whether NLR, PLR and EDW are independently associated with mortality in necrotizing fasciitis (NF).
Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled patients diagnosed with NF and based on vitality status during hospitalization or within 30 days after discharge, survival and non-survival groups were defined.

Trabecular bone plays an important role in the load-bearing capacity of the femur. Understanding the structural characteristics, biomechanics, and mechanical conduction of the trabecular bone is of great value in studying the mechanism of fractures and formulating surgical plans. The past decade has witnessed unprecedented progress in imaging, biomechanics and finite element analysis techniques, translating into a better understanding of trabecular bone.
