The escalating need for prompt and highly sensitive on-site detection of trace-level drugs is fueling the advancement of miniature, high-performance mass spectrometers and analytical methodologies. In this study, a miniature continuous atmospheric pressure interfaced ion trap mass spectrometer integrated with thermal desorption acetone-assisted photoionization (TD-CAPI-ITMS) was developed for highly sensitive detection of nonvolatile drugs in saliva and blood. By strategically extending the sampling time of the TD-CAPI-ITMS to cover the entire desorption process, a remarkable two-order-of-magnitude enhancement in the signal intensity of individual drugs was observed.

The chemokine-like factor (CKLF)-like MARVEL transmembrane domain-containing (CMTM) family includes CMTM1-8 and CKLF, and they play key roles in the hematopoietic, immune, cardiovascular, and male reproductive systems, participating in the physiological functions, cancer, and other diseases associated with these systems. CMTM family members activate and chemoattract immune cells to affect the proliferation and invasion of tumor cells through a similar mechanism, the structural characteristics typical of chemokines and transmembrane 4 superfamily (TM4SF). In this review, we discuss each CMTM family member's chromosomal location, involved signaling pathways, expression patterns, and potential roles, and mechanisms of action in pancreatic, breast, gastric and liver cancers.

Aim: To understand the direct impact of bradykinin in autonomic control of circulation through baroreflex afferent pathway.
Methods: The mean arterial pressure (MAP) was monitored while bradykinin and its agonists were applied via nodose (NG) microinjection, the expression of bradykinin receptors (BRs) in the NG (1 -order) and nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS, 2 -order) were tested in adult male, age-matched female, and ovariectomized rats under physiological and hypertensive conditions. Additionally, bradykinin-induced depolarization was also tested in identified baroreceptor and baroreceptive neurons using whole-cell patch-clamp technique.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted clinical care worldwide. Evidence of how this health crisis affected common conditions like blood pressure (BP) control is uncertain.
Methods: We used longitudinal BP data from an ongoing randomized clinical trial to examine variations in home BP monitored via a smartphone-based application (app) in a total of 7394 elderly patients with hypertension aged 60 to 80 years stratified by their location in Wuhan (n=283) compared with other provinces of China (n=7111).

The optimal systolic blood pressure (SBP) treatment target in elderly people is full of challenge, and non-adherence is one major cause of uncontrolled BP. The Strategy of Blood Pressure Intervention in the Elderly Hypertensive Patients (STEP) trial is a multi-center, randomized controlled trial that aims to examine whether an intensive treatment (110 ≤ SBP < 130 mmHg) will provide more benefits in lowering cardiovascular events than a mild treatment (130 ≤ SBP < 150 mmHg) among people aged 60-80 years. From January 10, 2017 to December 31, 2017, 8511 patients with primary hypertension were recruited at 42 clinical centers throughout China and randomly assigned to the intensive or standard treatment in 1:1 ratio, in which clinical sites are considered as a stratification factor in randomization.

To determine better solutions for postoperative nerve functional recovery, the effects of chitosan and hyaluronate on perineural scar formation and neural function recovery were investigated in 40 rabbits. Rabbits were randomized into 4 groups: A (chitosan), B (chitosan + hyaluronate), C (hyaluronate) and D (control). The rabbits underwent the same parotidectomy surgery, but different materials were used to cover the operated nerves.

Soluble (pro)renin receptor [s(P)RR], which is generated from cleavage of (P)RR, can be detected in plasma and urine. s(P)RR levels can reflect the severity of some diseases, such as renal lesions, gestational diabetes mellitus or hypertension, and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. However, the relationship between s(P)RR levels and the severity of chronic heart failure remains undetermined.

Background: The in-vitro study indicated that ERK/MAPK and PI3K/AKT signal channels may play an important role in reparative regeneration process after peripheral nerve injury. But, relevant in-vivo study was infrequent. In particular, there has been no report on simultaneous activation of ERK/MAPK and PI3K/AKT signal channels in facial nerve cell and axon after facial nerve injury.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been reported as key regulators in numerous diseases including osteosarcoma. The function of microRNA-141-3p (miR-141-3p) and whether this function is achieved by regulation of GLI family zinc finger 2 (GLI2) in osteosarcoma remain unclear. In the present study, we found decreased expression of miR-141-3p, but increased expression of GLI2 in osteosarcoma tissues and cell lines.

The ERK/MAPK and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways play important role in neuronal survival and axonal regeneration after peripheral nerve injury. However, the relative importance and degree of functional overlap of the two pathways are still debated due to lack of in-vivo data. We used rats which underwent a facial nerve axotomy, and examined subsequent ERK/MAPK and PI3K/Akt signaling activity by quantifying phosphorylation of ERK and Akt.

Background: Clinical and dermoscopic features of Bowen's disease (BD) show great diversity. Some lesions of BD are often difficult to be differentiated from seborrheic keratosis, actinic keratosis, lichen planus-like keratosis, etc. It is necessary to fully describe the dermoscopic features of the disease, considering differential diagnosis.

The (pro)renin receptor is a new molecular member of the renin-angiotensin system and participates in regulating many physiological and pathological processes. However, the role of (pro)renin receptor-mediated signaling pathways in myocardial ischemic/reperfusion injury remains unclear. In this study, we hypothesized that p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway activation by the (pro)renin receptor had effects on myocardial apoptosis induced by ischemia/reperfusion.

Sporotrichosis is the most common deep mycosis in Northeast China which is an area of high epidemicity due to contact with reeds or cornstalks. In this study, we have characterized a total of 74 clinical isolates from fixed cutaneous, lymphocutaneous and disseminated clinical forms and from Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning provinces, respectively. All isolates (previously as Sporothrix schenckii) were identified as Sporothrix globosa according to their phenotypic characteristics and calmodulin gene sequences analysis.

Sporotrichosis is usually a localized, lymphocutaneous disease, but its disseminated type was rarely reported. The main objective of this study was to identify specific DNA sequence variation and virulence of a strain of Sporothrix schenckii isolated from the lesion of disseminated cutaneous sporotrichosis. We confirmed this strain to be S.
