In this study, two susceptible strains and two multi-drug resistant clinical Escherichia coli strains were obtained by Kirby-Bauer method, and then a GC-MS-based metabolomics method was used to compare the differential expression of metabolites between two drug sensitive (CK1 and CK2) and two multidrug-resistant (MDR1 and MDR2) clinical strains of E. coli. We characterized a total of 273 metabolites, including 77 commonly altered metabolites, between MDR vs.

Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is a mitochondria hereditary eye disease that involves with retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) resulting eventually in degeneration and atrophy of optic nerve. The three mitochondrial DNA mutations (ND4 G11778A, ND1G3460A, ND6T14484C) have been recognized as the primary mutation locus of LHON. Currently there is no effective therapy for LHON.

Endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) participate in vessel recovery and maintenance of normal endothelial function. Therefore, pitavastatin-nanoparticles (NPs)-engineered EPC may be effective in repairing injured vasculature. Pitavastatin-loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (PLGA) NPs were obtained via ultrasonic emulsion solvent evaporation with PLGA as the carrier encapsulating pitavastatin.

β-defensin family plays a role in host defense against viral infection, however its role in HCV infection is still unknown. In this study, we demonstrated that β-defensin 1 was significantly reduced in HCV-infected liver specimens. Treatment with interferon and ribavirin upregulated β-defensin-1, but not other β-defensin tested, with the extent and duration of upregulation associated with treatment response.

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) overexpression is related to the increased aggressiveness, metastases, and poor prognosis in various cancers. In this study, we successfully constructed a new EGFR nanobody-based immunotoxin rE/CUS containing cucurmosin (CUS), The immunotoxin was expressed by prokaryotic system and we obtained a yield of 5 mg protein per liter expression medium. The percentage of it's binding ability totumor cell lines A549, HepG2, SW116, which highly expressed EGFR was 55.

The emergency difficult airway with the 'cannot intubate and cannot ventilate' (CICV) situation contributes to a high percentage of anesthesia- and emergency medicine-related morbidity and mortality. A new technique of supraglottic jet oxygenation and ventilation (SJOV) via the nasal approach was successfully used in an emergency to save a patient with a CICV difficult airway from a catastrophic outcome.

In our retrospective study we evaluated the efficacy of an improved amniotic membrane (AM) roll-in filling technique (AMR) combined with multilayer amniotic membrane cover to treat corneal perforation and included 46 cornea perforations ≤ 3 mm in diameter treated with AMR and 20% C3F8 mixed gas filling of the anterior chamber. Anterior chamber depth, aqueous leakage, bubble maintenance time, and cornea morphology were monitored after each operation. The mean diameter of corneal perforation was 1.

BACKGROUND Thrombolysis with rtPA is the only accepted drug therapy for acute ischemic stroke. Since acute cerebral stroke is so pervasive, newly developed recanalization methods have the potential for wide-ranging impacts on patient health and safety. We explored the efficacy and safety of Solitaire stent arterial embolectomy in the treatment of acute cardiogenic cerebral embolism.

Malignant gliomas, which comprise the most common type of primary malignant brain tumor, are associated with a poor prognosis and quality of life. Paclitaxel (Taxol) and temozolomide (TMZ) are Food and Drug Administration‑approved anticancer agents, which are known to have therapeutic applications in various malignancies. However, similar to other chemotherapeutic agents, the development of resistance to TMZ and Taxol is common.

Neurons convey information in bursts of spikes across chemical synapses where the fidelity of information transfer critically depends on synaptic input-output relationship. With a limited number of synaptic vesicles (SVs) in the readily releasable pool (RRP), how nerve terminals sustain transmitter release during intense activity remains poorly understood. Here we report that presynaptic K(+) currents evoked by spikes facilitate in a Ca(2+)-independent but frequency- and voltage-dependent manner.

The aim of this study was to facilitate and deepen the understanding of the associations of the microRNA-29 (miR-29) family with tumor progression and patients' prognosis of primary osteosarcoma. We examined expression levels of miR-29a, miR-29b, and miR-29c in tumor tissues and patients' sera of 80 cases of primary osteosarcomas by quantitative real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. The correlations of their serum levels with clinicopathological characteristics and patient prognosis were also analyzed.

Unlabelled: OBJECTIVE To study the effects of intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) on respiratory system, circulatory system and renal function in rats. To investigate the difference between the direct measure and indirect measure methods (via inferior vena cava and bladder) for IAP.
Methods: Sixty Sprague-Drawly (SD) rats were randomly divided into 5 groups with different IAP (IAP value of 1-5 groups was 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 mm Hg,respectively) and healthy control group, 10 rats in each group.
