Objective: To investigate the situation of neurofilament protein (NFP) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) staining in scars and normal human skin, and attempt to explain the etiology of scarring formation.
Methods: The samples of scar were obtained from post-burn (11-26 months) patients undergoing plastic operation in our burn unit recently, and the samples of control came from skin donor site of the same patient correspondingly. Immunohistochemistry staining technique was employed to examine the protein expression in scars and skin.

Objective: To study the expressions of mRNA and protein of ubiquitin in diaphragmatic muscle in burned rats with sepsis.
Methods: The model of burn sepsis was replicated by subjecting the rats to 30 percent total body surface area (TBSA) III degree burn followed immediately by administration of endotoxin (6 mg/kg) into the peritoneal cavity. The rats were randomly divided into 2-and 6-hour groups and a normal control group, with 9 rats in each group.

Objective: To explore the significance and the correlation between enteric endotoxin translocation and hepatic endotoxin -- sensitivity -- enhancing system--lipopolysaccharide -- binding protein (LBP)/lipopolysaccharide receptor CD14 (LBP/CD14) after burn.
Methods: Wistar rats subjected to 35% III degree burn were employed as the model. The rats were randomly divided into three groups: i.

Objective: To investigate if cardiac troponin I (cTnI) could be used to monitor non-ischemic cardiac damage.
Methods: Two categories of patients without clinical evidence of acute myocardial infarction but suspected to have cardiac damage were included: acute heart failure (n = 37, heart function classified as class IV); and post burn injury (n = 30, TBSA 4% approximately 98%). Serum samples from these patients were analyzed for cTnI by chemiluminescent immunoassay.

The results of intravenous tryptophan tolerance test and its relationship with hepatic pathologic changes were studied in 47 patients with chronic viral hepatitis (CVH). It is shown that patients with CVH whether chronic persistent hepatitis (CPH) or chronic active hepatitis (CAH), the average value of total tryptophan were above 97 mumol/L (normal less than or equal to 85 mumol/L). There was no significant difference between the CPH and CAH groups (P greater than 0.

In rats with shock induced by superior mesenteric artery occlusion (SMAO), the concentration of calcium in liver cell mitochondria increased and that of magnesium decreased. In the same period, the calcium concentration in the homogenate of liver, lung, and kidney also decreased. 5mg/kg verapamil, which was given subcutaneously one hour before SMAO, could reversed the above calcium concentrations that the calcium concentration in liver cell mitochondria decreased and that in the homogenate of liver, lung, and kidney increased.
