Background: One of the significant complications associated with Lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS), which is a critical intervention for patients with advanced emphysema, is the development of postoperative air leaks. We have found that oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC) can be used in LVRS to minimize postoperative air leaks and enhance recovery in our clinical work. This study evaluates the efficacy of a novel ORC application method in improving lung function and reducing complications in patients undergoing LVRS for emphysema.

Article Synopsis
  • Mechanical loading is crucial for bone health, but individual responses vary greatly, complicating its application in treating osteoporosis.
  • Gut microbial depletion affects how bones adapt to mechanical stress, with specific gut bacteria like Lachnospiraceae playing a significant role in bone responsiveness.
  • Key metabolites, particularly L-citrulline and L-arginine, enhance bone adaptation to mechanical loading by activating a positive feedback loop involving nitric oxide and calcium in bone cells, suggesting a new approach to combat osteoporosis through gut health.

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has received significant attention as a potential target for glioblastoma (GBM) therapeutics in the past two decades. However, although cetuximab, an antibody that specifically targets EGFR, exhibits a high affinity for EGFR, it has not yet been applied in the treatment of GBM. Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) utilize tumor-targeting antibodies for the selective delivery of cytotoxic drugs, resulting in improved efficacy compared to conventional chemotherapy drugs.

Background: Neuromodulatory techniques have been proven to enhance functional recovery after stroke in patients and animals, such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). However, the success and feasibility of these approaches were often variable, largely due to a lack of target specificity.

Objective: We explored the effects of specific chemogenetic stimulation of intact corticospinal tract during rehabilitative training on functional recovery after stroke in mice.
