In most developed countries, coronary artery disease (CAD), mostly caused by atherosclerosis of coronary arteries, is one of the primary causes of death. From 1990s to 2000s, mortality caused by acute MI declined up to 50%. The incidence of CAD is related with age, gender, economic, etc.

State Key Laboratory for Bioactive Substances and Functions of Natural Medicines, Beijing Key Laboratory of New Drug Mechanisms and Pharmacological Evaluation Study, Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Xian Nong Tan Street 1, Xicheng District, Beijing, 100050, China.

Background: The 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) DNA modification is an epigenetic marker involved in a range of biological processes. Its function has been studied extensively in tumors, neurodegenerative diseases, and atherosclerosis. Studies have reported that 5hmC modification is closely related to the phenotype transformation of vascular smooth muscle cells and endothelial dysfunction.

Efficacy and safety of levothyroxine (L-T4) replacement on the exercise capability in chronic systolic heart failure patients with subclinical hypothyroidism: Study protocol for a multi-center, open label, randomized, parallel group trial (ThyroHeart-CHF).

Department of Cardiology, Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, 167 Beilishi Road, Xicheng District, Beijing, 100037, China.

Background: Subclinical hypothyroidism is a common condition in patients with heart failure and is defined as elevated serum thyroid hormone (TSH) with normal circulating free thyroxine (FT4). Evidence on the effect of thyroid hormone treatment is lacking. We designed a randomized controlled trial to compare the efficacy and safety of thyroid hormone supplementation in patients with chronic heart failure complicated with subclinical hypothyroidism.

Urinary metabonomic study of patients with acute coronary syndrome using UPLC-QTOF/MS.

J Chromatogr B Analyt Technol Biomed Life Sci

November 2018

Department of Chemistry, Capital Normal University, China. Electronic address:

This urinary metabonomic study aimed to identify the potential metabolic biomarkers in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS) was used to analyze the urine samples from ACS patients and healthy controls. Principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) were applied to characterizing the endogenous metabolites and potential biomarker, respectively.

The effect of dual antiplatelet therapy, clopidogrel combined with aspirin, was influenced by CYP2C19 gene mutation and heterogeneity of population. Related studies remained controversial and limited, especially in Chinese. Total 3295 unrelated ACS Chinese patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were recruited and followed up to 1 year.

Association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and subclinical atherosclerosis: a cross-sectional study on population over 40 years old.

Department of Internal Medicine, Coronary Heart Disease Center State, State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, No. 167 Beilishi Road, Beijing, 100037, China.

Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) refers to fatty infiltration of liver in the absence of excessive alcohol abuse. However, the problem that whether NAFLD is correlated with subclinical atherosclerosis assessed by carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (ba-PWV) remains a source of controversy. This can be attributed to the differences in diagnosis methods, population ethnicity, sampling size and bias.

Development and validation of Women Acute Myocardial Infarction in-Hospital Mortality Score (WAMI Score).

Department of Internal Medicine, Coronary Heart Disease Center, National Clinical Research Center of Cardiovascular Diseases, State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Background: A variety of risk models have been developed to predict acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in-hospital mortality risk. As a distinct, higher-risk population, women with AMI have different risk profiles from their men counterparts. Published researches have indicated that the interaction between variables in these models for in-hospital mortality and gender are significant.

Background: Patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention react differently to antiplatelet drugs. Those with low responsiveness to clopidogrel have a higher risk of cardiac ischemic events. The goal of this study is to conduct a head-to-head comparison of the safety and effectiveness of intensified antiplatelet therapies (either double-dose clopidogrel [DOUBLE] or adjunctive cilostazol [TRIPLE]) and conventional strategy (STANDARD) in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention.

Intravascular Ultrasound Guidance Improves the Long-term Prognosis in Patients with Unprotected Left Main Coronary Artery Disease Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

Sci Rep

May 2017

Department of Cardiology, Fu Wai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China.

This study compared the long term outcomes in patients with unprotected left main coronary artery (LMCA) disease who underwent stenting under the guidance of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) or conventional angiography at a large single center. The primary outcome was the composite of all-cause death and myocardial infarction (MI) at 3 years. Target vessel revascularization (TVR) at 3 years was one of the secondary outcomes.

Avoiding full corrections in dynamic SPECT images impacts the performance of SPECT myocardial blood flow quantitation.

J Nucl Cardiol

August 2017

Coronary Heart Disease Center, Fu Wai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, 167 Beilishi Road, Beijing, 100037, China.

Introduction: This study investigated the performance of SPECT myocardial blood flow (MBF) quantitation lacking full physical corrections (All Corr) in dynamic SPECT (DySPECT) images.

Methods: Eleven healthy normal volunteers (HVT) and twenty-four patients with angiography-documented CAD were assessed. All Corr in Tc-sestamibi DySPECT encompassed noise reduction (NR), resolution recovery (RR), and corrections for scatter (SC) and attenuation (AC), otherwise no correction (NC) or only partial corrections.
