Individuals working in the same organization can differ in terms of their appraisal of work-related stressors and coping strategies used to face them. While zero liquid discharge (ZLD) wetlands have been successfully used for domestic wastewater treatment, adapting this technology to treat other wastewaters such as leachate could be very attractive for some industries concerned with meeting increasingly stringent environmental regulations. Leachate treatment typically implies large volume of water that are entirely dependent on rainfall and therefore highly variable both throughout the year and between years. Current design guidelines for zero discharge willow systems limit system flexibility because they are based on rough theoretical estimates of evapotranspiration.

The evolution and development of human mortuary behaviors is of enormous cultural significance. Here we report a richly-decorated young infant burial (AVH-1) from Arma Veirana (Liguria, northwestern Italy) that is directly dated to 10,211-9910 cal BP (95.4% probability), placing it within the early Holocene and therefore attributable to the early Mesolithic, a cultural period from which well-documented burials are exceedingly rare.

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) recapitulates metastasis and can be induced in vitro through transforming growth factor (TGF)-β signaling. A role for MMP activity in glioblastoma multiforme has been ascribed to EMT, but the molecular crosstalk between TGF-β signaling and membrane type 1 MMP (MT1-MMP) remains poorly understood. In urban areas served by separate sewerage systems, illicit connections to the storm drain system from residences or commercial establishments are frequent whether these misconnections were made accidentally or deliberately. As a result, untreated and contaminated wastewater enters into storm sewers leading to pollution of receiving waters and non-compliance with water quality standards. Typical procedures for detecting illicit connections to the storm sewer system are time consuming and expensive, especially in a highly urbanised area.

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is currently the only non-invasive method allowing for continuous long-term assessment of cerebral hemodynamic. We evaluate the feasibility of using continueous electroencephalgraphy (cEEG)-fNIRS to study the cortical hemodynamic associated with status epilepticus (SE), burst suppression (BS) and periodic discharges (PDs). Plasmonic nanostructures have raised the interest of biomedical applications of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). To improve the enhancement and produce sensitive SERS probes, porous Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles (NPs) are synthesized by dealloying Au-Ag alloy NP-precursors with Au or Ag core in aqueous colloidal environment through galvanic replacement reaction. The novel designed core-shell Au-Ag alloy NP-precursors facilitate controllable synthesis of porous nanostructure, and dealloying degree during the reaction has significant effect on structural and spectral properties of dealloyed porous NPs.

In the case of alien species, the lack of long-term data and their rapid spread challenges their study and require appropriate new management strategies to cope with them.

Application of transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) is thought to modulate ongoing brain oscillations in a frequency-dependent manner. However, recent studies report various and sometimes inconsistent results regarding its capacity to induce changes in cortical activity beyond the stimulation period. Background: Vegetation phenology research has largely focused on temperate deciduous forests, thus limiting our understanding of the response of evergreen vegetation to climate change in tropical and subtropical regions.

Results: Using satellite solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) and MODIS enhanced vegetation index (EVI) data, we applied two methods to evaluate temporal and spatial patterns of the end of the growing season (EGS) in subtropical vegetation in China, and analyze the dependence of EGS on preseason maximum and minimum temperatures as well as cumulative precipitation. Our results indicated that the averaged EGS derived from the SIF and EVI based on the two methods (dynamic threshold method and derivative method) was later than that derived from gross primary productivity (GPP) based on the eddy covariance technique, and the time-lag for EGS and EGS was approximately 2 weeks and 4 weeks, respectively.

The interaction effects of organic ligand ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA) and oxide nanoparticles (magnetite FeO-NPs and copper CuO-NPs) were investigated during a 72 h period on two green algal species- under freshwater conditions and under saltwater conditions. FeO-NPs had larger agglomerates and very low solubility. CuO-NPs, having smaller agglomerates and higher solubility, were more toxic than FeO-NPs in freshwater conditions for similar mass-based concentrations, especially at 72 h under 100 mg L.
