Aims: Few population-based studies have investigated the association between insulin resistance and atherosclerotic burden in intra- and extra-cranial arteries. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between insulin resistance and intra- and extra-cranial atherosclerotic burden in community-based nondiabetic participants.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional analysis from a population-based prospective cohort-PolyvasculaR Evaluation for Cognitive Impairment and vaScular Events (PRECISE) study in China.

The two-signal model of T cell activation has helped shape our understanding of the adaptive immune response for over four decades. According to the model, activation of T cells requires a stimulus through the T cell receptor/CD3 complex (signal 1) and a costimulatory signal 2. Stimulation of activatory signals via T cell agonists has thus emerged.

Introduction: Symptom monitoring and alerting based on patient-reported outcomes have proven valuable in a postoperative setting. However, the parameters of the implemented patient-centred symptom management system for patients with prostate cancer (PC) remain unclear. This study aims to develop a perioperative symptom scale (PSS) to monitor symptoms, determine the appropriate timing for symptom assessment and establish intervention criteria for physicians.

Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of transepithelial corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) for management of corneal ectasia after laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).
Methods: CXL was performed on 18 eyes of 16 patients either with LASIK flap lift (n = 9; 365 nm, 30 mW/cm, 4 minutes, pulse) or with transepithelial flap-on (n = 9 eyes; 365 nm, 3 mW/cm, 30 minutes) technique. Postoperative change in maximum keratometry (Kmax), anterior elevation, posterior elevation, spherical equivalent (SE), logMAR uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), aberrations, and central corneal thickness (CCT) were evaluated at 12 months postoperatively.

The development of new antitumor drugs depends mainly upon targeting tumor cells precisely. Trophoblast surface antigen 2 (Trop-2) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein involved in Ca signaling in tumor cells. It is highly expressed in various tumor tissues than in normal tissues and represents a novel and promising molecular target for caner targeted therapy.

Background And Aims: Due to the ageing global population, calcified aortic valve disease is currently the most common cardiac valve disorder. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and the risk factors for calcified aortic valve stenosis (CAVS), and develop a prediction model for predicting CAVS risk.
Methods And Results: This study was derived from the cross-sectional baseline survey of the PRECISE study (NCT03178448).

Doxorubicin (DOX), a broad-spectrum chemotherapeutic agent for various cancers, has limited clinical application because of its serious cardiotoxicity, which is due to different mechanisms, including cardiac ferroptosis and oxidative stress. Some drugs, such as berberine or dioscin, show efficacy in impeding DOX-induced cardiotoxicity by activating Sirtuin 1 (Sirt1). However, there is no direct evidence to clarify the role of Sirt1 in DOX-induced cardiomyopathy and its underlying role in cardiac ferroptosis.

β-2 microglobulin, a light chain in the major histocompatibility complex Class 1 molecule, is associated with mortality in dialysis or uremic patients. Current evidence on the relationship between beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) and mortality in the general and non-chronic kidney disease (CKD) population are limited and controversial. Data from the nutrition and health examination survey database and the nutrition and health examination survey linked mortality file were used.

Rationale: Very-high-risk prostate cancer (PCa) is associated with poor prognosis. Radical prostatectomy (RP) is an option for selected high-risk PCa cases, especially in younger, healthier patients. However, a high Gleason score and high T stage can increase the risk of RP.

Background And Aims: Visceral adiposity index (VAI) and lipid accumulation product (LAP), as anthropometric indices, have been applied to predict the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, few studies investigated the correlation between these two indicators and cardio-cerebro-vascular atherosclerosis in community populations. Our study was to explore the association of VAI and LAP with coronary, intracranial and extracranial atherosclerosis in a community-based asymptomatic middle-aged and older population.

Background: Nuclear receptor binding protein 1 (NRBP1) and ATP-binding cassette subfamily G member 2 (ABCG2) was the gout risk gene and high-capacity urate exporter respectively. However, the relationship between NRBP1 and ABCG2 and the underlying molecular mechanism contributing to these associations are unknown.
Methods: Firstly, the efficiency of the overexpression and knockdown of NRBP1 was confirmed by western blot.

In this paper, the MRI manifestations of 15 patients with benzene toxic encephalopathy were analyzed, and the lesion location, shape, scope and signal were observed. The clinical manifestations of 15 patients were mainly central nervous system damage, and the MRI manifestations were characteristic, with a wide range of lesions, and the shapes were "sunflower-like", "flame-like", "bracket-like" and "butterfly-like", and the MRI signal was sheet-like long T(1), long T(2), fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequence and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) high signal, apparent diffusion coeffecient (ADC) map low, equal or high signals. When the patient's diagnosis is unclear, MRI examination may provide clinical basis for diagnosis.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is predominant among all types of primary liver cancers characterised by high morbidity and mortality. Genes in the mediator complex (MED) family are engaged in the tumour-immune microenvironment and function as regulatory hubs mediating carcinogenesis and progression across diverse cancer types. Whereas research studies have been conducted to examine the mechanisms in several cancers, studies that systematically focused on the therapeutic and prognostic values of MED in patients with HCC are limited.
