Molecular profiling of biliary tract cancers reveals distinct genomic landscapes between circulating and tissue tumor DNA.

Exp Hematol Oncol

January 2024

ERC Chromatin Remodeling, DNA Repair and Epigenetics Laboratory, INSERM U981, Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France.

Biliary tract cancers (BTCs) are heterogeneous malignancies with dismal prognosis due to tumor aggressiveness and poor response to limited current therapeutic options. Tumor exome profiling has allowed to successfully establish targeted therapeutic strategies in the clinical management of cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Still, whether liquid biopsy profiling could inform on BTC biology and patient management is unknown.

Skin toxicities are very common in patients undergoing cancer treatment and have been found to occur with all types of cancer therapeutic interventions (cytotoxic chemotherapy, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy). Further, skin toxicities can lead to interruption or even discontinuation of anticancer treatment in some patients, translating to suboptimal outcomes. Dermocosmetics (or cosmeceuticals)-defined as skincare solutions incorporating dermatologically active ingredients (beyond vehicle effects) that directly improve symptoms of various skin conditions-are increasingly being used in cancer care to prevent and manage skin toxicities.

Enhanced resonance energy transfer in gold nanoparticles bifunctionalized by tryptophan and riboflavin and its application in fluorescence bioimaging.

Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces

July 2023

University of Belgrade, "VINČA" Institute of Nuclear Sciences - National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, Center of Excellence for Photoconversion, PO Box 522, Belgrade 11001, Serbia. Electronic address:

Gold nanoparticles were functionalized by amino acid tryptophan and vitamin riboflavin - a resonance energy transfer (RET) pair of biomolecules. The presence of the gold nanoparticles resulted in 65% increase in RET efficiency. Because of enhanced RET efficiency, the photobleaching dynamics of the fluorescent molecules at the surface of the nanoparticles is different from that of molecules in solution.

Survivors of childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer, previously treated with anthracycline chemotherapy (including mitoxantrone) or radiotherapy in which the heart was exposed, are at increased risk of cardiomyopathy. Symptomatic cardiomyopathy is typically preceded by a series of gradually progressive, asymptomatic changes in structure and function of the heart that can be ameliorated with treatment, prompting specialist organisations to endorse guidelines on cardiac surveillance in at-risk survivors of cancer. In 2015, the International Late Effects of Childhood Cancer Guideline Harmonization Group compiled these guidelines into a uniform set of recommendations applicable to a broad spectrum of clinical environments with varying resource availabilities.

(1) Background: Healthcare workers are highly affected by work-related musculoskeletal disorders, particularly in the lower back, neck and shoulders, as their occupational tasks expose them to biomechanical constraints. One solution to prevent these musculoskeletal disorders may be the use of a passive exoskeleton as it aims to reduce muscle solicitation. However, few studies have been carried out directly in this field to assess the impact of the use of a passive upper limb exoskeleton on this population.

Diffraction instruments using filtering by one or several analyser crystals exist since the 1980s and 1990s at synchrotron radiation sources, but, due to its low efficiency, this filtering is little used on laboratory sources. In order to overcome this limitation, the efficiency of a small diffraction filtering multi-analyzer block (MAD block) realized with a `single-crystal-comb' curved on a rigid support is demonstrated here. The geometry of this curved surface is logarithmic spiral and is optimized to allow multi-filtering over a relatively important diffraction angular range and to be also applicable over an X-ray spectral range.

Unlabelled: Arterial calcification is a common feature of pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE), a disease characterized by mutations, inducing a deficiency in pyrophosphate, a key inhibitor of calcium phosphate crystallization in arteries.

Methods: we analyzed whether long-term exposure of Abcc6 mice (a murine model of PXE) to a mild vitamin D supplementation, with or without calcium, would impact the development of vascular calcification. Eight groups of mice (including Abcc6 and wild-type) received vitamin D supplementation every 2 weeks, a calcium-enriched diet alone (calcium in drinking water), both vitamin D supplementation and calcium-enriched diet, or a standard diet (controls) for 6 months.

Endocrine disorders in survivors of childhood, adolescent, and young adult (CAYA) cancers are associated with substantial adverse physical and psychosocial effects. To improve appropriate and timely endocrine screening and referral to a specialist, the International Late Effects of Childhood Cancer Guideline Harmonization Group (IGHG) aims to develop evidence and expert consensus-based guidelines for healthcare providers that harmonize recommendations for surveillance of endocrine disorders in CAYA cancer survivors. Existing IGHG surveillance recommendations for premature ovarian insufficiency, gonadotoxicity in males, fertility preservation, and thyroid cancer are summarized.

Bone mineral density surveillance for childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer survivors: evidence-based recommendations from the International Late Effects of Childhood Cancer Guideline Harmonization Group.

Lancet Diabetes Endocrinol

September 2021

Department of Neuroscience, Rehabilitation, Ophthalmology, Genetics, Maternal and Child Health, University of Genova, Italy and Department of Pediatrics, IRCCS Istituto Giannina Gaslini, Genova, Italy.

Childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer survivors are at increased risk of reduced bone mineral density. Clinical practice surveillance guidelines are important for timely diagnosis and treatment of these survivors, which could improve bone mineral density parameters and prevent fragility fractures. Discordances across current late effects guidelines necessitated international harmonisation of recommendations for bone mineral density surveillance.

Joint Bone Spine

July 2021

Inserm 1227, LabEx IGO, rhumatologie, centre de référence maladies rares CERAINO, université de Bretagne Occidentale, CHU de Brest, 29200 Brest, France. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to analyze how common and important skin disorders are in patients with primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS) using data from two different French cohorts and a clinical trial on treatment effectiveness.
  • - Results showed that skin issues, particularly those recorded in the disease activity index (ESSDAI), were uncommon but linked to other disease activities like neurological and muscular problems. In patients who had skin assessments, there was a higher rate of dermatological issues compared to those who didn't.
  • - The findings emphasized that while specific skin manifestations are rare, skin dryness is quite prevalent and correlates with increased pain and dryness scores in patients, highlighting the need for dermatological evaluations.
