Hypothesis: We hypothesized that arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs using leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) in a standardized, modified protocol is technically feasible and results in a higher vascularization response and watertight healing rate during early healing.
Methods: Twenty patients with chronic rotator cuff tears were randomly assigned to 2 treatment groups. In the test group (N = 10), L-PRF was added in between the tendon and the bone during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

Contributory factors to HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) have been shown to include age, co-morbid infections, medication toxicity, virological, genetic and vascular mechanisms, as well as microbial translocation of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which is suspected to trigger monocyte activation and increase trafficking of infected cells into the brain. In this study, our aim was to assess the degree of neurocognitive impairment in a group of randomly selected HIV-infected patients and investigate potential risk factors, including LPS plasma levels. Furthermore, we evaluated the relevance of LPS as a potential marker for screening patients with mild neurocognitive impairment.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The hypothesis of this study was that the rate of recurrence of anterior instability of the shoulder after arthroscopic Bankart repair with suture anchors is higher than after coracoid bone block (Latarjet procedure).
Materials And Methods: This continuous retrospective monocentric study included a cohort of patients who underwent surgery for post-traumatic recurrent antero-inferior instability (2004-2005): 51 patients who underwent an open Latarjet procedure were paired for age at surgery to 51 patients who underwent an arthroscopic Bankart repair. All patients were evaluated with a questionnaire and 50% were evaluated in a follow-up consultation with X-rays.

Background: Advantages of one-stage bilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA) include a single hospital stay, a shorter rehabilitation time, and decreased management costs per patient. However, concern about a possible increase in the perioperative complication rate has limited the use of this strategy. Here, our objectives were to evaluate morbidity and mortality, as well as functional outcomes, in patients managed with one-stage bilateral THA.

Background: Recent observational studies suggest a role for lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as a marker of immune activation in HIV-infected patients, with potential repercussions on the effectiveness of antiretroviral regimens.
Object: A systematic review of LPS as a marker of immune activation in HIV-1 infected patients.

Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is one of the most common types of non-AIDS-defining tumors in the HIV-infected. Its incidence however seems to have increased under highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART). HIV-HL is a different entity from HL in HIV-negative subjects with a poorer prognosis that is associated with tumor-subtype, EBV-infection, and "B" symptoms.

Background/purpose: Isolated tubal torsion associated with hydrosalpinx is a rare pathology. Our goal was to analyze the clinical and imaging features and discuss the different treatment options available.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all the cases of adnexal torsion treated in our department of pediatric surgery over a 10-year period.

Purpose: We described a novel all-arthroscopic technique of coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction and reported the early clinical and radiologic results of this procedure.
Methods: We performed all-arthroscopic coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction in 10 consecutive patients (8 men and 2 women; mean age, 41 years) with a symptomatic chronic and complete acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocation (Rockwood type III or IV). Four patients had undergone surgery previously: two had initial pinning of the acute AC joint separation, and two had a subsequent Mumford procedure.

Abdominal tuberculosis is a rare disease. Involvement of lymph nodes at the hepatic hilum responsible for jaundice is exceptional. We describe a 59-year-old woman in whom jaundice was the presenting feature, complicated by portal vein thrombosis and portal hypertension.

The mechanism by which calcium-depleted intracellular stores may trigger an external calcium influx through a calcium release-activated channel was investigated by analyzing the effects of several protein tyrosine kinase inhibitors on calcium movements in Jurkat T cells. Tyrphostin A9, an inhibitor of the kinase activity of the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) receptor, dramatically impaired the sustained elevation of cytosolic calcium concentration, induced by either CD3 mAbs, thapsigargin, ionomycin at low (10(-7) M) concentration, or passive depletion of intracellular stores; other tested tyrphostins, lavendustin, genistein, and compound 5 lacked significant effect. Tyrphostin A9, added during the plateau phase, was able to return cytosolic calcium to resting concentration.

The pharmacokinetics of ciprofloxacin were examined after five days of treatment with 500 mg orally and 200 mg intravenously twice a day, in six healthy volunteers in an open, randomized crossover study. The ciprofloxacin concentrations were determined in serum by high performance liquid chromatography. The mean serum peak concentrations were obtained in 1 to 1.
